>be me
>could not muster the will to play any game after 20+ hours

then this game came along. I've finished the witcher contracts, secondary and main questlines and downloading the expansions right now. How the fuck did they do it /v/? How did they keep the game interesting from start to finish?
>>
but it was boring as fuck

Because it's the best game to come out since Red Dead Redemption. Very immesrsive. Half decent main story with some gangster ass side missions.

Because its like a good skyrim.
Actualy fun quests, cool characters, very nice voice acting etc.

It also really helps that there are a fucklot of witcher books so they have a very deep world to work with.
>>
>>378843140
I'm actually downloading it rn, haven't played it. What exactly am I in for? I already know its a lot of dialogue, besides that.
>>

They created a game easy and saturated enough to cater to the idiotic, ADHD, teen and manchild populace of this board.

By having pride and care in their work and aiming for the top, literally the opposite of Bioware.

i also did everything except the gwent (no game will make me play card games lol)
last time i had this much fun with a game was with my first year of wow
lets hope we'll get another masterpiece in the next decade
>>
>>378843140
What made this game great for me was that even the mundane quests have something that makes them interesting. Sometimes it's a moral choice, sometimes it's cool back story about the place you're exploring, sometimes it's "consequences" that come to hit you later (like the girl you can save with a swallow potion), sometimes it's a new monster to fight. I did all the quests I could find and the only ones I found boring were the horse races.
>>
The worst thing about The Witcher 3 is how once you finish it, you realize that you just played the very best the videogame industry had, has and will have to offer.
It literally ruins videogames for you.
>>
>>378844090
Why not NG+? Genuinely asking because that's what I plan to do when I feel like playing it again
>>
>>378844636
I didn't enjoy the gameplay much (as in the combat, I thought it was too barebones) but the game still hooked me for its entire length. It's the only game ever I have played where I can say the gameplay wasn't very good but I enjoyed it immensely. I guess I can never call anyone out for liking a walking simulator again.
>>
>>378844872

Nit that poster. I'd say NG+ is more entertaining bcause you then have all of the unlocked abilities that can then make the combat more entertaining while offsetting the imcreased enemy levels. Having stuff like whirl and rend make the swordplay a lot more fun.
>>
>>378844872
This, I mean it has an option for scaling enemy to player level (which every game should have)
>>
>>378844636
It's not good nor bad, it serves its purpose without getting in the way.

>actually fun quests
This is the main reason TW3 is enjoyable

Even if half of them you can boil down to "use witcher sense and click the glowing red thing" and combat can be "dodge and spam igni", it doesn't matter since the writing for the quests are actually interesting

Meanwhile Skyrim's quests are literally just "go to this dungeon and kill all the draugr" without any engaging dialogue or characters or even motivation for doing the quest - who the fuck cares if some cavern is full of draugr, it's not like any of the 20 citizens of the capital city ever go outside the walls anyway

Same shit is what ruined Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect Andromeda - I have no motivation to help a bland character whose voice actor sounds like they were doing a warm-up just learning the lines when the recorder said "PERFECT THAT'S A WRAP"

Meanwhile in Witcher 3 even Random Peasant #19's quest is interesting and fun, even though all I did gameplay-wise was hold right-click and follow a red line then kill some drowners

This isn't really accurate. It depends on the type of game.

RPGs can often get away with lackluster gameplay if the writing is good compared to other genres, since in an RPG the writing is much more important than, for example, an FPS or RTS

Meanwhile an FPS can have a fantastic story, but nobody will give a shit if the shooting mechanics are terrible.

That said, even an RPG can't get away with shit-tier combat; Skyrim took a beating and rightfully so (especially since it didn't even have good writing to compensate) and pretty much everyone hates the combat in Witcher 1.

The gameplay in Witcher 3 is nothing special, but it's by no means bad. It's responsive, it's fluid, and Geralt generally won't do something you weren't telling him to do. That's really all that's required, and they delivered on it.
>>
>he doesn't use a mod to change all armor sets to look like Manticore armor
>>
I played to Skellige but then somehow stopped and haven't had the desire to come back. I really enjoyed the game while I played it but somehow its flaws are the only thing on my mind. I think that the game could be improved a lot by simply mixing up the enemy encounters a bit, having the player meet different kinds of combinations of enemies and so on. The treasure hunt quests were really good and fit perfectly to the open world but made other exploring kinda unnecessary and there weren't too many of them. Maybe one day I'll come back to the game and finish it, it's a good story heavy game but not really the witcher simulator I was secretly hoping it to be. The premise is perfect for an open world but the execution of the world could be better. I hope that CDPR gets that aspect right in their next game.
>>
Can I play this game without having played 1 and 2? I started them both but I can't stand the M+KB controls and I don't like playing RPGs with a controller.
>>
>>378844930
That one game with very mediocre game that I still liked a lot is Bioshock for me. Sometimes the world is just engrossing enough that the game paradoxically doesn't need great gameplay to be great. It just needs to be passable.
>>
>>378845808
Playing tW2 and 3 with KB+M is an inferior experience, it's like playing a shooter with a controller.
>>
>>378845808
You can, but I'd highly recommend at least reading wiki plot summaries

You won't really be that lost without it, everything gets explained pretty well and there's always the in-game glossary (definitely worth reading, even if you DO know what's going on) - but you'll probably enjoy it a bit more if you read up a bit beforehand
>>
>can't romance Ciri

Witcher 3 is basicallly a love story of Geralt and Ciri.

I'm playing the witcher 1 and does anyone know if the quest a mysterious tower is bugged? I've googled it and nothing has helped me so far. Basically I just released Vivaldi from prison and I've read the book he gave me but my quest journal is telling me to go to visit him and ask him about the book. When I go visit him there's no option to ask anything, I've been to Kalkstein aswell and he has no options either. What the fuck am I supposed to do now? I can't progress the main story?

>>
>>378843140
A couple of problems I had with it..
The combat is fucking abysmal. You can quen through absolutely anything. I had the difficulty on 'death Mary's or whatever and could still cheese mobs 20+ levels higher than me at all the ?s on the map.
Which brings me to my next issue, I'd kill something at my level or higher expecting something at least around that level range to drop but it doesn't seem to work like that. I'd constantly find useless weapons. That isn't saying much tho because the second you obtain witcher gear anything else can get fucked. The combat is just boring.
As well, the witcher senses shit is tedious & serves to chip away at the fun.
Geralt either moves fast as shit or too slow.
I don't get how his aesthetic is cool either.
There is more to say but I've gotta do.
The game has a lot of charm tho. It's still definitely worth having. A better skyrim. Gwent is awesome too.

Hearts of stone is probably the best storyline in the game. Blood and Wine is huge and gorgeous with a ton of content.
They did it by not cheapening out and cutting corners. ACG said it best back in the day. W3 Sidequests are better than most other AAA game's main quests.
Most AAA open world games employ checkboxes for 90% of their "content" while only hand crafting the final 10% of the "main" story.

Other AAA games are essentially turning out cheaply made and processed walmart crap and W3 was an artisan crafted specialty item found only in a fine dining establishment.

I played 65 hours and stopped. I've been meaning to go back but playing it compared to dark souls made the combat seem really shit, even on death March. I never liked the boring batman games though and this combat feels just like that. Also I really find myself not caring about the wild hunt or ciri, I heard xpacs were much better story wise but the gameplay is so dull it's impossible to motivate myself to continue.

I didn't use lock on outside of when I had to and changing animations doesn't make the game more fun to play.

The combats problem is being quite easy and basically a 3 button masher, not even a fun one. I wasn't even using an alchemy build that would have been more broken.

The game honestly feels like it would have been better as a choose your own adventure instead of having tedious bad combat, and at that point I'm better off just watching a good tv show.

The combat is absolutely dog shit, and the bosses are even worse.
I played on Deathmarch thinking that maybe if I went with a potion/bomb build I'd feel more like a witcher and it would be more fun, but how wrong was I.
Now the combat turns into pausing the game every 20sec to switch out bombs and potions. Eventually I just abused aard and quen all the way to the end.
The golems who get summoned during the final boss fights would kill themselves on my shield with one attack because they do so much fucking damage.
The difficulty setting balance in this game is absolutely atrocious.
