Is Fuka or Artina the heroine in 4? Fuka got way more screen time and she's directly related to the plot, moreso than Artina's loose connection to the true villain.

after 1's "turning SRPG on its head" story and its 2's more romance fueled plot, 3 was bad in story, characters weren't too bad though champloo saved the english dub and at that point i was sick of hearing fucking Vic doing voices because FMA was still popular as fuck

I want a game that only features different variations of Asagi as every single character in it. From Generics to the Main Cast, even shopkeepers and everything in between.
With the final boss being something like Dark Asagi, the culmination of Asagi's self conscious thoughts that she might not get to be an MC.
The twist is that you weren't the real Asagi the whole time like you thought, and True Asagi emerges at the end for the True Final Boss battle.
Only for her to realise even in a world of only Asagi's she's still not able to be the heroine.

Cue sad credits song as she wanders off on an endless journey to find her own game.

ASAGI GO FIGHTO!

Alright so I was planning on playing the Disgaea games in order before I get to Disgaea 5, but I'm kinda jumping around between the first 3 games. I got to chapter 6 in the first one before I went on to 2 and 3. It seems like the games get easier as they go on. I'm playing 3 the most right now since it's the easiest, but I want to go back to 1 and especially 2 before I beat it. Are 4 and 5 even easier than 3? How would they compare to 1? Also D2 is off the table since I don't have a PS3 anymore.

Depends. It's a good game, especially for portable, but you'll "suffer" if you play it first from the problem of the rest of the games feeling like a large step back the further back you go because of all of the QOL changes that have accumulated throughout the series.

It's quite easy to try out the earlier games nowadays too, so you might as well dip a toe in there to see if it's your speed before committing.

Disgaea 1 was a fun wacky Trpg based on grinding ( can level up to 9999 ) with an over the top anime style gameplay, a light story with some serious undertone and great characters.

Then each new game in the serie added more to the gameplay but without leaving its confort zone.

Disgaea 1 was exceptional.
Disgaea 2 was good
Disgaea 3 was shit.
Disgaea 4 was shit.
Disgaea D2 was shit + fuck you to the fans of the first .
Disgaea 5 is good again.

It's FE without the RNG, permadeath, weapon degradation, lv.20 cap, and replaces all of the boring parts of FE with a ton of options in terms of unit customization, weapon classes, classes in general, cooler specials as well as tons and tons of freedom in how you approach and take on challenges.
The game both expects and encourages you to abuse the system as you see fit, even if it means using units as sacrificial bait, suicide bombers, stepping stools, whatever. There's even a Cheat Shop where you can mess with the amount of EXP or money you get in case you have too much or too little of either, as well as boosting the enemy levels if you think you're too strong.
With the wealth of freedom you'd think you could just steamroll the game, but everything you can do, the AI can do as well. I played 5 for the first time and just when I was like "okay, I think I can get through this chapter without any issues," the game pushes back with a new challenge and pushed my shit sideways, and this happened like 6 times.

"FE but with gimmicks" is the worst way to describe Disgaea I've ever heard, if anything, FE feels incredibly barebones when put next to Disgaea. I stopped playing FE:A after about maybe 50-60 hours because I didn't feel like grinding for Piram, and I'm 90 hours in D5 and just finished the 'postgame' only to find out there's even more postgame past this.
On top of that D5's portablility is a dream come true, it was the quintessential handheld series on the PSP/Vita and that still holds true on the Switch.

Well you know what they say, don't judge a book by its cover and I did just that. Those were my impressions at first glance and only seeing parts of a few trailers.
You guys have definitely convinced me because I do like grinding characters in RPGs to the point where the game is a pushover, so it's nice to hear that you can do that and the game will still give you challenges. I also like lots of content and I've heard it takes something like 80 hours to complete the main story.
I'm off to play the demo now. If I like it after half an hour or so, should I stop playing and buy the game or continue through the demo? Do you get anything from the demo that carries over to the main game?

The demo save doesn't transfer for some reason, but it goes through the first chapter, which should hopefully give you an idea of what the game is about. If you don't like the dubbing, just remember you can change the voice to Japanese in the full game.
