They used motion blur and sort of a slow camera to mask the 30FPS. Platinum games even on consoles have always had responsive controls and the engine they've been using is light to run.

Part of the reason 30FPS gets worse rep than it necessarily needs is how the unresponsiveness it causes increases with vsync and the TVs most widely used during the 7th gen(which are still widely in use) because of all the input lag.
Crash Bandicoot and Killzone both run 30FPS but one felt very responsive while the other felt extremely sluggish for a reason.
