It's not really hard, it gets a bit infuriating with the difficulty spikes though. Basically just try to explore other areas when you can't beat a fight that's in your way.

What should I do? I played until I was at the very end of chapter 2 two months ago, but now I dont remember shit about the game, the digimons I was trying to recruit or how the shit at the village worked. Is it better to start a new game or play until I get into it again.

Chapter 2 is not too far in so you could just start over, it's not like you lose anything though. There's a pink fluffball in jijimons house that tells you about digimon you can recruit so even if you don't remember where certain digimons are the guy will tell you which ones you can recruit.

Digimon are lifeforms that are made out of data, go under multiple crazy metamorphosis depending on how they are raised, and are basically hollow since they don't have internal organs. Even the most humanoid is still a monster.
