I'd be excited but I'm an elitist who dislikes MHX/XX because it promotes bad hunting habits. It also removed the one best features from 4U that gives it infinite replay and the best loot in the game.

I think the main concern is why should Monhun be on the home console at all. I know the West is big on home consoles, but this is a Japanese game, as its popularity and main fanbase is predicated on the bonding of in-person social interaction and camaraderie of the hunt. I think it's kind of offensive, no less than spitting at Capcom's face, to demand Capcom prioritize a home console version when the local co-op play is the main appeal of Monhun and Capcom has practically developed a culture around it.

That being said, I wouldn't mind at all cross platform online play with home consoles and handhelds.

It was rendered at a higher resolution, but the textures were all garbage. The Wii U version ran at a lower framerate than the 3DS version. The hunter and monster textures were blurry as fuck and they couldn't be bothered to bring the lighting back.

I had Tri and 3U on both WiiU and 3DS, and the Wii U version was easily the worst experience.

It's never going to happen. Monster Hunter is extremely niche, and simply porting the game would do nothing to attract western gamers to it because it doesn't appeal to the vast majority of them.

The only way it would work is if they did a enormous retooling of how the game works, plays, and functions to make it more palatable to typical American consolefags.

And that ain't gonna happen without them alienating their very consistent and healthy cash cow that's currently one of the only things keeping them afloat.

Because their primary audience wants portable Monster Hunter, and thus the game is built from the ground up with portability in mind. The way quests and lobbies work, the average play-sessions length, etc. Maybe if Sony had a competitive portable on the market, but as it stands moving to the Switch is really the most viable option for future proofing the series for the next few years given the direction it's going.

Not to mention the Switch hardware is the natural evolution of what they were trying to do with 3U in the first place. Consolefags can play it on their TV, portable fags can play it on their handheld, and those of us in the middle can enjoy seemlessly Switching between each mode without having to go through a clunky save file transfer system.

It's a win-win for every Monster Hunter fan.

I think MH5 will be released on PS4 and here is why:
First we need to understand Capcom bussiness decisions regarding MH games before to understand few things. Why they choose platforms they choose, ports, online etc.
MH - released on PS2 with rather lackluster success at time best selling console then released on PSP which was hyped a lot (since it was made by PS2 maker) and it introduced local online for MH. From that point few next games transferred to PSP instead of being released on PS2.
Reason ? Monster Hunter multiplayer which became core part of MH. They wanted to make people play together in era in which consoles still didn't have great online. MH2/F/FU was exclusive to PSP precisely because they didn't want to divide people playing together in cafes, school, homes etc. The bigger the community the better for them.
You can start to see that Capcom treats MH games as community, trying to build around one platform to not divide people and make it harder for them to play.
Then something happened. PSP fell off. Like hard. Really hard. Capcom was trying to find platforms for their next project which already was underworks (presumably on PSP). Problem is that like in case above they have issue:
PSP - huge install base, rampart piracy, people seems to stop buying games for it.
PS3 - huge install base people buy games for it but MH needs local online and at that time MH - didn't have online multi.
DS - to weak for MH
Xbox - same problem as PS3
Wii - Absolutely amazing install base and people seem to jump on it like hot cakes.
PC - japanese don't play pc games nor west pc gamers care much about japanese games.

Japan loves portable Monster Hunter.

Japanese players are the ones making the franchise a huge success, and turned it into one of Capcom's biggest revenue streams.

Monster Hunter is one of the only IPs keeping Capcom afloat.

So tell me, why the fuck would they consider moving mainline Monster Hunter on a platform that is unappealing to their core demographic? Especially when the majority of people that actually like playing games on home consoles (the West) have proven consistantly that they care about Monster Hunter far less than Japanese players do. It's too niche, japanese-y, and grindy for casual American players to grow invested in. It would require a radical shift in game design, tone, style, and presentation to be appealing to Westerners, and even then it's unproven that it would move the kind of units that Capcom is looking for. It's not worth the risk, especially when you consider that any major changes would risk pissing of their primary fanbase in Japan.

Who again, are one of the only things keeping Capcom from going under.
