If you think about it, given From's boner for western culture, Aztec/MayanSouls might work very well.

Shit they can even carry over gun mechanics from BloodBorne with some sort of Conquistador-esque faction. Which especially works since that time period allows them to delve into the warrior / sacrificial culture of the aztec/mayan empire but still have traditional western weapons from "colonists" or something.

There's a lot you can do with medieval fantasy because the architecture, fashion and mythology is so diverse throughout Europe. And that also bleeds into the victorian setting which is also a time full of superstitions and interesting architecture and fashion.

Are you referring to the first one released in Japan? The first English King's Field is actually KF2.

If you're playing the original Japanese game, just bear in mind it's pretty linear. The rest of the series is nothing like that. KF2 drops you into an open-world and doesn't make any attempts to hold your hand. 3 and 4 are more of the same. (Although 4 is slightly more restrictive. You start out in a hub level that slowly branches out to other locations.)
