Why is the dock $90? Does it have extra technology inside to boost the Switch graphics?
>>
>>378224846
Yup.
>>
>>378224846
Nintendo is the apple of children toys.
>>
>>378225184
What is the technology that boosts the Switch graphics?
>>
Yeah, but you have to buy the Switch Dock Performance Booster Juice seperately. 30$ for a 6ml bottle that will last you about 30 hours of playtime.
>>
>>378225270
There isn't any, its all about battery life when undocked. Graphics go down to save battery.

(You)
>>
Nintend knows their hardcore fans will buy anything as long as they splash their logo on it. Its an overpriced piece of hardware, like everything Switch related. Its fucking digusting to watch
>>
Did the switch not come with a dock?
>>
>>378225515
I don't know, Nintendo sold handhelds without chargers in the past.
>>
>>378224846

>macfags have to buy a dongle for ports
>girlfriends laptop has all ports built in normally

Holy shit people are retarded
>>
>>378225605
They still do, I mean, my N3DS didn't come with one, so I guess they didn't at least 1 year ago
>>
>>378225758
Third world tier androids come with chargers. Defend this shit nintendo shitters
>>
wait wait wait do you mean to tell me that electronics companies don't sell their products AT COST?
>>
Does the apple adapter work on the switch?
I don't see why it wouldn't other than Nintendo somehow including a lock out for third party adapters

I might buy one if it does, so I don't have to risk the screen scratching with the dock. Plus it would fit easily in the switch carrying case so you can easily use a buddy's tv for tv mode.
>>
>>378226030
are you implying nintendo is an electronic company? are you implying that other companies sell their products at 600% markup like nintendo does?
>>
>>378225934
Isn't it because of some EU law or some shit
>>
>>378224846
The dock is literally just a charger for the Switch and a HDMI cable put into a plastic box.
>>
>>378226030
Not an argument. Nobody is asking them to sell at cost
>>
>>378225934
The explanation has been around for ages.
>>
>>378224846
Because it has the Nintendo logo
>>
>>378226202
If it's that simple let's see you do it.

it's supply and demand that cause these prices, it's clearly more valuable than you seem to give it, especially since a whole thread was made about it. If people don't need this product that badly, the price will adjust to that need
>>
>>378226143
Basically since EU doesn't like consumers getting fucked in the ass, there's a law for which selling a product with a proprietary charger is forbidden.
Nintendo instead of using a normal charger like everyone else just sold the proprietary charger separately.
>>
>>378225270
It allows the console to function at full power.
>>
>>378225270
A literal HDMI cable
>>
>>378226126
>other than Nintendo somehow including a lock out for third party adapters
really makes u think
would a company truly go out of their way to limit consumers choice and keep them locked in into their ecosystem?
i do not know familia
>>
>>378226126
>I might buy one if it does, so I don't have to risk the screen scratching with the dock
You could avoid that with a simple female/male USB-C cable.
Or, you could put a piece of cloth in front of the screen as you slide it in, although you should remove it afterwards.

Anyways, it doesn't work, I think Nintendo did encrypt the signal.
>>
>>378226463
I don't understand how thats protecting consumers when it forces the company to sell the product in two parts. Jewery
>>
>>378224846
>Why
Ask Nintendo. Nobody here knows why and all you'll get is shitpposting.
>>
>>378226754
Because most companies will suck it up and just use a non-proprietary charger.
>>
>>378226754
Well, it worked, so go figure it out.
>>
>>378226748
Ah, that's what i was thinking,
I use a micro fabric clothe on the dock, but im still kinda paranoid, i have a screen protector nd everything, i just really hate screen scratches.
>>
>>378224846

it's because it's a well tested piece of hardware with Nintendo's guaranteed Seal of Quality
>>
The Switch has special encryption meaning the only way to hook it up to the TV is by using the proprietary dock. Third-party docks won't work unfortunately.
>>
>includes dock
>ac adapter
>hdmi cable

found the missing 70 dollars
>>
>>378227308
I know you're joking, but they are selling that AC adapter for 30.

That's an expensive wall wart and HDMI cable
>>
>>378226458
>If it's that simple let's see you do it.
the OP pic literally has another company's similar product for $17
>>
>>378226754
If other companies pulled the same shit, nobody would buy their products. Nintendo pulled it off because its fanbase will literally take anything, like a 90$ charger+ hdmi cable.
>>
>>378227610
A similar product that lacks 2 USB ports, a cable and an AC adapter.
>>
>>378227667
You realize no one needs to buy the dock, right? It comes with the Switch.

It's still a shitty move, but not quite the level of shit you're describing.
>>
>>378225270
I don't know exactly what the specifics are, but it's like adding on some extra processing power or graphics and shit to allow better frame rates and cleaner gameplay.
>>
>>378225515
>>378225605
Nah the switch comes with a dock. They sell separate ones for people to lazy to unplug the dock every know and then. Or if they break it.
>>
>>378227812
It doesn't though. The dock does nothing.
Stop spreading this bullshit already.
>>
>>378227812
That is only because the console is connected to a power source rather than relying on the battery. It's confirmed, I think even officially, that the dock does nothing more.
>>
>>378226126
Nope. Just go with the dock.

Or if worried about scratching, I think there's some custome made ones online. Or tutorials on fixing it up to not scratch.

Just get the upper one, duh, why do you need a piece of shit that will scratch your console anyway?
>>
>>378227953
There is stuff inside of it. Look at the videos were they tear them apart.

In my opinion it should be around 50 bucks, but the switch comes with one from the start, so that's not really a issue.
>>
>>378228207
It's a really simple PCB that does nothing but pass the signal to the HDMI port and read the USB hubs.
It's basically the same thing OP posted.
>>
>>378228157
Jesus I thought we were over this.

The switch does not scratch your dock, unless you put it in backwards or slam that shit. It's been almost 3 months now and I've still yet to receive a single scratch from it. Not even when I dropped the thing.

And even if it did, you can solve the probes with a 5 dollar cloth. Big deal.
>>
>>378228207
Yes, it has an adapter merges 3 USB ports, an HDMI cable and a USB-C port into a single USB-C port. That's it.
>>
>does it have extra technology inside
>>
>>378225270
The dock components emmits a signal that tells the console it is in the dock which boosts the power to 100% as opposed to what ever handheld mode is. Not worth 90 usd though.
>>
>>378228494
>Doesn't show the PCB
>>
>>378228382
Some people have reported bent docks though. I wouldn't be surprised all of the scratches are caused by very slightly bent docks that the users didn't notice are bent.
Although, anyone without a screen protector on their Switch is an idiot, dock scratches or no.
>>
>>378227953
uh actually it provides stable mains to allow the system to work at a higher clock. Also houses basically the equivalent of a south bridge I wouldn't exactly call that nothing.

Shut the fuck up faggot, Mine is scratching and I still have my o3ds in pristine condition (except for the upper screen scratches that are a design defect too)

You pick the one photo were they literally take out the circuit board.

Here's a (you)
>>
>>378228560
A small circuit board is not worth $90.
>>
>>378228560
The PCB is all off the shelves components. Ben Heck did a teardown a while ago. It's nothing impressive.
The only thing Nintendo had to design is the lockout chip/encryption algorithm to prevent third party docks from working.
>>
>>378228580
Sorry I didn't speak literally, I meant it as a response to his "it powers up the Switch with extra processing".
>>
>>378228621
I'm not wrong tho

smart enough not to scratch my switch on the dock somehow anyway
>>
>>378225515
>Did the switch not come with a dock?

It does, but nobody wants to use it since it scratches your screen. So we all get some cheap third party one that does the same job.
>>
>>378228621
How? Like this literally boggles me. What are you doing to get this. Do you have a photo or something?

None one I know has had a issue. Plenty have people have proved popular photos of scratches to be fake.

What the fuck is it that your doing to cause so much scratching for it to be a problem?

Post a photo of your console then if the dock fucked it up so much.

And there has been plenty of videos disproving it, but to people like you it's never enough.

People like you need to Nintendo Switch the light on in your head and stop acting worse than the toddlers who use the console .
>>
>>378229007
>There's something there, I tried to use it by hooking the AC to my laptop and it detected that, sooo
Probably a small chip that tells the switch to stop underclocking the processor
>>
>>378229134
Actually, it's 60 if you go to their website and buy just the dock direct from Nintendo. The 90 dollar set includes an HDMI cable and AC adapter. Still bullshit though.
>>
>>378229134
Wtf? You can get a decent mATX motherboard for that price. That thing is worth $10 at most.
>>
>>378229214
That's not how USB-C work you dingus.
Switch detects there is a usb-c Hub that can handle video, power and some usb devices thus it disable image on local screen and send video through it.

>>378229117

Really? Do you have another AC power to USB-C cable hanging around your place? Be honest.
>>
>>378228843
That just takes you to a screen telling you to pay $50 to allow software from other sources.
Something the vast majority of people won't do.
>>
>>378225265

If we're being truly honest, Nintendo's intense focus on selling peripherals is older than Apple even.
>>
>>378229372
no but again, it can tell when you aren't using AC power, specifically.
>>
>>378224846
The same reason the Switch is $299

Nintendo literally pretending that they're offering premium technology that they worked extremely hard to engineer.

Anyone who buys a switch for more than $169 is a retard who got memed on by Nintendo playing pretend.

>>378229331
>$10
Ayy lmao, usb-c isn't just a cable you moron, go back to bed gramps, get with the times
>>
>>378229405
The AC adapter provides more power to the system than the battery can.
When docked the Switch doesn't have to run the screen which removes a source of heat and has enough power to run its cooling fan more frequently.
>>
>>378229270
>The 90 dollar set includes an HDMI cable and AC adapter.
hdmi cable and ac adapter costs 50 cents to manufacture in china. i get them free on chinese sites all the time.
>>
>>378229631
...but I'm pretty sure you can use any AC to USB cord, not just Nintendo's. Honestly, it's been pretty great in that regard and the switch supports open standards (USBA/C, HDMI, SD) when it makes sense. And the cords themselves are pretty nice
>>
>>378229596
Right now, sure. But will that still be the case once Microsoft finishes killing off Windows 7 in another few years?
>>
>>378229765
>50 cents to manufacture in china
Show me a 50 cent chinese USB-C Power adapter, Cmon, I will wait.
>>
>>378229716
yeah as of, like, a week ago.

So that's great, I'm getting a bunch of other cables with the thing that should be futureproof and are of pretty good quality :D
>>
>>378229716
>Apple

Yeah that dongle sure is worth the asking price.
>>
It has a power source and vent so the switch can turn the processor and GPU to maximum speed whereas they're limited in portable mode for battery life

Really though you're just buying a brick with a USB-C port into HDMI and Two USB ports
>>
>>378229961
