That's not what a demo is supposed to be and that is also not what I implied what it should be.

Ever heard of the minimum viable product? That's when you strip a product (game in this case) of all fluff and features until you got only the barebones and if that's fun/enjoyable then you can start adding features.

Rhe minimum viable product for SMB would be a flat level with a few pits. If jump'n'running through those is already engaging you can start adding enemies, upgrades, pipes and other obstacles.

With NA the minimum viable product would be the 3D action combat. (Otherwise you could go make an anime series) and the demo gives a taste of that and it sucks.

I played the demo and doing it with the heavy sword made her do a whole lot more movement and slashes than I pressed buttons.
I tried mixing up heavy and light attacks and tried to see when you can chain which together and found out that the spectacular heavy combo she does is a locked animation triggered by pressing heavy attack twice. this already set me off by a lot.
The boring tin can enemies weren't particularly interesting either as was the level design. The only cool thing was the demos boss fight and the bullet hell segments.

I build up this huge libary and never touch half of it.
The same thing also occurs with purchased games at times, I have copies of tales of vespiria, vanquish and other purchased games I haven't touched and the same goes for my pirated stuff.

On /v/ you usually see pirates complaining the most about games, I personally think it's because pirating allows you to have everything available to you so it all gets boring.
It's not even that the game is inherently bad, but maybe they just seek a constant change of gameplay,ost,artstyle,etc.

Not really, >>378847851 is right. Route A felt very shallow and like a disappointment to all my expectations of what the game was going to be, based on my playthrough of Nier 1 earlier this year. What I forgot to expect was that the other playthroughs adding a lot of the context and depth to your experience, by layering them together to form one cohesive web of intricacies, which are created by just thinking about what the fuck just happened, and why.
The game gives you enough clues and breadcrumbs to follow that it really entices the player to think, and not a lot of gamers are used to that anymore. I could go at length about this, but in short, during a recent visit back to older games, like Thief 1 and 2, I realized how pampered I had become because of the extreme handholding in modern games. It's all the same drivel, they follow what's trendy and what generates the most profits, altering the formula is forbidden.
I think this game is a ball out of left field for most people, simply because it asks people to think beyond the events in the game, and most people haven't used that muscle inside their brain in a long time, if they ever did. Maybe it's the unconventional style, with its multiple playthroughs required to know what the fuck is happening, or its meta 4th wall breaks and self realizations. I enjoyed the game, so either way it doesn't matter to me.

It's not where it comes from, or what form it takes, it's the experience you had with it and the meaning it has to you. It's what adds a little spice to life, being able to derive meaning and wisdom from the world around you and the creations from others. Art to me is just that, allowing the onlooker to become the observer and eventually the participant by thinking about the intentions behind the brush strokes or written passages that make the script.
It's all a fantastic game we all are playing, and it is fascinating thinking about all the possible moves to make, how to make them and why I did. Seeing that in other people and things has allowed me to get through a lot of bad times in my life, but I'm just glad I was born with this as my perception of reality. I mean, have any of you ever found a piece of the answer to your life by just looking and toying around with a paperclip between your fingers? That's a rhetorical question, the answer doesn't matter, because this is what allows me to keep going and to keep getting stronger.

I enjoyed the existentialism themes in Automata, even if they game didn't go deep with them and just had some elements here and there. It had some nice contrasts, the androids vs the robots, how 2B and 9S deal with the emotions issue, cool shit. There's also this conspiracy undertone, you not being really sure what goes on behind the scenes, who's pulling the strings, which I find quite appealing.

Gameplay is pretty good, good variety of enemies with satisfying combat. Music is pretty good too. I went in jaded by how people praised some other games here that recently came out and got pleasantly surprised by Nier Automata.
