Explains my brother's situation. He is legitimately mentally ill, got into a fight with some homeless shitters ( being a homeless shitter himself ) and used a machete to defend himself.

Well, even though it seemed pretty obvious he defended himself, he still got shipped off to prison, and it took them over a year to figure out he is actually mentally ill, and treating him like shit for trying to get help was not helpful.

Thankfully, he's been sent to a prison focused exclusively on mentally ill convicts now, so it's better for him.

Half life 2 and Doom 3 were revolutionary in 2004 with HL2 making everyone install DRM Steam and having it take off big time.

Meanwhile in the mainstream Call if Duty and Halo were growing popular until a sort of climax in 07 with Halo 3 and CoD4 reaching it's peak in popularity and quality.

Grand Theft Auto continued on to success with Vice City, San Andreas, 4 and, 5. Plus countless spin offs

Sonic died in 2006 with the reboot, we still mourn him to this day

Also in 2007 Crysis made everyone's PC seem insignificant with a more open ended approach to taking on encounters. It was actually panned for being so demanding. It's still fun though.

Cult classic Stalker came out and proved that Russians can't make a stable game. It's since been mostly fixed and has a very active mod community that makes the game even better.

Bethesda released Oblivion and Fallout 3. 2 broken mediocre clones that are more accessible to normies but have no real depth and light on RPG elements and story.
People say the Obsidian spin-off New Vegas is a good game but buggy and plagued with issues that were in Fallout 3 but less prominent/worked around

However all games have a shit ton of mods people use to fix it's brokeness
