That credit hoax in Melee destroyed me as a kid. I remember seeing the Super Mario Bros 2 event for the first time and thinking Toad would challenge you after. Nope.

It's strange they leave such an iconic character out of the game. I mean, he has his own game now. There's very little reason not to make Toad playable.

I have two that I have wanted because I feel they would be fun and interesting.
1. Dixie Kong. You could make her kinda like a hybrid between Jigglypuff and Little Mac. As in, her ground attacks are fast but weak, and her air attacks are slower, but stronger, and she has five jumps. So she can do less in the air then a Jigglypuff, but each hit adds up quickly. Also, just like how Diddy is a tribute in moveset to DK64, make Dixie a tribute to the Donkey Kong Country series. Her down special could be spawning a barrel immediately in front of you, so you could use it to block projectiles, and you could pick up the barrel and throw it too. Her side special can be her ponytail attack she got in Tropical Freeze, where she spins forward. Neutral B you could have as her projectile, where she takes out her guitar she had in DKC2, and she jams on it, and it shoots musical notes as projectiles. Her Up B could be spawning a launch barrel where you are at at the time, and having it launch you in the direction it spawns in, which you control. As for her classic hover, you could make her Nair a spinning attack, and make it where holding down A makes her slowly hover down. She could be a really awesome and creative character.

2. My second idea that I thought would be cool is Jeff from Earthbound. All of his moves could be based on his machines in the game. It would be cool to have the slime generator work where it spawns a small slime creature that chases someone around to latch on to them and become like the flower status, but you can knock it off or kill it rather easily, and it can't be spawned too quickly. I dunno, I just feel like Jeff would be really creative of a moveset as well.

Ever since I saw Captain Toad and how he can't jump I thought of a moveset involving the backpack. The idea is that his weight is dynamic and it depends on how much shit is in his bag. It could either charge, gradually stockpile, or both and his specials throw shit out of the bag like coins, golden mushrooms, and pickaxes. He could either be light and speedy or slow and heavy depending on his bag. That's what I suggested for my vote in the ballot anyways.

You'd see people jumping back into it just to test out the new characters, and then ignoring the game again. The hype died, the hype for released characters died and the general interest just faded away. Other than playing it competitively ("competitive" smash 4, lol) there isn't much to do in this game. Bust it out at a party or friend gathering and yeah, lots of dumb fun, but then it goes back into obscurity.

Personally, I blame the watered down mechanics and general feel of the game. Everything feels automatic and just... unsatisfying.
