I always thought it would be fun if Fable ended up moving all the way into the modern day, since the games were clearly intending to progress through time as we did in the real world.

It'd be interesting to see how the world might progress. Fable in particular would work well for it since the people who possess any significant amount of power are relatively rare, so modern technology would still come about for everyone else. Mystical objects would obviously still have their use, even today so you could have shit like semi-auto weapons but wearing magic plate to protect against spells still makes sense, so you could have this aesthetic that mixes tacticool and unreasonable plate armor with runes and shit.

Also, maybe we'll get a Dark Tower game with the movie. Hopefully they'll give it the Mad Max treatment and release a game based on the property but not the movie.

Urban fantasy is really hard to get right especially in videogames. Because there needs to be something at work preventing everything from getting exposed (in a lot of cases).

I think there's something to be made from a cross between Alpha Protocol and Vampire the Masquerade, the focus is on stealth/conversation/building contacts with people to affect outcomes, with combat used to punctuate that "things have gotten out of hand" or "this thing can't be negotiated with", rather than as the core component of the game.
You're some kind of "human-first" agent, but the organisation gives you lots of wiggle room because on paper they can't abide by getting non-human help, but know it's sometimes necessary.
Throw in magic as a "necessary evil" of the humans in order to keep up, in order to justify why you can shoot a gun in an alleyway and have people just ignore the gunshots.

There's a lot of "interesting" possible mechanics in urban fantasy, but the videogame industry isn't a huge fan of "interesting" and it would require a lot of work, because you'd probably need to fully flesh out the "relationship" system Alpha Protocol had, and turn up the complexity of it all.
