Why arent there more rpg´s with non throwaway main npcs like in gothic?

I really liked how the npc´s are experienced with you the story.

I also really like the world level design and how all the settlements have a real sense of place.

There should be more rpg´s with smaller but more detailed worlds that are effectivly used over the course of the game.

Its also nice that the game dosent shower you in loot. Every weapon and especially every new armor feels like a big step of progression.

The biggest strategy is just to mash light attack twice, backhop, and repeat. A large majority of the enemies follow this mentality, and it never truly evolves into anything more meaningful. Why does Djikstra have the same moveset as a wild hunt warrior you fight with Keira?
The game even reskins and recycles enemies in paid DLC, and then dares to call them new ones with new beastiry entries.

I can kinda understand why some people would dislike it at first.
It takes some getting used to.

I disliked it when I played the demo way back,
but when the final game came out and I got used to the controls after like 10 minutes it completely sucked me in. The controls actually become very fluid. Just keep in mind that your moveset improves when you level your combat skill.

Start with the first game though.
It's has a better premise and atmosphere than the second and the sequel is going to feel much better when you know some of the characters and locations.

Orcs are high level enemies in that series. Even "wounded" Orc is a tough opponent for a guy with a club and in torn pants. The quest is completely optional IIRC. It is required if you want to be blacksmith apprenice. But you can become a hunter or alchemist instead.

AND bought. I'm a sucker for when small stuff changes as you get stronger. Also was a big whore for equipment that reflected on your avatar, which was amazing for me back then since before Morrowind, I mainly played JRPGs.

I liked Gothic 3 without that shitty expansion and Risen 1 better for some reason. Could never put my finger on why. I think Gothic 2 just had a really dull start that took forever to get going. It didn't help that I went from Gothic 1 straight to 2 and it had to start from being a weakass all over again.
