Well yeah it's a fucking FPS. TF2 isn't complex either, that's why it sold so fucking well and why they chose it to go F2P. There's nothing difficult about pointing and shooting as Heavy, or sticking on the cart as Scout, or building a Sentry and keeping it alive; the difficulty comes from your positioning, rollouts, map knowledge and communicating with your team. Besides Soldier's maneuverability, it's pretty simple stuff.

Overwatch is the same shit, it just requires you to think about ults, counterpicks, map design, and ability usage.

TF2 is a high level competitive shooter in the same way that Smash is a high level competitive fighting game. Sure the game has the fundamentals of the betters that they draw from, but what people call mechanical depth is merely mechanical complexity. What people try to get from TF2 while playing at their peak is, for the most part, only a shadow of pretty much any arena shooter. Might as well go back to the source and play Quake.
