Good or decent French players will actually make sure they don't out themselves as French. It usually works. I've noticed French (at least those with a speck of education) can write in a much better English than most other Europeans, at least better than those from Latin countries. Probably a price to pay for having one of the worst accent for spoken English.

As I said, no one ever guessed I was French online. Among the players that are totally not shit that you are meeting, I'm pretty sure (at least, I certainly hope) that there are French people like me among them.
I consider myself somewhat fluent, at least I've never had any problems understanding an English player when playing.

I'm French and i know what you mean.
Some guys are like, terrible with english. Most of the time it's the type that goes only on facebook and play AAA games with french voices.
But the others can understand and talk english pretty well, but i limit myself with the written chat as i'm not as comfy with my oral expression.
