Every palace after Madarame just feels like a cookie cutter imitation of some other dungeon from some other series.

I really liked how the distortions for the save rooms in Madarame's and Kamoshida's palace are actual places inside the real world, rather than just being a generic area that's still inside the palace.

Yes. The game in general went downhill after Madarame. The first time Life will Change played was one of the greatest moments I have ever experienced in a video game. There was a lot of reasons to hate Kamoshida and felt like you were justified in your actions (even if the villains were all saturday morning cartoon characters) because you were personally involved with him. The rest of the villains were never about justice or changing society, just muh fame and muh self-defense. You never have any kind of interaction with them so you have no reason to care.

I'd recommend against it. Just save it for NG+. I also played on normal and didn't abuse the reaper, and the game is easy enough as it. In NG+, either do it then, or maybe even fight the reaper the legit way, since you'll be overpowered anyway. That's what I think I'll do. Besides the twins, the game needs SOME form of challenge.

I wouldn't worry about it. Outside the area before the final boss, there are two high level encounters that you can farm easy. They give 10k+ per fight and they're pretty easy to kill once you work out a strategy. I went from lvl 76 to lvl 85 in about 30 mins and I'm currently playing on normal.

I started the game last September, but I had played way. way too many JRPGs before it so I burned out on them, I stopped right before Futaba's Palace and finally finished it up in March. Kamoshida was the worst villain because we actively see his effects on characters we like such as Ann, Ryuji, Mishima, even Joker. So the fact that he's got a bone to pick with you and your friends while also being a complete fucking asshole makes him really easy to hate. But as the targets went on and on and became bigger and bigger, it became less and less about you guys (up until Shido of course) and more about looking cool for the public by taking down big bads.

It's not so much that he was the biggest piece of shit, as he was the villain with the most-personal interactions with the protagonist and cast. It comes down to the rule of "show don't tell"; they actually showed Kamoshida being an asshole, often and in great detail. With everyone else you were given this non-diegetic understanding that they were shit people only after you invade their palace, when they suddenly become moustache-twirling caricatures.

The art guy, I forget his name, was probably the worst for this because his misdoings literally only affects one character you know- and a small number of people besides. Okumura is a close-second because again, Haru is the only victim you're familiar with (the mistreated McDonalds employees add at least some weight to failure). The mafia guy's plot was incredibly contrived but at least Makoto being a dumbass got the entire group in hot water; after Kamoshida it's just so much harder to get a feel for the stakes.
