Thoughts on FFX? I know it's got flaws but still remains

Tidus in about everything was trash
blitzball is worthless
Seymour as a villain was so terrible that the final boss was a tiny bug instead of him

Auron and Lulu's lulus were the only good thing.

Probably my personal 3rd favorite FF behind V and VI. The entire run from IV to X (minus VIII) is pretty good.

its a great game honestly, the idea to have a protag from another time/world always works well as a good story reason to have things explained simply so we can follow, its the exact same reason 13s story telling is so fucking terrible, everyone already knows everything so they leave out alot of detail when explaining the world and lore.

I wish FF would go back to that kind of proper turn-based battle system. People complain about "muh rock paper scissors" but that's sure as shit more interesting than the attack attack attack heal attack attack attack that happens in ATB and "action-based" FFs. You've got buffs and debuffs, you've got a turn order list, you've got summons that are fleshed out and not dogshit, you've got on-the-fly character switching, you've got party members with distinct roles, it's all good shit.

When I first played it years ago, it was the tighest shit but recently having gone through it again I find it...average. Not fantastic, having glaring flaws everywhere, but still charming in its own goofy way. That said, I can live my life and be happy knowing I'll never have to do some of those temple dungeons again, and everything involving actually playing blitzball was a mistake.

And use it to kill literally everyone because life is so much easier when you're dead and Spira should stop fighting the spiral of death. Which is stupid by the way. If you're dead then you either pass on to the Farplane or live in purgatory as a monster until someone kills you again.

It's one thing where it's the SNES or the PS1 where it's janky enough where you don't care. But the PS2 was the first time consoles could strive for expressive models during normal gameplay. And it made Seymore's hair really stand out

X and X-2 are the last real Final Fantasy games, with X-2 having the greatest battle system of all time.

I think the best scene was the Macalania lake scene. Not for the kiss but for the scene just before it. After being betrayed by the whole world Teedus gives Yuna an out. Just quit. Go home. Follow me to my Zanarkand. And Yuna sounds legit hopeful about a life free of the Pilgrimage. And then she just hangs her head and cries.

At that point I understood Yuna's character and the summoners in general. Yevon and the pilgrimages are their entire life. They can't even conceive a life without it. And even though she has no reason to help any of these people she's going to do it anyway because that's all she knows. Another smaller scene was good too. When everyone is brainstorming how to kill Sin without the Final Aeon. And Yuna laments that she can't even think of a means of hurting Sin because she knows nothing outside of Yevon and that she feels so useless.

The only simple answer is that Tidus was willed in the world by the spirits of the dead of his time because he was famous and many people remember him. Altough it does contradict with the intro scene where Auron brings Tidus to Spira.

Only explanation would be that Auron was already dead, led Tidus to his death, knowing that he would be "reborn" in Spira.

The thing is: How did Jecht get to Spira years before Sin appeared? I mean, Jecht was Sin when he attacked the past.

Maybe i'm missing something here or can't remember but, overall FFX was a pretty chill game. Played it multiple times. Still couldn't get me to grind stuff to beat all the Black Aeons without Yojimbo after this many years.

FFX-2 was alright. Unnecessary, but still played it for the sake of playing a FF game.

Replayed it not too long ago in the HD release. Boy it wasn't what I remembered it being. It was pretty fucking dull honestly and I couldn't believe how high the fucking encounter rate was. It was maddening. The battle system is still fun but nonactive party members getting nothing was obnoxious and I hate every game that does this. Swapping people out for one action every round just so everyone was leveled got old fast. Post game shit fucking sucks and even just getting ultimate weapons sucks too. Too much minigame bullshit and not actual QUESTS. X-2 was even worse with that aspect but I liked the job system and combat better in that game.

Well I can see what they were going for. Teedus and Yuna need each other for their development. Without Teedus, Yuna would've made it to the end, died, and nothing would've changed. Without Yuna, Teedus would've just died or been imprisoned and he would've cried about it. But Yuna's admiration of Jecht gave Teedus the strength to grow and protect the woman he loves. And Teedus's love for Yuna made Yuna put her faith in him and her guardians and start questioning the teachings of Yevon for the first time in her life

I've tried playing through it a few times over the years. Once in 2011, one more time in 2011, and then later in 2013 or 2014. I got as far as Yunalesca in my latest attempt, but stopped.

As someone who had previously played FFXIII, I didn't see why that game got so much hatred while FFX had most of the same "problems."

Because Zanarkand and Bevelle were at war and Zanarkand was getting fucked by Bevelle's machina. Yu Yevon was Zanarkand's greatest summoner and he couldn't bear to watch Zanarkand die. So he sacrificed EVERYBODY to summon two things. A copy of Zanarkand and an aeon that no one could stop to protect it. The Dream Zanarkand was put out to sea where no one could get to it and Sin just started destroying Bevelle. But the summoning drove Yu Yevon crazy and he and Sin went from protecting Zanarkand to killing everybody
