they feel nice to type on

there's a lot of different reasons for it but it's not like they're an incredible tool that make typing on regular keyboards impossible

that being said, there's a distinct difference. they're usually sturdier, more responsive, and have more distinct feedback/actuation/travel time when compared to 99% of rubber dome keyboards
>>
Topre > Cherry MX

I play platformers better with one as well as other keyboard heavy games

Might be placebo but I don't think so

They just feel fucking nice. If I'm gonna be on my pc for 12 hours a day damn right I'm going to splerge on a nice chair, keyboard, and mouse. Nothing insanely expensive, but more than the average /v/ user who just uses shitass lawnchairs and office chairs from garage sales.
>>
>>378172994
you're not taking into account that people on this board are poor retards who think a $20 keyboard is good enough, or they just steal one from their school or parents
they seem to ignore the fact that you can get a decent mechanical keyboard for $50 that is better than any rubberdome
>>
Probably placebo effect.

My first computer was the Family Macintosh Quadra. It was an Apple Extended 2 Keyboard which was mechanical. I just like it.

Tactile feedback. You kids that grew up with touchscreens wouldn't understand.

It's like telling an oil painter to switch to a stylus and ipad. There's no feedback. It feels completely alien. Just smooth, frictionless nothing. It has no soul. It's not talking to you, and telling you about every little ridge in the canvas. Same thing for mechanical keyboards. If you grew up with a stylus or a touch screen, you just wouldn't get it.
>>
>>378173415
You do know that there are multiple different switches to choose from, right? Not all of them are loud and clicky like blues.

>>
All the people here talking about "feels better" or faster response times, or NKRO or typing speed or durability are fucking liars and idiots.
The only legitimate reason to own a mechanical keyboard its because if you dumped 2 grand in a computer you don't want to be using a $10 dell keyboard. That's it.
There are no tangible performance benefits, just subjective bullshit and theories based on how the model M performed.
>>
Why would you drive a car worth 100 grand when you can get where you need to go using a 1000 dollar clunker? Same thing with mechanical keyboards, though not nearly as big of a price difference. They are nicer to use and feel great, are generally more sturdy, customizable, etc, but entirely unnecessary. That said, these days you can get decent mechanical for ~50 bucks or so, not exactly a big price jump anymore.

Also part of the reason, at least for me, is nostalgia. I first used computers with a model m keyboard, a unique mechanical keyboard.

Because I prefer the audio-tactile feedback from typing that certain mechanical keyboards have compared to dome-switch or membrane keyboards.
I grew up typing on a Model-M at home, and it just feels "wrong" to type on anything that doesn't give a satisfying "clack" feel and sound.

Linear mechanical keyboards (reds & blacks) are meaningless desu, Browns are acceptable if you don't want to be noisy.
>>
there is non-mechanical keyboards with no key press limits
>>
>>378172108
>have a das Ultimate Brown Switches, bought it 5 years ago still hasn't failed me once.
Its fun to type on
the tactile feel is soo satisfying when typing long documents
i can argue that for gaming its kinda mediocre, but i also have razer game pad thing, the Orbweaver, that has mechanical switches, and has a much more noticeable click, which is great when playing fps games and such.

Blues are good for gaming
Browns are good for typing
the reason people spend money on this shit is because it makes using a computer more Tactile.

They feel much better to type on. That's the big reason why they are worth it. If you are a loser shut in who spends hours every single day on the computer, why not spend the money to make those keys you are going to hit tens of thousands of times more comfortable. no, just that people should be making more things in general. some people become very fixated on buying things to pass the time. they spend their time reviewing different items, picking out the best one, talking about the items on forums, buying different ones, just a whole bunch of energy devoted to buying shit and "appreciating" it. mechanical keyboards and headphones are two main areas this happens in. check the forums, you'll find people who have 5+ different keyboards/headphones and they're still looking for "the one".

Also, there are good non-mechanical keyboards that I'm happy to use, but mechanicals in general have a nicer feel to them. It's impossible to quantify, but just because something's subjective and ethereal doesn't make it less important in a purchasing decision.

I spend 12+ hours a day at my keyboard. From working to gaming. I'm a programmer; I type for a living. I type more in a day than you'll type this year you little shits.

To say a mechanical keyboard has no impact on your productivity is a fucking lie. I would NEVER return to a standard keyboard. When I've had to get onto another associate's or family member's computer, I go crazy. You simply cannot knock it until you've used one.

My $140 dasKeyboard was worth every single cent. Years later it still looks and feels as crisp as day one.

I share this "authority" and I disagree with you, so yes, your argument is invalid. You can say that you have a personal preference for them, but leave your childish objective claims at the door. And stop spacing your posts like a retard, I'd hate to read any code you write if you think this is acceptable formatting.

In a previous mechanical keyboard thread a anon recommended this Tomoko mechanical keyboard as a cheap keyboard without all the obnoxious glowy-lights. I want to thank that anon. I'm loving my purchase so far.

>have Razer chroma keyboard and mouse
>hear all the shit talking about Razer stuff
I dunno, I really enjoy mine, and they haven't broken after years. Just really pretty and comfy. Inb4 hurr shill. I dunno, maybe there's better stuff out there, but I like mine a lot.
>>
>>378183983
you say this shit because you probably never ever owned anything that isn't Razer
I used to be like that too, until I bought something actually good that wasn't extremely overpriced
Razer keyboards all use cheap chink switches, have shit keycaps and look awful, but they're still expensive because idiots don't know any better

I got my corsair keyboard, I think it's a k20 or something I don't fucking know, because it was surplus or a return or something and was half off, making it the best bang for my buck at the time. I don't use anything from the accompanying utilities program for it, other than lights on it so that's neat I guess. I wouldn't have bought it at full price though.

>>378184121
I've had a pretty wide variety of PC stuff over time. Honestly razer stuff feels the most comfy and lasts the longest. Maybe I just have weird luck and weirder preferences.

Why did Beats sell so well? Why are apple products so successful? People just hear something expensive is better and buy it without considering if it's true.
>>
>>378172108
I had a regular keyboard, but I couldn't press 3 buttons at one time. Mechanical keyboards eliminate that.
>>
>>378185486
Mechs are objectively better than membranes
Beats are not objectively better than other equal or lesser priced headphones

This isn't really a fair comparison unless you're specifically looking at meme gaymurr RGB keyboards or something
>>
>>378185337
What you really mean is that you have shit taste and you fall for the "gaming" marketing meme.

It has knockoff cherry mx blue switches. The keycaps it comes with could be better, but I had good extra keycaps from a previous broken keyboard so it wasn't that big of an issue. It says its water resistant, but I'd rather not find out if it is. I spent $39 on it. That's pretty good if you ask me.

It's true, i bought a mechanical keyboard and my k:d went through the roof! I also gained 10 words per minute average typing speed. Thanks mechanical keyboards!

Placebo effect due to buyer's remorse. It HAS to feel good, I spent X amount on it.

Please explain to me how keys with lighter presses and not as harsh of a bump wouldn't feel better

Not him but are your hands literally plastic?

It's accurate though, typing doesn't get better or faster with mechanical keyboards, if you're a shitter with a regular keyboard you won't get better with a mechanical one.

>Thing A feeling better than Thing B means Thing B must be unbearable
A small energy difference in something you do literally thousands of times a day really adds up
You can get basic mechs for not that much more than a memebrane keyboard, I don't understand why people foam at the mouth with autism over them like this

Cry about overpriced "gaming keyboards" with 9 billion unnecessary bells and whistles, not mechanicals themselves

Why so dickish, anon? I've tried different things and I like the razer stuff I've bought the best. I've tried a handful of the things elitists like you said were the Best and honestly they didn't feel as nice to my hands.
>>
>>378186861
>didn't feel as nice to my hands
I doubt you actually tried anything that isn't gaming branded, but regardless, all that means is that you do have shit taste. You can get the same chink plastic Razer uses on their boards for half the price if that's what you really like about them, all without the edgy gamer look, but I guess that's also shit you like.

They're better than membrane for rhythm games

Currently owned for 3 months now and absolutely love it. A step up from my mxcherry black switch keyboard i used for several years.
Blues feel so good. Not a fan of the blue backlight and despise it, thankfully it has the option to turn off.

ITT poorfags try to feel superior for using $10 Wal-Mart keyboards. I bet you fags still use 720p monitors too.

My friend owns one of these and it's so goddamn noisy. CLICK CLICK CLICK all the time. And in my opinion it doesn't feel great either but everyone's different I guess. I'll never understand how you can put up with the clicking though.

By not buying a board with blue switches.
Red or brown with damper rings is nice and quiet and feels great
>>
>>378172108
Some streamer was using a cherry blue mechanical keyboard and I liked the sound of it and bought the same model. This was four years ago and every key still works. Some key on a rubber dome keyboard would have gave out already.
