the point is to have fun. So do whatever the fuck you want, bend the game mechanics to your will, Disgaea allows that. If you want to finish the game with just one character - by all means, do that. If you want to build an army of moth-man - that's fine. Explore the game systems, play with them, bend them to your will and have fun.

shit is already broken as hell, you can ignore half of the mechanics, you can overlevel easily, but then again that's fine - if it's too easy, just go to the cheat shop and increase enemy difficulty, or send your main party away and play with some secondary characters.

D5 in particular is just completely busted from the ground up. If you like you can use the DLC characters, they are going to make it even easier but honestly you'd already have to try to lose a map without them.
Then as soon as you recruit Usalia it literally doesn't matter anymore because using Curry just lets you one shot everything and any kind of balance goes completely out the window.
