Power stancing always seemed boring. It's pretty much just a more powerful version of 2 handing that requires higher stats and double the upgrades. Not to mention most of the animations for it look utterly moronic. DS3 at least gave you much faster attacking for 2 handing, which makes a lot more sense and is more interesting than just moar damage.

Also they shouldn't have let you do it with any weapon you please. 2 longswords is fine but 2 greatswords looks idiotic and damages the classic souls theme that your character isnt superhuman.

This is a game that could be edited in half and would be DRAMATICALLY improved. The online and QoL mechanics are the best in the series, however. Shit like bonfire ascetics being absent in DaS3 is kind of baffling. And the quantity of viable builds is pretty impressive.

I can't think of very many enemy encounters that take advantage of an enemy's moveset and interfaces it with the environment in creative ways that emphasize that enemy's strengths. I think they could have done a lot better job with the enemy variety, there doesn't seem to be a lot of otherworldy or weird enemies in the game, and while dudes in armour are the bread and butter of the series, and done fairly well in DS2, there really needed to be more outlandish enemies. I would have loved to have at least seen more uniquely designed lads in armour if they had interesting weapons, like the guys with pairs of giant shields in the undead crypt.

I don't follow you so much when it comes to encounter design, I thought the way encounters were set up was usually handled pretty well, requiring you to strategise how you took on your enemies and use the environment as best you can, especially with areas like the Shaded Woods or Shrine of Amana. Some of them felt a little underdeveloped like Dragon's Aerie where it's pretty much just encounters lined up after each other

I can think of lots of areas that are just series of encounters on unremarkable landscapes. Heide Tower, Pharros cave, the depths, aldia's house, eleum loyce.

Honestly I think the strongest areas in the game are some of the very first. Drangleic, Bastille, the Wharf, and the copse are probably my favorites.

I think it's just the consequence of the game being so big that it's really a quantity over quantity issue so it has become bloated with some sub-par areas, and plenty of sub-par bosses.

Also, how can you dislike Heide's Tower? The bosses are probably the worst in the game, but I just love the atmosphere it has, in the ruins of some ancient nearly forgotten civilisation being swept into the sea. I can forgive the simple enemy encounters for being so early in the game, but I like how open it is and how you can see each of the giant enemies from so far away and pull them if you want. Also, I liked Pharros Cave, but I can't really think of why on reflection, maybe I just like caves a bunch.

Aldia's mansion was really disappointing, I was expecting some weird rundown manor filled with warped abominations to fight, instead it was a corridor with enemies we've all seen before and that's about it.

i've been playing DS2 with a friend and having a pretty good time. soul memory is hardly an issue with the named ring and i haven't encountered a mass of invincible invading trainer fags like i did playing through DS1.

some of the DS2 levels are a little unimaginative and the ending is pretty anticlimactic but the gameplay is fun. the 60 frames makes a huge difference in fluidity too. not sure why it gets so much hater other than this being /v/.

I'm playing with a sorcerer right now, I rarely roll anymore after I've discovered that it's pointless. Enemies will still connect with you if are rolling and it consumes way too much stamina. It's easier to learn their patterns and locations and run around/under them to dodge. Very few bosses actually require you to roll.

I have a lot of problems with DS2 but it's still an enjoyable game in its current state. Release was a fucking shitfest, though. Probably my biggest problem with it is how incredibly low the production values are - animations are stilted and amateurish, the graffix are generally bad, UI elements are kind of ugly though menus are significantly more usable than either DS1 or 3 in general, the music is barely apparent, things like that.

Really wish the GOOD design decisions, for however many there were, were actually carried over to DS3 though.

Magic is nowhere near as OP as DaS1's until you get Soul Geyser and the Wisdom Staff and those are all pretty damn lategame. There are more bosses that are resistant to it, you have less time to hammer bosses when they whiff(or they were a joke without sorcery), and you need like 5 different goddamn stats while the game really pushes you to pump Int early.

At least it's not DaS3's shit sorcery that never becomes good, though. Sure, it technically outranges pyromancy, but that means jack and fucking shit in Everything Rushes You Down Souls and isn't worth losing in cast times, damage per cast, utility, and needed stats to get your damage up to par.

Because that gets multiplied by 55% by the Skeleton Lords' NG+ ring. I can take or leave the cast speed by endgame, but in early and midgame? Fuck that, I'm not being stuck in place casting GHSA/Soul Spear any longer than I absolutely have to because it's a pain in the ass to get Vitality when you have 5 other stats competing.

Am playing soccer of the fist sin, since it's on sale (ps4). The only complaint I have so far is a certain lag, when you try to run while stamina is refilling, and when you press parry. Other than that I had no trouble so far and it feels more polished than DaS1 and DeS.

Luck. Unless you're having a particularly bad time chasing the elusive pure bladestone then there's never a reason to actually level it. The plague resistance it gives is negligible because the buildup is so fast and you'd need at least 50 to have decent resistance to it anyway. Yes, but that is because of how they nerfed the rolls due to the inclusion of ADP. I understand they wanted to differentiate builds more, but I feel that wasn't the proper way to.

I think that modifying rolls is something that is done better in blocks than gradually. Helps make things easy to see at a moment's notice. Helps making that roll feel reliable. That and making a stat you pretty much have to increase, because pretty much everyone rolls, doesn't sound like fun. Especially when it's so important to, what imo, were the most fun playstyles (two handing/dual wielding)

I genuinely hated the place going in first time as well because they lead you into the worst fucking battles. Its worth falling down ledges and getting one guy at a time as much as possible, its not fun.
Also explosive enemies are great as mines against stronger enemies like the molten golem dudes.

The 3rd DLC is much better though, just sucks they all use the same knight enemy for all 3. The rest are different but the main enemy is similar across the board.

And dont bother with the "challenge" routes unless you either summon or are OCD for items and soloing bosses like I am.

My only experience with Scholar is when a friend was asking for tips while I was over at his house. He's quite bad (although I'll attribute a large part of this to the fact he's playing on keyboard and that he didn't know what AGL did) but to his credit won't give up. Ended up beating Scorpioness Najka for him after not having touched the game in 3 years and only personally playing on PS3.
