Why are bosses no longer included in most games? There's nothing better than constantly losing against a boss and then finally completely destroying them once you learn the proper tactics.

It means that actually having to replay a section and get better at the game breaks the narrative flow. People would rather just get through in one try and get to the next part of the story than learn how to beat the computer.
At least that's how it is in the west. In japan, you've got games like Shadow of the Colossus and Monster Hunter that are pretty much NOTHING BUT boss battles and they have a massive fanbase.

>Shadow of the Colossus and Monster Hunter
If you've got a game where near everything is boss grade or a game where everything is mob tier it works. It's when you're shooting your way through a hundred mooks and a different colour mook turns up that can shrug off rockets and shoot lightning that it breaks narrative unless you can put in some explanation of it and unless your game has magic or other handwaves it can be extremely difficult to make it internally consistent with the rest of the game world.

That's the saddest thing I've heard, particularly coming from a dev. There's nothing more rewarding in a game than defeating a giant boss that is impeding you from advancing. Literally nothing offers a bigger sense of accomplishment.
>play some of the linear castlevania
>Really frustrating but I feel like a champ every time I clear a level
>End up feeling that the character I'm playing is a fucking hardass
>Play Mass Effect
>Ahah you're so great Shepard !
>Everyone suck shepard dick about how strong he is
>Meanwhile the gameplay isn't anything special difficulty wise and I end up thinking anyone could take Shpard's place

Well, you know the new gen. The idea of having to put effort into anything to receive a reward is devilish.
Western devs can make GOAT bosses when they want to.
>>378639865
So that's why the west doesn't make any good games anymore.

That's why I couldn't play the ds firw emblems. Everyone just sucks the MCs dick nonstop. It's disgusting

>implying you've never seen a boss before

*unzips penis* suck on this
For me a good final boss can change my entire opinion about the game.
Especially when he's incorporated into narrative well and has a great theme.
That's why i can't stand vast majority of western games nowadays.

I guess I'm one of the few miserable people who thinks "i'm glad that's over" when finally defeating a boss thats been kicking my ass.

I have and I loved it
This thread made me realize every game i own on ps4 is made in japan but i just picked the games that looked good. They all have boss fights by the way. Not trying to shit on anything, just blogging.

What games do you have
I think its that some games don't really need bosses and including them will hurt the game
>>378639163
Because a lot of western games that get released nowadays belong to genres that have rarely done bosses well (stealth, open world, FPS with hitscan weapons etc.). With those genres, stealth especially, it's sometimes better to go without bosses.
Plus, the west have never been good at designing bosses. Before QTEs, the approach western devs took to bosses was "let's take a regular enemy and make them a damage sponge", rather than designing interesting encounters.
>>378639163
Good bosses require that the developer actually knows something about game design, so most western devs don't bother.

I believe this is the most likely scenario as of late
