more confy but the dungeons are a HUGE step backwards from P5.

P3 > P5 > P4

So make sure you play 3 afterwards.

I think 4 is the better game. I couldn't lay down that game but in 5 I;m pretty bored, probably due to story pacing. Persona 4's theme of admitting to your true self is also something I can relate more to than to break the chains imposed by society (which they handled very subtle in 5). The dungeons in 4 suck though compared to 5 but the soundtrack is superior;

If you're going backwards anyway, I'd say play 3 and then 4. Going from 5 to 4 may make 4 seem a little dated in comparison, but going from 5 to 4 and then 3 lady will make 3 feel REALLY, REALLY dated. I love 3 so I say get it out of the way first.

Social sim stuff (basically everything outside of dungeons) is better in 4. Not by much, but it's definitely better. Meanwhile everything inside dungeons is much worse in 4. Combat, level design, variety is all worse. Still enjoyable but nothing close to 5's dungeons.

Your feelings will probably depend on why you like the games. Like everyone else said, 5 had by far the best dungeons and combat. I like the social links in 3 the most though and I think some of 4's social links are good and some are really bad.

If you like Persona 5 for the combat and dungeons then consider playing another SMT game like Nocturne, SMT4, or Digital Devil Saga. All of the games are good, they just each have different things they focus on that make them good

There's a pretty stupid moment in the Gamer dungeon where an easily missed item is required to unlock the door to the dungeon boss, so there's that. The boss himself is way more annoying than any of the non-optional bosses in P5 as well, so good luck.

Space Station didn't bother me. The castle and bank were worse imo. Castle was terrible and the only bad dungeon in the game.

4 dungeons are basically Mementos. Randomly generated with simple layouts.

Fair enough. I like the little animations the party does when they summon Personas in 3 and 4, but that's a personal thing.

Ehhh...if anything, I like the way Persona 2 did it more. It's basically impossible to screw up negotiation in 5 unless you get way too greedy. Then again, you can spam the same action in P2 to get the result you want 90% of the time, so eh. I feel like it broke the flow of battle a little too often in P5, but that's a nitpick.

These are genuinely cool things, but I feel like there's one too many cases where they're either under-utilized or make battles too easy. Like, with the exception of Oshima, baton pass is never a thing in boss battles, and swapping party members makes strategy a little less tense in some cases. There's others where it is used well though, so fair's fair.

I miss the dizzy system and party synergy from 4 though, not to mention the simplification of element types, and the guarantee with light and dark kills on enemies with the weakness.

Pretty sure Persona 3 Portable works on the PSTV. There's some debate as to whether it or P3 FES is the better game though. They both emulate very well on PPSSPP and PCSX2.

Agreed on everything except the last point. As a person who doesn't even mind Tartarus that much, I don't see how you can think completely procedurally generated Tartarus floors are better than 4's mostly procedurally generated floors + variety in setting and music. It's a good thing FES lets you play other music in Tartarus because the song gets old after a while and some of the blocks in Tartarus get really tiring to spend time in like the all-gold Tziah block.

Agree on combat. 4 has by far the best music, with 5's being the worst. 3 has the best story but 4's is better than 5's. 5's dungeons are best but no way in hell are 4's worst than Tartaru.
