Lets put all shitposting aside.
Is 1080p 60fps obsolete for all but third worlders yet?
I'm gonna give it 3 years when even low end is 2560 60
Whats the reason it stops at 60fps?
As long as console schmucks keep their dated systems, 1080p will not die. And I'm completely fine with it since I'm not a graphics whore so I will only upgrade my 1080p 60hz monitor when absolutely necessary.
1080x144
or 4k at 60 or higher whatever you can reach with your GPU.
I stilll play at 1080 60fps right now but this is the 4th year since an update to my PC so I will upgrade my system to a 1k series to get that 144 fps until I have 4k monitors. I only just bought a 4k tv for my wife and kids to watch shitty movies on so I wont be upgrading until around xmas

Input lag and refresh rate is the only thing it matters though. Even 900p is acceptable if you have good responsiveness.
1080p is still the establishment. even people who can afford 4k and are interesting settle for a solid 1080p monitor or tv. Telivision and streaming is still mostly inefficient at 4k too, not just games.
we are in a protracted mid-late 2000s situation where people are slowly moving up in resolution but like you said, rather than go for 1080/4k they are fine with 720p/2560p. not the best analogy but similarly messy
tldr no, 1080 is still reigning comfortably supreme

1080p is fine but 60hz is outdated. Even going up to just 75 is a noticeable difference, especially if you play long sessions.
>I will only upgrade my [...] 60hz monitor when absolutely necessary.
Upgrading to higher refresh rate monitor is the opposite of being a graphics whore, because often you have to turn down graphical settings, but it's worth it for better gameplay

1080p is still standard for now but the FPS targets are as follows
>PC
144
>console
30

i will never know the problems of struggling to maintain 1080p60 because i don't own shitty hardware like amd fx series

Beyond 1080p is inevitable... The only thing is, can people be fucked upgrading for what many people can't tell is merely a visual upgrade? Right now, no. I sure as shit can't be stuffed buying 4K shit at the moment, because all my stuff is geared towards a 1080p screen anyway.

Most television is broadcast in 720.
