With Taro Yoko it feels like he actually does have a plan and a purpose with his writing and tends to keep it short and to the point even if the point isn't always necessarily all that interesting. It's just again his sort of material is such well-treaded ground by Japanese pop culture stuff particularly in the 2010's it's kind of dulled in terms of impact for me now. am i the only one a little disappointed about the ending sequence? You see the huge tower come out of the ground, its suppose to be this goal off in the distance that you need to get to, the network throws everything at you to try to stop you from getting higher. You start to notice parallels with drakengard, and then, nothing. There is no reveal at the top, just 9s and a2 confronting one another when they could have done it anywhere. I know one of the themes of the game is pointlessness but it seemed like the tower was a waste of time. The only "twist" was the network changed its mind but they obviously didn't the the fight on the way up.

So there are like 12 other bunkers, and the bunker we're part of is the 'YORHA' project bunker, and the moon is just a server ran by replicants/androids faking human signals to give androids something to fight for.

And N2 hacked into the entire thing long ago but kept kept up the war charade because MUHH EVOLUTION.

And the Yorha project was designed to DELETE and re-start with a newer iteration of androids.

So the machines and the Yorha project is just self-perpetuating war for the sake of MUHH EVOLUTION.

Finished the game yesterday and would like clarification on a few things.

Why is 2B referred to as having killed 9S multiple times?

What is the Gestalt project? It came off as some AI project that got too big to handle, and then setting in motion all of the games events.

What actually happens in the ending? The AI girls start fighting each other and then just vanish from the rest of the ending sequence. A2 brings the tower down with some ex machina shit and that's supposed to be the end of it? In the 9S version they talk about some collective consciousness that will go somewhere else, but it's really vague.

Why didn't A2 try to clear up the 2B misunderstanding with 9S? This seriously seemed like an extremely cringy and tired anime plot trope which really broke my suspension of disbelief.
I have a hard time believing she made herself the antagonist towards 9S for no reason when there still was a common enemy.

There are other neat bits of context you can miss if you never played through the original Nier. For example, a certain pair of red-headed twin androids were instrumental in the colossal fuck-up of Project Gestalt and the subsequent dooming of humanity.

Their failure was so complete that all units of their model series were viewed with scorn, hatred and persecution by the other androids. The Devola/Popola units in Automata had their memories wiped and were reprogrammed to feel constant guilt and a need to atone for the sins of the original pair.

Some of this is explained in the VN sections, but the experience isn't quite the same without having played the previous game. I remember watching streamers who had played through the original Nier viewing Dev/Pop with intense suspicion when they ran into them in Automata.
