I too think Majora's Mask is highly overrated.

To me, the best part of Zelda are the dungeons and MM's hast he least amount. Only the last dungeon is truly stellar too.

I really don't give a fuck about the boring npcs and their side quests. Having them tied to specific parts of the day is meh. It requires waiting around a lot.

Having to repeatedly go back in time to redo things is not fun either.

Constantly be timed while you play is stressful. Even though you have plenty of time when you use the song to slow down the flow of time, I still don't like being timed. I want to explore and fuck around at my leisure.

I agree that the Goron and Zora controls are ass and the majority of the masks in the game are useless. There's only a handful of useful ones.

I, too, make sure to platinum and 100% every game I dislike, just to see what the "fuss is about". That includes all optional content, obviously, i.e. content that is absolutely required to play, especially if I don't want to waste any more time playing this game.

I actually really liked the transformed Link controls. Swimming was pretty easy as a zora, and rolling around as a goron was very satisfying. My only complaint would be that fighting as a goron was a bit of a hassle.

And anyway, it's all a matter of taste, but I liked the game's weird aesthetic, themes, and subplots. For me, the fact that MM felt more like a complete and well-developed world was a big advantage it had over OoT. But that's just the sort of thing I enjoy in games.

I finished OoT in about 20-25 hours or so. The game was pretty obviously one of the devs' first forays into 3d and it shows. Much of the dungeon design is awful.

MM took me about 50 hours and I didn't do the majority of the minigames because they didn't seem worth it. Then again you'll probably call me a filthy casual since I think rather highly of games like PH and ST. For the record, my ranking of the 3d Zelda, so that you can simply discount my opinion: BotW > TP > MM > WW > OoT. Haven't finished SS yet.

I haven't played the 3DS port, but I do know th animations are fucked in them.

The original animations of OoT and MM were made with their low FPS in mind, 22-24 or whatever, while the 3D versions have it at a higher frame rate. What they did when porting this, was to just speed up the animations and it looks fucking horrible in motion. Looks quite half assed and a lazy job by Nintendo for some of the best games of the N64.

Also why calling this a remake is a wrong concept, they use the same engine and speedrunners found the same glitches in the updated ports, they just changed visuals a lot.

I feel like a lot of the changes in the 3ds version were to address many of the more frustrating aspects of the game, such as the waiting around for time to pass to finish side quests or the ability to save without going back in time.

That doesn't excuse other changes like the boss battles or swimming, of course.

I love Majora's Mask because it has the most lively world of any Zelda game. Almost every NPC has a schedule and a interesting side quest to give. I found it fun and its my favorite Zelda game.
