If I'm the kind of fag who loves System Shock 2 and Dishonored will this satisfy or is it gonna be disappointing for 90 maple syrup bucks?
>>
>>378347804
It's like half-off on key seller sites. Don't spend too much, solid game but isn't groundbreaking beyond a few puzzles that are neat.
>>
>>378348139
>key seller sites

which are redundant whenever paying with canuck bucks
>>
It's GOTY and honestly does many things better than System Shock, while also. doing many things not quite as good. Overall great game, a genuine successor to the legacy of SS and DX.
>>
>>378347804
>inb4 all the shit posters.

I'm a huge Bioshock/ System shock fag. Op it's great. I got it off a key site for $30 and would pay full price for sure. Definitely way better than i expected. Dont let hivemind /v/ tell you otherwise.
I promise you will enjoy this.
>>
>>378347804
You will most likely love it. Try the demo.
>>
>>378347804
Totally, yes. Although I think the ending segments, from a gameplay standpoint could've been different, more akin to end of SS2, I still had a lot of fun during the 45 hours I played the game for
>>
>>378347804
>System Shock 2 and Dishonored

famalam it's those two mushed together, you'll like it a lot
>>
>>378349073

nonononono

the demo has a fuckton of technical problems that have still not been patched
>>
The combat is nothing special but imo this game scratches the itch that bioshock failed to scratch. Reviewers don't seem to remember that Bioshock had shit combat as well.
My only complaint with the new Prey is that even on the hardest difficulty near the middle/late game it gets easy as fuck. This is mostly an issue with any game with a leveling system though.
>>
This game is what bioshock wanted to be.

One of my favorite little things in this game is how the story is told through audiologs and emails but unlike most games every name you see in an email or on an audiolog belongs to a character who is actually on the station somewhere, you can look up their name in the database on the ship and go find them. It was a good detail that I feel went a long way in increasing the immersion.
Definitely my GOTY so far. Haven't had singleplayer a game make me want to stay up all night playing like that in a while.
>>
Don't mean to derail discussion but was Dishonored 2 any good? It got a lot of shit when it came out, that's all I remember. Hard to tell if that means anything though because /v/ gives every AAA game shit.
>>
>>378351345
It wasn't bad anon, wasnt GREAT either, but honestly it wasn't memorable either. It passed time.

>>378351345
People were bashing it because it wasn't performing too well on PC at release, but that is not the case anymore. I thoroughly enjoyed the game from start to finish due to how much better the game mechanics were. The story I find it on par with the first one with how it's not really that much of a focus, but more like the background, and the main attraction of the game is in the game systems. And now they made it so you can start a New Game+ with the abilities of the other character too, so it was great to play as Corvo and use Emily's powers.

Also, they hired Stephen Russel to voice Corvo as they should've done from the start.
>>
I think I'm almost at the end and I've spent about 22 hours on hard difficulty so you're at least getting your money's worth on that note.

I used a Russian crack so i have nothing invested in this

Feels like a more open Bioshock game with System Shock inventory. I did a non-Psi non-Typhon neuromod run so i could use turrets but turrets are pretty shit and unreliable.

Overall 8/10 game.
>>
The station never feels like a level. It feels like a set. Each room makes sense, the layout of the ship makes sense, and your progression through the ship makes sense.
The fact that the game is one giant level is a huge achievement. It's the promise of massive open-world games, but on a small enough scale that the devs could built a believable place.
System Shock 2 (and the bioshocks) had this feature, but it really felt like a bunch of levels connected by an elevator. I've never seen a game with a sense of place like this game.

I was kinda hoping for an AI to have been in control of Talos-1, so I just hope Prey 2 takes place aboard a FTL starship controlled by an AI.
>>
>>378347804
If you love SS2, Deus Ex, and Bioshock you'll probably love Prey. Just know that it's got a weak start, but once you get to the lobby, things start rolling.
I see some people complain about bad combat, but I can't really understand as it's a proper action-RPG (which always have semi-crap combat until you start getting more equipment & abilities) rather than an action game with RPG elements.

Protip: Explore lots and do sidequests. Get the neuromod that lets you harvest Typhon organs, as that makes it MUCH easier to craft neuromods.
Also don't get cocky thinking your invincible just because you found the shotgun and crafted 50 shotgun shells.

Yes
>>
>>378351345
Yes, it gets a lot of shit here because of the absolutely abysmal performance issues on launch. Still has some issues, but my 1070 can brute-force through it.
The game itself it's definitely good. Improves on the original in almost every area, and adds its own flavour & theme.

If you're one for non-lethal playthroughs it's definitely an improvement over the original. More non-lethal options and larger, more expansive levels makes non-lethal a lot more viable than in the original.
>>
I got it for 30 bucks on Cdkeys and have enjoyed it so far.

Yeah, it's SS3 basically.

How much is written by Avellone, though? Depending on your answer, I may play the game.
>>
>>378354001
He didn't pen the whole plot, but did give it the shape it got in the end, and worked on sidequests and on supporting characters.
>>
>>378354001
From what I've understood, a lot of the sidequests/side stories that you can find in the station.
They did a bang-up job of making the station feel like a real place where people actually lived & worked.
>>
>>378347804
90 bucks? there is no base game worth 90 bucks.
This is more RPG focused like SS2/DX than Bioshock:
- It has proper inventory
- it has backtracking to finish some obejctives/open new ways in,
- it has (like in DX) a lot of infomation stored in computers (which you usualy have to hack)
- it has areas/ways in that are only accesible with certian skill (heavy object lifting/hacking/repair/mimicry) or/and clever physics use (stacking items to build ladder/use Gloo gun/hit button with some object).

If you liked SS1/2 (and DX) this is as close as you can get currently.
>>
>>378347804
Does time stop when you use the inventory menu?
I like real time menus.

>>
>>378356313

>>
>>378357238
System Shock 1
System Shock 2

The Thief games and Deus Ex games allowed you to access your inventory in real time without having to pause the game.
>>
>>378347804
As a System Shock fan, I'm enjoying it a lot, if you love this kind of games it should quite satisfy you.

Same anon here.
One thing i noticed, that also just happened in game for me, is if for whatever reason you happen to grab a key item or certain amount of supplies from a location before a quest gives it, when it comes up, not only will you be able to complete the quest, but they have additional dialogue praising/ questioning how you would know. It's a small but awesome feature that isn't fleshed out in most new releases. With 3 full playthroughs required to see all the content it's nice to know each experience will yield a different experience.

>>
>>378358001
It's like a cross between 1 and 2, but as seen through Dishonored really. Maybe it could've used different ammo types perhaps, and strange alien weapons like in Shock 2, but otherwise, a stellar start into Arkane's version of SS. Can't wait for a DLC or follow up to this

When you queue up a spell time stops, but if you move your character, time moves with you. So while you are stopped with a spell you can aim and shit, but if you reposition during that spell time will resume
>>
>>378359249
I mean, it makes sense to me for the setting, they won't have rocket launchers in a damn space station for example, but yeah, I agree.

>>378359267
That would be correct if this was a reboot of the other Prey, but it's not. It's safe to say old Prey is dead, and going forward, Prey 2 will be Arkane's followup to their Prey, and it'll be the second game.

Are there any other modern games that are similar to Prey and Dishonored? The kind of game that gives you a lot of choice in how you approach things and there are many ways to complete your objective. Also, not open world and with good level design.

I'm trying to give this game a fair chance watch some videos like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8_M_LdTOes
but holy shit doesn't this game look extremely boring to watch. I heard people comparing it to Dishonored, so I'm not sure, Dishonored had quite a fair share of issues, and the only well done thing in it was level design, and i'm kinda reading the same things, that the game has boring combat but good level design. They should've put a demo of this.

>>
>>378362143
that's not the issue, the gunplay looks really bland, and too many gameplay videos on PC have some retard talking all the time for me to tolerate that shit.

I like SS1 and 2, but Prey2017 really looks like it lacks something, like a gameplay mechanic of its own or so. The whole copying objects thing is just a small gimmick. Even the name "Prey" doesn't help at all, it just sounds like a generic horror movie title, it's still vague as the original injun bootleg doom: the game.
>>
>>378362965
Spoiler obviously:
the more typhon abilities you install the more nightmares will spawn. also turrets will attack you at some point I think.

MD is forgettable as fuck. Not bad but it feels like they didn't really put much effort into it, barely any attempts to fix the issues of HR, much worse characters, feels lazy how they reused Adam. It's skippable tier.

It's no wonder people barely talk about it, it simply is unremarkable as a whole, at its best it just feels like HR 1.5, which isn't enough 5 years after HR was made.

I was actually really hoping for January to pull a Wheatley after having you do things that would lead him to gaining access to the station and ending up with full control, something more akin to that, but then the Apex comes and that would be much more urgent and for game to have had a boss fight against the Apex Typon, and then decide whether or not to blow up the station after realizing your weapons just can't deal enough damage to him.
