The story is okay, though extremely generic, but holy shit, this is the least amount of fun I've had playing through an FE game, the maps are just tedious, not hard.

It's in the middle of the series. Not great, but not bad. The plot is better than a lot of previous games but at the same time the gameplay isn't nearly as good. Worth a pirate at least but don't really expect anything major. The DLC is complete bullshit however, don't pay IS and Nintendo a cent for it

SoV is a very strict remake, it doesn't try to fix a lot of errors with Gaiden. That's good in that it preserves that classic Fire Emblem feel, but it's bad because Gaiden was a very flawed game. You'll see some similarities to PoR and BB in gameplay, but Gaiden is the odd fish of the series that tries different things. There's no weapons triangle in this, and the maps are the biggest criticism, but the story is very reminiscent of the type you see in both games you mentioned.

SoV is different from the FE norm because it tries to be like a JRPG. Conquest is a post-Awakening game close to the traditional style so you should try that if you want something like the older titles.

As someone who hates Gaiden: I love it. It's one of my favorite FEs. I thought the empty maps of Gaiden was gonna make me hate Echoes, but really, it works well here. Also, the plot is pretty good

The only improvements are to character designs (which are amazing), the OST, and the story. The gameplay is more or less left intact. I think some units are made better than they were in the orginal game.

It's a good game anon. As somebody who started with 7 and 8, it reminded me a lot of them, and has great production values.
