Getting geared in this game isn't hard. On your way to level 56 you get upgrade stones out the ass and free money. Competent PVP gear will cost you less than 50k to buy without upgrading. If you want to skip the upgrades people are even selling high-rated gear too. And if you really want it easy, there are guilds who love to recruit new players and help them get geared up.

Whales can rely on their wallets to put them higher but other players can have it just as easy because they're usually not so braindead they have to throw more money into the game to get ahead.

That's honestly horseshit. Loyalties, which you get ever day, also increase your weight limit. You can also just grind weight limit by carrying packs. Weight limit isn't a big deal and it's honestly a waste of money.

Pets are also a convinience. Even at the max amount of 4 pets out, the rate at which they autoloot at is at 1 corpse per second if you consider that they have a 4 second cooldown each, minus the time they require to get to the corpse. A player can autoloot 5 corpses within 1 second by just spamming R. They are a convinience to stop spamming R, but I have 4 pets as well and I find myself often just looting everything myself because its too slow. If I could, I would refund them.

This is idiotic, having actually played the game it's well known an UPGRADED Liverto is the bare minimum for consistently being able to hit other people due to the vastly superior accuracy over green weapons.

That's 8-10 mil without buying extras required for repeated upgrade failures. Upgrading a liverto to +15 can cost quite a bit as well, it cost me 150 mil and buying a fully upgraded version was not an option since staves were extremely popular at the time. My upgrade was well beyond the average price of upgrading to +15 but I mention it because it's still possible to have that kind of rotten luck. I usually hear from guild members that a DUO Liverto is the bare minimum for PVP, which would cost a good chunk more.

To sum up, here's what is bullshit about BDO as a game.

>VPs seemingly have no buy limit in the cash shop, and no substantial sell limit on the marketplace. Nobody talks about this because Daum labeled Costumes as the P2W boogeyman from the beginning. A whale does not care whether it's a bad deal money wise because a whale likes the game enough to spend the money knowing they will get silver. Silver speeds up progression by a huge amount, especially if you can get it with minimal time spent (i.e VP selling and not grinding).

>The horse breeding is a huge, massive waste of time where skill resets (a cash shop item) are the best and most time-efficient way of getting the horse skills you want. Also getting to higher tiers sucks because horses can't breed unlimited times. T8s are extremely rare in NA/EU whereas Korea is flooded with them due to an ingame mechanic that makes it easier to find higher tier horses in the wild.

>Artisan's Memories massively reduce the cost of upgrading any weapon. Instead of spending 24m on 3 livertos to gain 30 durability you can just spend something like 50 real cents and one liverto to do the same. This makes going for higher tier upgrades much easier than it would normally be, although you will still need ingame Silver to keep trying (this is where you buy Value Packs to sell on the marketplace for more Silver).

How is the gear variety in this game? I was playing the free trial and got my wizard to 20ish or something. Got like 500,000 gold thanks to the daily reward things and using the auction house system. I actually kinda liked doing a bunch of quests to learn more about a town and its history, unlocking new conversation options and stuff.

Been playing it over the last few days and its the best MMO I've played in a long time.

The storyline is gone, the lore is butchered, the classes have no semblance of balance, the world bosses and servers get worse by each "update" and your character will look 100% like trash unless you spend 30 extra bucks on a costume that is then bound to that character forever. That is aside from the 10-30 other bucks you will have to spend on pets.
Only to realize you will always lose to the current overpowered class on even grounds, and when not in even grounds, whoever got the RNG drop of the month will just two-three shot you.

Oh, and 90% of the world map is entirely pointless and have nothing to do in them after you ran past them for your average on-rails quests.

The issue here is in what you are comparing the game to. Sure it can't hold a candle to DMC3 or Bayonetta but it doesn't have to because it doesn't compete with those games. No matter how you slice it, BDO has the best combat in the genre simply because the combat doesn't consist of pressing the same 5 hotkeys while your character auto attacks then moving out of the big red no no zone when the enemy finally attacks. Traditional MMO combat is just garbage.

The game is not "broken" because the classes are different. The game is broken because gear has 95% of the say in the outcome and when not, there's two classes that can grieviously abuse stunlocking and auto-aiming skills.
There's a fucking plethora of things that can be done in order to balance something properly while keeping variety.
And even if you can't reach a total even ground, you can certainly make it far less obscene than Black Desert's "enjoy getting a wizard/DK up your ass this evening."
