I'm getting it for PS4 but that's also due to local meetup convenience. Better to bring a PS4 (or just the game itself) than lug an entire PC

what you want to do in Tekken is go into training, look at the command list of a character you like, then try to do them at least once

then work on one or two juggle combos that mostly put together two or three these moves in the command list after being able to launch someone in the air. be able to pull that off reliably.
most of these combos will shave off about 1/4 of an enemy's life so you do this stuff approximately 4 times and avoid the enemy doing it to you and you win

I've played Tekken on both, here's how I see it

Pad
>Easier but less accurate movement
>Less combo potential, slides and double inputs are a bitch even after macros, amd sometimes you just need to be faster than is comfortable on a pad

Stick

Pad can work, especially with discipline, and a casual player should stick to pad. However, becoming comfortable on a stick will pay off time and time again and will ultimately give you more control and accuracy. Some people call it preference, and for the most part it is, but I grew up on pad and switched to stick in 2015 and I've gotten better at everything I play. I never hear otherwise from stick users. It's additional work for additional benefits, and becomes even easier than pad once muscle memory sets in. There's a reason every Korean player (I've seen) is on one, and it's not just arcade culture. It's just better.

That being said, many characters in Tekken play the same. Movement is universally accepted as being a crucial factor in how good you are as a Tekken player. Korean backdash canceling is a necessary technique and used by everyone in all levels of play. If you're planning to play a Mishima (Heihachi, Kazuya, Jin, etc.), they have an added layer of execution in wavedashing and implementing their pseudo just-frame moves (EWGFs, OTGFs, EWHFs). Other characters have just-frame moves as well, like Paul, King, and Hwoarang. Some also have their own specific movement techniques (Nina's Hayashida step).

Don't know what all that shit means? Google it, you're going to do it a lot if you plan to take Tekken seriously. And don't even get me started about frame data.

tl;dr - mishimas have extra shit that makes them difficult to master, nina has some difficult wall carry combos, bryan's taunt JU is difficult, etc.

Games like 3rd Strike and SF2T are old as sin and there's still people playing it solely for the multiplayer. And those games didn't rely on story and party modes.

How long was SFV's campaign? Not that longer either. Plus there's still traditional arcade/time attack/survival modes, ghost/treasure battles, and one more coming in the form as DLC. Which by the way, I'm not too proud of that last one.

The layout of Tekken and the commands to do moves can and do work fine on pad. An arcade fightstick is still generally better because you can be more precise and have better hand/wrist movement but Tekken does have some leeway and is a slightly slower game, e.g fastest move in Tekken series is like 10 frames to actually hit i think? fastest move in some other fighting games can hit on 2 or even 3 frames or even 1st frame.

But in lieu of your question you will be find to play this on a pad. If it was KOF then you would struggle real hard to play that on a pad.

Sticks are a little more difficult to get used to but a little easier/better once you're familiar.
Pads are more familiar but it may be marginally more difficult to pull off some moves.

All in all, not a significant difference unless you're looking to go full pro.

Does Rugal even really have a style? Like I think his thing was stealing styles with a few unique stuff in there (which I guess he stole from other people). So it makes sense that like Caludio who doesn't have a real style that moves are harder to play in a real world context.

In general Claudio is full of references, he's a Quincy, a lot of his poses do seem to be a jojo reference though I've not been able to get good pictures to compare. So it makes sense that his moveset is taken from stuff they like as well.

Most simply won't work in Tekken's systems without making the majority up, and when the styles that do work better are already 90% fake it makes even trying a bit pointless. If your style has a lot of grabs like your example shows, no point. Which leads to the next problem

No one would know what any of these styles are so they would shift zero extra copies. Even if just there in name only it is pointless cause people have no idea what that means. It basically only makes a few nerds who look up what the styles they use feel smug, but then they'd complain anyway about it not being accurate enough.
