I find the story between those two beautiful as they developed pretty much thanks to the love for each other. Shame a good chunk of 2B's backstory was left outside of the game.

This is my real only gripe. Memory Thorn and Cage should have been ingame. Could have even made it that he discovers it by using one of his million gadgets he created.

To be fair it's already an improvement over first Nier where side materials are needed to even understand the fucking setting.

Thorn/Cage should've been a post-game content for beating Emil for example. This would prevent player from learning them too early and get a real reward for pretty much 100% the game.

I like the implications that N2 truly wanted to be friendly towards 9S but simply lacked the ability to emphasize, turning everything into a huge clusterfuck for him.
It tries to be extremely polite, "rewards" him constantly, gives him combat challenges (as it thinks that combat and conflict is a source of evolution), allows him to even meet his deceased love and learn the true meaning of his birth.
