my Beyerdynamic DT770s broke after years and years and I'm poor so I had to buy lower end headphones. Ended up with K240s and I actually like them quite a bit.
Not closed, and not as bass heavy as the 770s but I feel like the highs are a bit cleaner. But maybe that's because I always had my 770s turned way up. Good deal for $70.

Headphones are great for gaming, but I don't much like my HD800s for it. Too many games have shitty sound that actually clips or distorts in high frequency ranges.

HD600s with a modmic or clipmic are the way to go, comfy, good sound, and just really nice.

Closed headphones are for considerate people don't want their audio to leak and bother everyone else. Open headphones leak audio but they have big soundastage, the audio feels big like its coming from all around the room.

I use my meme50x's and the sound stage is wide enough to discern directional sound to a good degree. I can for instance hear the footsteps of a player walk around me in a circle without a noticeably abrupt difference. However for gaming the wider the sound stage the better. I bought the ATH m50's for music though
>>
>using headphones for vidya instead some X.1 system that makes your entire appartment shake when shit is going down

My ATH-M50s are tres incredible for gaming and music.

>>
>>378475987
Open headphones are not good if you play hentai games with voice acting.
>>
>>378473724

open is better for gaming cuz the soundstage is bigger which means you can better tell which direction sound is coming from (if the game has good audio at least).

also fuck people who cry about sound leaking and bothering others. youre in your room playing video games, who is it gonna bother?
>>
>>378473724
>>378475043
Open headphones are more breathable and more natural sound. Downside is you can hear outside noise and people can hear your headphones as if they're speakers.

If you like bass, closed is better.

Soundstage is a literal meme. I can tell exactly where shit is just as good with my IEMs as I can with my open headphones.
>>
>>378462047
Picked these up on sale for 80 Canadian didgery-doos 2 years ago. One of the best purchases I've ever made, actually. The big thing with these is aside from the fantastic sound, they are comfortable enough for me to wear all the time. This was a huge problem for me because I have a big head and all the """gamer""" headsets were absolute trash. All plastic, inflexible, small, extremely uncomfortable, shitty mics and bad sound quality.

I was using earphones before a head. After this I will never allow myself to ever play vidya without one. I would recommend the senheiser head I use to anyone. ive had it for 2 years now and I mistreated her badly but shes made out of fucking titanium and is still going strong.

if you actually game without a headset, immediately kill yourself.
>>
I'd love to use my headphones but I just don't take to them well

Having anything touching my ears for more than 10 minutes starts to give me massive headaches and make me feel flushed. I get the same problem with glasses. I have no idea why

So my ath-m50x's are doomed to just sit on my desk looking pretty
>>

>>378478528
that's because m50s hurt like hell for alot of people
if you have small ears put some wool or something beneath the pads
if you want to go ghetto you can just use some toilet paper instead, that'll work too
if it still hurts, you're fucked
>>
>>378478546
It comes with two ports, one for the mic and one for the sound. Plug in the sound and plug in your microphone and youll be ok.

>>378478528
I had this problem too. Just remove one of your earbuds and switch periodically. You lose a lot of body heat from your earlobes, and if you block them youll get a headache really easily.
>>
>>378466180

Blue Snowball like the other poster said is good, but only if you live alone or your roommates are fairly quiet. It picks up goddamn everything.

The Antlion Mod Mic is a good quality mic that you can stick to any set of headphones for a pseudo gaymen headset, but actually good quality.

Either will run you about $60
>>
>>378478372
Build quality looks pretty cheap for "titanium". In general how do you think they compare to the equivalent price range headsets? How is the mic quality? I mean for 170+ bucks I'd expect more then just the Sennheiser logo.

>>
>>378475449

What's the source on this? Tried a reverse image search, no success. Tried searching character names, not really any luck there either...
>>
>>378478895
I didnt pay more than 90 for my headset, brand new. I wouldnt justify the price, but the sturdiness of this headset is crazy. The microphone is completely fine, but it wont beat an actual microphone itself obviously. The headset also doesnt have good sound suppression, so when you play loud music, people can hear it faintly through the earbuds.

Aside from that, its been good to me and its comfortable too. I think nowadays there are better ones for a better price.

Beyer Premium line headphones are built with a light grip and more comfortable pads. the 880 premiums are the most comfortable thing I've ever owned. Also the Audio Technica ATH open headphones line has the "wing" design that makes them sit nicely without gripping your head.

I dont remember their specific names, but one was 120 dollars by Tritton. Most comfortable one I've head which sounded amazing but it started breaking down after just a few months. Second one is Tritton too, it has been with me for 3 years, but it cost 30 dollars and it hurts to use. Third one is by turtle beach, 40 dollars. Nothig amazing, still hurts my ears.

This.
Soundstage is an implicit quality and as such only improves itself by broadening the range of acoustic power from one sound to the next. Closed headphones are just as capable of creating a discernible soundscape as open phones, the key difference being the distinction of volume. There are really only disadvantages then with open headphones as they permit extra coloration from not only background noise but their very construction as well.

I'm not a retard, so I know what I'm buying and what I'm getting for my value. As long as you don't waste a shitload of money on amps and DACs which are basically memes after a certain price point, you'll be fine. You have audible gains in sound quality up to the $1000 mark for open ears.

I work with an ipod classic gen 5 modded to have an internal SD card with 256gb of memory and running on rockbox. It's hooked up to a TEAC HA-p50 amp that can double as a DAC/amp combo if I hook it up to my computer. I use this with Beyer dt770 32 ohm and dt880 250 ohm.
