For a country that lives and breathes e-sports, why haven't that really made their mark from a development point of view?
Because their games aren't aimed at people like you. E-sports is popular among young people in Korea, but the money here lies in mobile games with microtransactions. People who can afford to spend money don't have time to play time-consuming games due to having to work 12+ hours a day

so basically just like japan?

>why haven't that really made their mark from a development point of view?
They did. They made a billion MMOs. Like 'em or not, they made a mark.

Pretty much, only that japan is all about console games whereas korea prefers pc
>>378400120
Just cause you don't play em doesn't mean they don't exist. Who /PIU/ or /ez2dj/ in here?
Gookman here,
we're living in a nanny state, they once tried to label games as drugs and heavily restricted video game companies even though it basically goes against business freedom
guess who championed this war against games? Feminists and mothers who only wants to see their kids become study slaves
They also played a part in banning porn here, it is like living in a muslim shithole
I'm only partially memeing here, we have something called "ministry of gender equality and family" basically leading all of this shit
oh and we koreans basically don't nurture creativity much, it is only about studying like robots, even in art schools you basically have to do everything your professor wants to, you don't get to have much room for your own style
>>378403554
oh well, I also should add
many korean video game companies are also to blame, they don't care much about making a good game, but only games that could milk out money with f2p cashing
>>378400120
Japan makes better games, so they don't bother.
Blame the anti-videogames cultists that have infiltrated the government. I'm not even exaggerating by labeling them as cultists.
>>378400120
why make more games when brood war already exists

Hwabyeong is one hell of a thing
>>378400120
They used to back in the 90's/early 2000's but nearly all of their companies went bankrupt because foreign games were that much more popular. The decent games during this time were brought over to other countries while korean developers turned to money schemes in the age of MMOS
>>378403554
This too. Korea is an absolutely shitty country if you're a student or a working man.
>>378405108
I think it's more a case of gwanjong
>>378402567
>so basically just like japan?
It's worse. at least Japan has gone through a lot of reforms and actively blacklist companies who work their employees to death. Korea is still the wild west in comparison.
>>378400120
>Korea hasn't made their mark from a development point of view.
They certainly have, fucking everyone knows what the term "Korean grindfest" means
>>378403554
>being this into roleplay
You could just ask, anon loves sucking dicks
>>378400120
They've made plenty of games, but there's the obvious language barrier. Also, their games generally suck dick. That's why most of their popular games (according to PC bang stats) are western
