The Vita version is a bit better. It has a flow-chart somewhat similar to the way VLR was set up so you didn't have to spend all that time skipping around.

-professor layton and the lost future, one of the only games that's ever made me cry. (make sure you get the PAL version, as the localization is much better and they don't butcher the most important line in the game)

I think I put over 100 hours into the sequel. I was really bummed that it was digital-only because I waited for the English release for like 2 years.

I think the puzzles were better but it's a shame they dropped some of the game modes from the original

How does it compare to the battle network series? Just finished 1 & 2 and starting on 3 but every time I look at the starforce series I kinda think it looks like they removed gameplay complexity in favor of higher graphical fidelity.

Not OP but I finished that one two days ago. I think that while it's a well designed game I'd say that the Mystery Dungeon Series doesn't lend itself to varied gameplay. That said Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky is probably the best that the Mystery Dungeon Series has to offer, I think it's pretty much the ultimate entry point from casual gaming over to more traditional gaming. It's why if I was to recommend a game for kids I'd probably recommend it.

to some extent that's true, although the combat has kind of a cool focus on being faster-paced (once you get further along in SF.) The limited range and un-nerfed shield means there's much more focus on dodging and you can't just camp out like BN allows you to at times. I don't remember a whole lot in SF1, but SF2 & 3 have massive post-games that only BN3 can compete with. I'd say SF3 tops everything except BN3. SF1/2 aren't quite as good as BN2/BN3 but easily better than the oher BN games. BN4-5 are a quality drop across the board. 6 manages to unfuck the franchise but it still hurts for content, particularly after the butchered localization.

The DS has a couple of great VNs.
The Ace Attorney series is really good, I'm currently half way through the third game and I'm having a blast. Ghost Trick and Hotel Dusk are also really good but they've already been mentioned in the thread.
