Act 3, besides having lame quests, is a cool setting. Getting shit to protect the town with hoodoo bullshit is cool, too

I liked Lut Gholein. Except for that freeze aura on the boss

Act 3 << Act 2 < Act 4 < Act 5 < Act 1 < Diablo3

Act 1 and 4 are the only well thought out acts.
Act 1 had a dark and foreboding atmosphere with places like the countess's cellar. Then the rogue monastery (shouldnt it be a covenant?) was great horror, as soon as you delve into the earth from the somewhat safe courtyard you went into a jail full of mutilated corpses.
Act 2, except for a few tombs, already had a mission structure that was falling apart, bunch of running through a desert and shitty dungeons.
Act 3 was dark, but the design, from the town to the jungle, were pure cancer. The fallen temple however was great
Act 4 managed to have both a great town and a dark hell landscape

Act 1 is by far the best.
2 is ok, 3 has a cool vibe but suffers because it has too little variety.
Act 4 feels too short, like they ran out of time or ideas.

Act 5 doesn't even feel like Diablo anymore.
Easily the worst part of the entire game.
Felt more like it belonged to Warcraft with how cartoony it was.
Kinda like what Diablo 3 turned out to be.

I disagree I like median alot more. I have played way more median than vanilla at this point. The only real difference between the two is the uber bosses median introduces may require build specific set ups, everything else is just an extension of the originals mechanics.

It's hard to go wrong with act4 since you are literally in hell. However the Pandamonium fortress was sweet.

Every NPC there was ultra buff despite the vendors having like 2 voice lines, they are high quality. Just the way they calmly reply with "Hail to you, champion" gives a sense that these NPCs are champions themselves who have spent a lifetime cultivating martial prowess and mental stoicism.

Those lines and tyrael made you feel as if you were on a higher level.

Median's combat is too big of a clusterfuck for my taste

Yeah but even hell felt cool. The only thing I missed was some kind of downward dungeon crawl to diablo, instead you have to run sideways. Something like passing down rings of hell becoming more fucked up before getting to the cathedral wouldve been great.

Its kinda sad I only started with LOD, because the fortress felt more like an endgame town than harrogath. The few people around are all champions themselves, the place is small and all the important stores are packed on top of eachother, the questgiver is a fucking angel.
