What do you think of the Heretic/Hexen series? Do you think it should return?
>>
I'd kill for a new Hexen.
>>
I'd kill for Hexen to no longer exist.
>>
FPS + Fantasy is an interesting mix, but they'd just complain they're Dark Souls clones or something if they dug them out of the grave they lie in. To be fair that's probably how they'd re-envision them in an era where SHOOTANS all became cover-based instead of GOTTAGOFAST running all over avoiding projectiles like DOOMguy.

>Isekai where DOOMguy is magically transported to an alternate world, and the first thing he does is pick up the nearest weapon and begin REMOVING DEMON and wiping out the Serpent Riders
>>
>>378150287
not without the original devs, no. and even then most devs who pumped out classics a long time ago suck rancid shitdick these days.
it's as if there was an accident with the large hadron collider at CERN and it ripped open a parallel universe where everything sucks and went to shit and we are living in it now.

Now why would you want that?
>>

I miss the Barenstain Bears universe. It wasn't shitty and put out a lot of great games.
>>
>>378151245
Because Hexen was a button simulator that everyone keeps telling me to replay over and over, yet I hate it more every time I do such. I can't find happiness in my world as I keep getting asked to play Hexen again.
>>
>>378151386
Replay Heretic to wash the Hexen taste out of your mouth.

that webum doesn't include the second half where you wander around the now empty level trying to find a button then trying to find what that button actually did.

Well considering Hexen is not Doom and more akin to, say, Metroid, I don't see how that is a negative.
>>
>>378151668
Not sure if this is what you're after but this is the best updated version of Winnowing Hall I've heard.

https://a.pomf.cat/gnryca.ogg

Hexen's music was fucking great.
>>
>>378151465
Indeed, Heretic was better. Often what I do when people aren't telling me to play Hexen again.
>>378151536
That corridor. That is Deathkings, isn't it? While I torture myself with Hexen, I refuse to ever play more Deathkings after the hell I endured.

Wish I could have pity about your favorite game not existing. But everyone let my favorite game series die when it had so much potential. An eye for an eye, I say.
>>
>>378152131
Yes it's Deathkings, which was even better than the base game I might add.

>But everyone let my favorite game series die when it had so much potential
My favorite series, Heretic/Hexen, is dead too, since 1998. Eye for an eye implies my favorite is somehow responsible for yours being dead, which isn't true.
>>
>>378152042
Sounds pretty dope, where is that from?
>>
>>378152464
Fair enough. So what killed Hexen?
>>
>>378151386
kill yourself retard
>>
>>378152960
Activision, as it were. They bought Raven, cashed in on the Heretic and Hexen names and created Hexen 2 and Heretic 2, sequel that never meant to happen, and then ditch the series when they were as popular as the first two games.

The third game in the Serpent Rider trilogy was supposed to be a game called Hecatomb.
>>
>>378153087
>weren't as popular
>>
People that dislike Hexen are low T morons that should stay away from actual dungeon crawlers filled with traps and mazes where you have to draw your own maps.
>>
>>378150287
>Activision owns ravensoft

Leave them alone.
>>
>>378150287
>Do you think it should return?
no. itd just be nudooms linear ass levels with nothing but enemy spawner rooms with a skyrim skin
>>
>>378150287
The games are great and pretty underrated these days. I wouldn't mind seeing it return but it needs to be done right. I wouldn't want to see the games lose their dark atmosphere or have some modern political trendy garbage shoved into it for lame reasons.

Hexen can easily work as a first person Dark/Demon's Souls type game. Especially since Hexen did the hub world stuff before the Souls games.
>>
>>378153087
I am sorry for your loss. It seems any time a company does well, they get bought by a big publisher, then it all falls apart. It sounds like you guys were cheated out of the great third part of the trilogy. While it has caused me a lot of pain, I find it terrible that this had to happen to such a popular series.
>>
Heretic is a competent and very enjoyable clone of Doom.
Hexen is good but feels incomplete. Properly polished, this could've been a ongoing series.

Hexen 2 was great. Raven's early 2000s games were great as well.

I don't think the levels, weapons, and enemies are good enough. Heretic and Doom did it a lot better.
>>
>>378154167
Hexen is better than Heretic on all of those fronts. Looks like someone couldn't even get past the seven portals.
>>
>>378150287
Stoping asking us what we want beth
>>
>>378150287
Devs can't pull off the ridiculous level of detail that went into Heretic. Sad.
>>
>>378154167
Can't say I agree, honestly. Hexen felt very polished to me and it feels like a lot of thought was given to its level design, weapon balance, which is spot on I must say, and enemy designs.
>>
>>378154584
Zenimax/Bethesda/id have no claim to this series.

Heretic/Hexen were a joint Raven-id property. since both are split up under different publishers, the series is dead.

Honestly, when id jumped ship away from Activision , raven, rogue (splash damage?) and xatrix (nerve?) should have all gone too, then turned into their own large publisher.
>>
>>378154047
I'll wait for it.
>>
>>378155113
The ip belonged to Raven, they just used id's engines. Though Romero did help work on the games, that is true.

One thing Heretic does better is make better use of its bestiary. Hexent echnically has more enemy types but you only see Wendigos in the beginning of the game and Reivers at the end. That's one thing Deathkings fixed. The enemy variety is there but Raven opted to stick those enemies in thematically appropriate areas, for better or for worse.
