Depends.
Some games, mods or projects that tend to tribute their series can be alright, if they're well done.
I like those who prefer to acknowledge the history of a series to the point they even hit the most obscure parts.

Pokemon Uranium is trash.
Lecarde Chronicles 1 & 2 as well as AM2R are fantastic
Earthbound 4 is vaporware and looks like Tumblrshit

I've only played Streets of Rage Remake, The Dark Mod, and AM2R and love them all, each being in the top of their respective genres.

I played Pokemon Brown a year back, was actually pretty damn good and quite a step up for a gbc game.
Never got to try Prism though, anyone know if its good?

I'm playing throug Lecarde Chronicle 1. It's fucking amazing and I plan on doing the neitre classicevania serie (except rondo of blood because I already cleared it)

And then I'll play Lecarde 2 and replay the metroidvania.

LISA the pointless was also fantastic.
