Blood vials > Estus flasks as the superior health regeneration item.
>>
>>378522549
Wow, you've got the whole souls formula wrong there friend.
>>
Blood vials were only good in the bloodborne because of speed of gameplay and only in the pve, in pvp they were a cancer
Estus on the other hand

Dark Souls 3 estus was the only system that couldn't be abused to hell. Still needed work though.

A merge of Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 3 estus system would be the perfect balance.

Never played any of the other Souls games but the fact that you could carry up to 24 vials, essentially giving you circa 24 extra lives at any point, is one of the main reasons it made this game so ridiculously, inherently easy.

I went in blind and platinumed it in 10 days, never having played a Souls game before.
>>
>>378523263
Above das3, objectively would be above first das estuts, but I love limited healing more
>>378523418
>essentially giving you circa 24 extra lives at any point
Each vial heals around 40%
>>
>>378523489
I meant circa 12 extra lives.
>>
>>378523085
But healing is parryable, so you still have stopped create an opening to be able to heal. It's the same system but applied to much faster combat.
>>
>>378523418
I went in blind, handless, and platinumed it in 27 minutes. I never played video games ever.
>>
>>378523198
it's understandable that lifegems take a lot of shit in a game like dark souls, however you must remember the retarded enemy design, it's either you circle around for 5 mins to not to take damage, or you trade and move on, or you just use a boring meta to lmao through everything
>>
>>378523270
This.
DS2 estus may as well not exist because the game had lifegems.
>>
>>378523604
Where's your proof?
>>
>>378522549
Correct. Disgusts me how the general consensus is that estus is better. Estus allows you to tank through bosses without learning their movesets and without consequence.

>Gives you 20 health items cap as well
How is this fair?
>>
>>378523946
Yeah, but das3 estus is fucking faster than vials while bosses literally do nothing after combos
>>
>>378523776
First was DaS 1, I'm just not a blind nostalgia fag who refuses to accept changes that are genuine improvements. Estsus in DaS 1 was okay but by mid-game you could remove nearly all challenge. Consumable systems are shit because they're wide open to abuse and actually allow a situation where you have to grind souls so that you can buy stuff to heal.
>>
>>378523986
Its fair in a game where enemies can take 40% of your health off just by making one little mistake
>>
>>378524109
Yeah BB is harder but I'd say all the DS games have equally retarded healing.

1 gives you full heals with humanity and no real cap on how many you can have/use, plus 20 estrus, plus divine blessings, plus miracles
>>
>>378523418
I summoned you yesterday faggot, where were you?
>>
>>378524189
I feel like Bloodborne is a lot less punishing though since you generally have more maneuvrability than any of the prior games.

Miss-timing a hit feels less like a death sentence because of how fast the recovery is.
>>
>>378524180
That situation where you have to grind souls to buy consumables is the players punishment for greedily using too many consumables in boss fights instead of learning movesets, as opposed to infinite estus which doesn't punish greed at all.
>>
>>378522549
Having to grind for bloodvials is awful and I'm baffled that they chose to implement the system in its final form. It's not worth buying them from the Hunter's Dream because they cost too much for what they're actually worth and the real kick in the pants is that they actually get MORE EXPENSIVE as you progress, despite healing the same amount, so they're absolutely never worth buying ever.

Bloodvials are shit, probably the worst healing system in any soulsborne game. I'd even take DeS grass over this shit. There should at least have been some better form of bloodvials that healed more or something, some way to heal more than the fixed amount they do. Even just letting you hold down triangle to heal 2 at a time or something, just anything to make it not so damn static.
>>
>>378523418
To get platinum you would of have had to beaten the game 3 times or make a backup of your save to get each ending. Which was it?
>>
>>378523985
I wonder what kind of porn fetishes that fuck has
>>
>>378522549
Blood vials was the correct solution for BB, a game that comes with a health regain system. It makes regaining your health via combat that much more important. Simply sitting down at a lamp post and having your estus refilled would make it irrelevant.

PS if you ever had to grind for vials after playing the previous Souls entries you are retarded.
>>
>>378524995
*circa 3 times
>>
>>378523946
If you got up to 20 in Dark Souls, you're either far enough that you're past all the hard parts, or you looked up everything anyway.

>>
>>378524995
I played through twice, I'd already eaten the umbilical cords so had to do a run on NG+. I got the other 2 endings via using a save spot in the cloud. I would have done all 3 this way if I knew about it sooner, save me the bother of running through the tedium any more than required.
>>
>>378525140
Why didn't they just make it a limit of 5 vials at the start and then increase it to 10 after bsb?

I guess maybe it's because there's less gear in Bloodborne so From wanted to give you more to spend Echos it on or something.
>>
>>378525343
I just realized your picture says you unlocked all 3 trophies on the same day?
That answers my question but that cant mean you beat the game twice. Unless you beat it under 6 hours.
>>
>>378524995
You do realize the extra playthroughs only require you beating the main story path which is only a few bosses and takes under 2 hours for subsequent playthroughs, right?

I played through the game 5 times in my 70 hour platinum.

>>
>>378525642
Bloodborne's required stuff is actually very short.

Central Yharnam > Gascoigne > Buy key for 10,000 echoes > Cathedral Ward > Vicar Amelia > Forbidden Woods > Shadows of Yharnam > Byrgenwerth > Rom > Yahar'gul > One Reborn > Nightmare of Mensis > Micolash > Nightmare cont. > Wet Nurse > Final Boss

It doesn't take very long at all to complete Bloodborne on a replay once you know what's actually optional.
>>
>>378523946
Also, damn near everything in DS3 can two-shot you no matter armor you're wearing. It was actually shocking to go back to DS2 and see how little damage even the Pursuer did to me.
>>
>>378525642
I can easily run through a NG+ under two hours if I'm taking my sweet time.
>>
>>378525864
The fact that the game makes you grind at all is retarded though.

Old Yharnam can be a real pisser your first time through, since the enemies there rarely ever drop vials, and you have a hell of a gauntlet to run through. After that, I don't remember Blood Vials being a problem, but I did have to go back and farm from earlier enemies at one point.
>>
>>378526786
>didn't happen on my playthrough so its not a problem

stop being such a drone
it a problem that you only really encounter on your first run though which is a massive issue because your first run should be the best. not broken up with grind because you have the fucking cheek to not kill every boss on your first try.

>>
>>378526786
That's fine for the base game, but when you're fighting Orphan for an hour you're not going to want to fight him undersuppllied and relying on rally.
>>
>>378527139
He's right though
First run through, I always had at least 200 vials in storage. The idea that some of you had to set aside time to specifically farm for vials is hilarious. It's like you people can't play games
>>
>>378527038
but most of the enemies drop blood vials especially the 6 or 7 werewolves at the bottom
>>378527139
I'm not a drone for leaning the mechanics of the game and not being such a shitter that I needed to farm blood vials
not being retarded and buying a few now and again helped too, blood echoes aren't just for levelling
>>
>>378527238
It's possible that I'm remembering wrong. I remember them dropping a lot of blood gems and antidotes instead of vials, but it's been a long time.
>>
>>378527027
I blame the PvPfags. From's constantly making compromises in their games for the sake of what's essentially a minigame.
>>
>>378527365
Werewolfs = 2+ vials guaranteed
Beasts = vial
Poison beasts -= antidote or vial
>>
>>378525642
I ran through NG+ in about 3 hours. It's easy. The whole game is easy.

I'm glad my achievements astound you though.
>>
>>378527285
I guess but being at the stage where you can fight Orphan and running out of blood vials is a fringe scenario, most people will have enough blood echo items or vials in storage to deal with him
>>
>>378522549
They'd be good if they refilled to 20 on death. What's the gameplay benefit to having to recollect them after dying to a boss?
>>
DaS1 had the best healing.
>start with 5 off the bat but can increase to 10 and later in game 20
>not too slow to heal, but not instant
>summons cannot use it themselves, instead having to rely on the host, just as phantoms can't use it
>can heal with other items, but they're quite rare/valuable (divine blessing/humanity)

DaS3's estus is close to this, but allows you to move around while chugging, which is annoying. It's nice that you can change allotted estus though.

DaS2's might as well not even exist with all the other items in the game that can heal you. Not only that, but you only start with a few early game anyway, so it basically pushes you to rely on lifegems, which you can carry 99 stacks of and are easily purchasable. Showing they learned nothing from DeS and the improvements DaS had over it.

Blood vials are a great system in that they always heal a set % of hp, but the fact that you can farm more during your time between lanterns means that healing can be too easy, coupled with the regen mechanic. I could start off with 20, use 10, but get like 8 from enemy drops so it not matter most of the time anyway aside from bosses.

DeS system is easily the worst. Having regenerating hp items that heal so much, like the ring and shield and then having stacks of 99 healing items meant that it could be ridiculously abused and even the shittiest player can just tank their way through most encounters.
>>
I never had to grind for blood vials, but I'd still argue it's a fairly inelegant solution compared to estus. There's really no reason that lamps don't reset the world and refill some amount of blood vials, beyond that they wanted to distance it from Souls more. Seems like blood vials and bullets being a dropped item might have simply been to make up for the fact that so little drops from enemies compared to Souls.

Yes, rare. It's not like you can just buy a ton of them for 200 souls each or something stupid.

>>378528502
Grass was the most retarded healing system there was. The weight was irrelevant since it was practically a non issue with grass. But ok, let's say someone has difficulty with weight, they can merely put everything except their weapon and armour in storage and abuse grass all day.
But you're no doubt one of those DeS apologists that glosses over everything due to nostalgia.

blood vials were nice. expecially for making your way through the game. because in bloodborne lanterns are very far apart blood vials keep you from running out of heals all the time because you're always picking them up. however this donsent take into account that some people are very incompitent and end up wasting all their vials on a boss or pvp.

As someone who naturally hoards in games, DeS, DaS2 were the worst for me, I never ran out of healing items and the game posed little challenge to me because of that, I had to really fuck things up hard in the middle of combat over and over to die, BB was also pretty easy for me, the rallying system along with 24 blood vials meant I'd have to try pretty damn hard to run out of healing items, also if any one actually has trouble with blood vials and needs to farm them, as a tip, if you ever go back to the hunters dream to level/upgrade gear or whatever, if you have spare souls left over spend them on extra blood vials, at the end of the game I had around 280 in storage. DaS and DaS3 were the most challenging for me in the series because I was forced into having this small limited amount, until later in the games that is when you do get plenty of estus.

>>

>>
>>378529825
There are two solutions, and Souls does one while Bloodborne does the other. Either you make healing risky, or you make fights battles of attrition. In Souls, you almost never die from running out healing. Deaths come from using them at bad times. In Bloodborne, it's literally impossible to die with remaining blood vials, so bosses have inflated health pools to make the accumulation of your mistakes over time matter.

I was actually still in my mash backroll stage when I beat him, I found him relatively easy because you only have to deal with his beast form for a small part of the fight, BSB is what taught me how to play, going from wasting tons of blood vials and still dying to having no problem at all and only using a couple at most by just learning to roll into him, BSB I think caused me the most deaths out of all the bosses in the main game and DLC.

10 days fag was right, this game is piss easy, so easy it's not even enjoyable. I want blood vials just incase but I don't really need them, but nobody needs them. That being said they're nice to have. Bloodborne is so devoid of challenge it may as well be a walking sim so lovecraftfags can jerk themselves to sleep dreaming of space gods and trench coats

Yeah but none of those things drop full health except for the fanciest grass and none of them exist in a game where you can get the heal off no matter what because of poise.
>>
>>378531975
Thank you, albeit I'm not gay. I have a girlfriend and child.

It is easy though:

> dodging makes you invincible
> you can run past every enemy if you like
> a core mechanic in the game is that you can simply summon 2 people to do anything remotely difficult for you

The game's a joke. I know difficulty doesn't make a game good but if a game is so inherently easy it ruins the experience.

4/10 I'd rank it, and that's only really because of the graphics which are its one redeeming feature.

Why is it that any one who says that Bloodborne is easy is now accused of being this 10 day faggot? It is an easy game, it takes some longer to adjust to the way the game plays as some people try to play it exactly like Dark Souls but this doesn't mean it's not easy.
>>
>>378533734
The only way to get blood vials is either from enemy drops or buying them from the store (which isn't worth). How else do you acquire more bloodvials without grinding?
>>
>>378534023
You shouldn't ever need any more blood vials than the ones that drop off the enemies along the way
>>
>>378534208
What if you do harder bosses first?
What if someone is generally worse than the game than other players?
What if you do a level 4 run?

All of those conditions are void with estus.
>>

>What if you do harder bosses first?
Your problem.

Then they should be punished for it.

Even though that's just a copypasta, the original guy definitely didn't go in blind or without help, I played with him in Forbidden woods and showed him how to progress before getting him killed by the afflicted beggar.
>>
>>378534708
It is a good thing. One pointless thing to care about that could completely halt your progression, and they based mechanics off it in past games.

Other online players kindle which grants you an estus. A covenant in the game is based on kindling bonfires with humanity which grants more estus for you.

Had vials been constrained based on your bloodtinge stat, and cap them at at least lower than 12, then maybe vials wouldn't be a mistake.

Want to restock on vials? Best enjoy sitting through 2 loading screens.

Vials were awful, stop pretending they are better than Estus.
>>
>>378535127
It could be worse, it could be Nioh where you need to find hidden bullshit in each level to increase your number of heals for that specific level.

I don't understand . It's like there is a collective faux attraction for this game hanging over this board like a nasty, poisonous mist. It's like each and every one of the posters who praise this game try to outdo the others by going to greater extends of buzzwords and hyperboles. Comments like "it's the best game I've ever played" aren't rare. Yet, for all the hype for its story, difficulty, character development and atmosphere, it just falls flat. It truly is a rolling simulator with a handful of mechanics you need to understand. When you inevitably do master these mechanics, the game becomes trivial.
>>
>>378522549
I liked the fact that in bloodborne, if you played ok you could pretty much explore forever, since bloodvials would drop from enemies killed.
There were some times in which I spend hours exploring an area without dying or leaving it and literally everything was already dead, this is not possible(it is, but it's hard) with estus because there's a limited amount to it so eventually you have to go back to the bonfire.
The problem with blood vials is that once you get stuck you're fucked, farming it is not fun, and even if you are only going to the dream to buy some more you're still waiting 2 loading screens(that in the shitty ps4 takes forever).

I feel like the best healing item would be a mix between das3 estus and bloodvials. As in:
>You start with a pre-determined amount of vials, this amount is based on some collectables you find exploring (like estus shards)
>The maximum you can start with is 10. So you start the game always respawning with 1, and you can collect 9 blood vial shards to increase this number.
>Enemies still drop blood vials
>you can still buy them
>the maximum cap is still 20

I'd also like if there was some gems that actually decreased the amount you vials you can carry, but increase the amount they heal. I don't know if there is something like this in bloodborne since I've only played it once, but the small amount they heal became a problem later on.
>>
Blood vials are horrible simply because you can get more by killing enemies, without returning to a bonfire.

This leads to two possible things.
DaS2 game design where damage is essentially unavoidable regardless of player skill
Or
You never run out of healing.

Sadly Bloodborne went the path of both of them, making the combat frustrating yet still not providing a challenge outside of a few choice bosses.
>>
>>378527027
estus shards > bonfire kindling

>>
>>378535874
That's what happens when MLGkids turn something into a #HardcoreGamer benchmark. Much of the community for these games actually doesn't care for them all that much (that's why every Souls thread is full of constant bitching) and a lot of the people who buy them do so on name alone. Just under half of the people who bought Bloodborne (or at least stuck it in their PS4) didn't beat the first necessary boss.

Are you trying to register surprise that challenge runs exist and videos of people dicking around in the sewers don't?

Retards

Using estus, especially in a bossfight is trickier than in any souls game so its basicly not an option and lifegems render you unable to do shit for at least 20 seconds if you are a new player and dont want to die. Ds2 has the perfect system that allows exploration and aggressive bossfights even against multiple enemies. Play the game once

neither of which is a real concern in a single-player ARPG.

Of course life gems should be ignored when talking about healing items in the series. Literally the only game in the series without cheap infinite healing is DaS3 and as far as the games with infinite healing go DaS2's slow healing is the least abusable.

they should just replenish all blood vials to max whenever you respawn, and keep the drop rate on enemies as it is, and not let you accumulate blood vials in the storage, that's all
>immediatelly removes farming from the equation

Wrong. Max is 32.

Very wrong.
1 vial restores 40% HP so you need to pop 3 vials to get from 1HP to max although you waste a half of your third one.
Measured in 'extra lives' that's 9 full HP bars + 60% of the 10th one.
