there's a lot of different reasons for it but it's not like they're an incredible tool that make typing on regular keyboards impossible

that being said, there's a distinct difference. they're usually sturdier, more responsive, and have more distinct feedback/actuation/travel time when compared to 99% of rubber dome keyboards

The only legitimate reason to own a mechanical keyboard its because if you dumped 2 grand in a computer you don't want to be using a $10 dell keyboard. That's it.
There are no tangible performance benefits, just subjective bullshit and theories based on how the model M performed.

Why would you drive a car worth 100 grand when you can get where you need to go using a 1000 dollar clunker? Same thing with mechanical keyboards, though not nearly as big of a price difference. They are nicer to use and feel great, are generally more sturdy, customizable, etc, but entirely unnecessary. That said, these days you can get decent mechanical for ~50 bucks or so, not exactly a big price jump anymore.

Also part of the reason, at least for me, is nostalgia. I first used computers with a model m keyboard, a unique mechanical keyboard.

Currently owned for 3 months now and absolutely love it. A step up from my mxcherry black switch keyboard i used for several years.
Blues feel so good. Not a fan of the blue backlight and despise it, thankfully it has the option to turn off.

ITT poorfags try to feel superior for using $10 Wal-Mart keyboards. I bet you fags still use 720p monitors too.

My friend owns one of these and it's so goddamn noisy. CLICK CLICK CLICK all the time. And in my opinion it doesn't feel great either but everyone's different I guess. I'll never understand how you can put up with the clicking though.

Red or brown with damper rings is nice and quiet and feels great

Some streamer was using a cherry blue mechanical keyboard and I liked the sound of it and bought the same model. This was four years ago and every key still works. Some key on a rubber dome keyboard would have gave out already.
