Also if you really just want to get past this guy, I'd recommend trying a sorcerer class. Pepper him with spells from afar, you should be able to win in no time. Might die once or twice while you learn your spell cast times, but otherwise you should be good.

I cannot comprehend how anybody is shit at Dark Souls. I have been absolutely terrible at video games my whole life. He has a tiny health pool and his attacks are weak as fuck, if you can't make it past Gundyr you literally won't even make it to the next boss in the game. The tutorial boss served its intended purpose by being the gateway to the rest of the content in the game. You failed to defeat it, which means you aren't ready for any other challenged in the game. This is a good thing on the game's end, but says very bad things about your technical ability at video games.

The worst thing about Iudex Gundyr is that he's such a pushover, every time I fight him I just wish that the fight could last longer and actually pose a thread.

95% of Souls isn't artificial difficulty. Artificial Difficulty DOES exist Bed of Fucking Chaos but most everything in Souls is generally trivialized by skillful play.

If you're not pre-programmed to roll every time an enemy looks at you funny (if you haven't JUST stopped playing DS2 to pick up DS3, for example) then you might just make the mistake of trying to block his attacks or just move out of the way and attack him. Then he goes Pus-Of-Man on you, making his attacks extremely difficult to gauge as to WHERE his attacks will damage you and where it's safe to stand.

Maybe you just got fucking lucky your first run through. Did you ever think of that?
