that kind of self-awareness and fourth wall breaking is meant to make you laugh but it just destroys immersion, and I'm not even someone that usually cares about that stuff much. it's just the writer shoving in your face they can't come up with anything quirky or funny in its own right so they just reference something about the game and elbow you in the sides hoping you'll laugh
