Depends on what you're looking for. If you just want to build a city and look at it in 3D, there are countless mods you can add to customize scenery and get lost in autistic detailing à la Planet Coaster.
It feels a bit childish to me though. It's so easy, you basically can't lose. Your biggest enemy is making the retarded traffic not look like shit in the vanilla game.
On that note, being forced to activate the unlock all mod just to be able to plan ahead and not having to demolish half your shitty town after an hour of playing triggers my autism to no end. Also expansions are expensive as fuck for the content. Sasuga Paradokusu

Oh that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not really after a proper city-building game, I just want one where I can build nice cities and just appreciate the scenery and graphics. I really can't think of anything that comes close to Skylines when it comes to "realistic" cities. The only gripe I have with it is that the building types, though there are many, are spread between the maps, so your city starts to look very same-y. As I said though, endless amounts of custom buildings to install (or make your own), it has a decent map editor built in, the graphics look reasonably realistic; so 4U I would definitely recommend it, yeah

Someone should copy the factorio recipe but instead of factories making weapons and stuffs,
it's a city builder where you need to plant the crops, but also have the factory to process them into food, and also the company to transfer the foods.
i can imagine the chaos behind the calculation of the economy though.

I've been playing Anno since the very first, but I still hate the griddy, blocky looking cities you end up with. I like how Tropico lets you place buildings far away from each other, there just might be some consequences for it being so far away, but at least it doesn't outright disable its effect if it's outside of a square. I would love to see an Anno game where the building range restriction doesn't exist and it just lowers happiness a little bit or the production efficiency.

Depends how much you fuck up your road layout. Basically, avoid intersections like the plague and compartmentalize blocks to a point they're self-sufficient aka market, fireman, entertainers, etc of their own that never wonder past a very basic square layout.
