If I were you I'd just skip it and wait for the sequel, RDR's the story is good but you'd get more from watching Unforgiven, or any other good Western you've been meaning to watch.

The gameplay is poor with constant repetitious shoot-outs and the sidequests are incredibly shitty fetch-quests.

RDR runs like ass on both consoles, but IIRC it actually runs and looks better on the 360.
