There are too few maps and they all range from mediocre to shit. Weapons still don't have proepr collision resulting in you shooting into cover despite the weapon clearly being ontop of it which is really annoying because RO2 and Rising Storm did it properly. Furthermore the UI isn't very good either and dedicated squad leader roles should be brought back.

They should have made the 2 Conquest maps (Ia Drang and Song Be) be available in territorial, and also made it so compound and the airbase for 16 players or some shit is available for 64. It'd just become a retarded shitshow like Apartments but I don't care. 3 Territorial maps is ridiculously small doubly so when the US literally does not defend on a single one. I appreciate the effort to add in conquest as a more unique mode and it is a bit hard to figure out how a huey can work in a territorial map but I can guarantee territory will be the more popular choice.

The game is probably worth the 20-30 bucks it is going for though. I had a lot of fun with the betas, I just am kind of tired with the maps so I am liable to wait a bit for release.

Keep recoil keep slow but up range. Feels like it has the range of a spitball now. It'll inevitably be poorer quality due to the abundance of automatics but it still is useful on Hue.

HUGE thing that needs fixing is the utter dogshit C4/Claymore for USA. Outside of dealing with tunnels the C4 is little useful and the claymore? Yeah, great idea, a team always on offense on territorial mode will surely need a directional mine that requires line of sight to know when to fire it.

Meanwhile the PRVN gets 6 of the amazing bouncing betty mines and 2 tripwires if scout and punji for every grunt. I don't mind since I usually play gook but the combat engineer is fucking awful for the US.

Let the US combat engineer choose between a claymore or a bouncing betty mine, they can keep the C4 to fart around with but the claymore is worthless on offense. If the US was defending on Hue then it'd be amazing.

Usually but in earlier waves the US never had a snowball chance in hell in winning Cuchi, hamburglar hill was manageable, Hue was once in a blue moon. They did some decent map changes to Hue to make it easier to reach C and deny the ability to recap at A/B. That recap lock for early points might be a good idea as I remember some RO2 (maybe RS1?) maps where certain points or just certain maps did not allow recapping simultaneous 2 points.

And that's the other problem - "The US have superior technology to the PRVN":
-They get no helicopters on Cuchi and Hue, but the Gooks still get tunnel spawns.
-They get 18 rounds for their M16s (but a shit load more mags. Gooks get around 3 AK mags total. However that's not really a big deal because you are liable to die on offense before you go through many mags and gooks are close to ammo boxes as defenders).
-The Gook mines as mentioned fucking wipe the floor with the claymore.
-The Gook Surveillance is uninterruptable, the US surveillance can be shot down (but may last a bit longer)
-Gooks do get 1 artillery to the US getting 3, but the 2 US artillery are interruptible.


If they wanted to play up the tech difference and I say this as a Gook player:
-Limit AKs to squad leaders/commander on Vietcong. They used SKS or surplus shit more.
-Give the US an M113 as a ground huey (mobile spawn and M2 gun platform) on any map without Helicopters. Maybe even also on maps with helos. This gives further reason for the RPG7 for the Gooks (and you could throw the gooks a bone by letting RPG gunners choose between frag AP Rockets and AT rockets).
-Make the US surveillance plane not shot down by SAMs but still able to be shot down by MGs.

Also let the US field x1.5 to x2 as many specialist classes - machine gunner, combat engineer, 40mm grenadiers anything else I forget. Keep pointmen and snipers at the same level. Maybe let the gooks have a few more snipers or scouts (tripwire + MAT49/Shotgun guys).

And aside of the map perhaps being too small visually just add littlebirds and cobras to Hue and Cuchi. Now you got a tool to crack the nut of Gooks on the wall of hue point C or the roofs at A/B.

The game is really heavily VC balanced right now. Even though the U.S. is supposed to be technologically superior, the VC are the ones with the better gear, their guns run circles around the US ones and none of their explosive deployables need to be manually triggered wheras all the US ones do.

And then there's the big issue, which is the way the recon/scouts work. US has a plane that can be shot down, and doesn't show VC who are in cover or in bushes with the grass overlay on their screen. VC scouts recon everything and cannot be stopped. It's a huge advantage.

The m16 is superior to all three AK variants.
The three US shotguns are vastly superior to their Vietnamese counterparts.
The flamer is devastating and in territories does far more damage than RPGs do.
The US get phsosphorus grenades and C4 which are superior to VC grenades.
The only superior weapon the VC have is the PPSH. Mines, tripwires and traps are often easy to spot and they fucking glow from kilometres away for pointmen to locate and disable. On top of that the US gets three sets of artillery all on independant timers to the Vietnamese one, which would be game breaking if the US had better intel as the Vietnamese do.

You could argue that the maps are designed poorly and without balance but the weapons do most certainly favour the US.

It's working as intended. In RO2/RS you would shoot out of your eyeballs. In RS2 the bullets come out of the actual barrel. The only down side currently is that it's hard to tell if the barrel is obstructed.
It 100% solves the issue of some MG42 somewhere prone with only the top half of their head exposed mowing down everything in sight.

Cobras have rocket pods, fixed miniguns, and a gimbaled machine gun.

MH-6s have a mounted minigun and can transport 1 passenger (like the commander where he can get a good look at the map).

Hueys have dual M60 machine guns and can transport up to 7(?) including machine gunners. Their primary purpose is putting squads behind the lines to attack from an unexpected direction.

I like the KF2 system personally. I made money on it just playing vidya, you get a drop everyday, you don't miss on anything by just ignoring it.

Same on Day of Infamy, dropped an Indian regiment and the black bull regiment, sold the two for about 13€ on the store. Their game is basically refunded to you after a few levels.

It's all cosmetics, you don't have to buy anything and you drop stuff regularly that you can sell.


I understand why they are going back to a more "reactionary" method of selling their DLCs, because the setting of RS2 is limited and it has to stay realistic and coherent.

As long as they only charge on cosmetics and continue delivering the actual content for everyone, I'm ok with it.

That might be just a fetish of mine, I dunno, but humidity, rain, mud and malaria are things that in my mind ring with the atmosphere of the Vietnam war which I really don't see in RS2 so far.

Day of Infamy is low risk. You drop unit skins with levelling which you can sell. Already got my money back on my initial purchase that way.

Anyway the two games are pretty different in scale and scope. Day of Infamy is much more fast paced and have some better mechanics, also much more polished but Rising Storm has big maps, vehicles and overall much more realistic gun fights.

#0 is the default. Larger shot, but fewer in each shell. Less spread, longer range.
#4 is the alternative (except on the Duckbill). Smaller shot, but more of them in each shell. More spread, shorter reliable range.
With the Duckbill and stakeout, which are more about strict close quarters, the #4 has the advantage due to the larger spread, which allows for frequent multikills as both types penetrate soft targets just as well.
The standard Ithaca loaded with #0 has a range rivaling, but not equal to, the Baikal.

At first try in closed beta I only tried the Hue City map, and I was immediately turned off by how bad the experience was.

Then I tried two of the outdoor maps (hill and something else) in the open beta, and shit was much more satisfying and fun. Not a complete bottle-neck experience like the garbage city map.

I'm fairly confident in the game now. Don't feel like refunding it.

I think the devs said in an interview that they were worried about including ground vehicles because generally people just fuck around in them (like try taking them off of jumps) and ruin the mood of the game. I would think you could do the same with helicopters but whatever.

part of me prefers the way guns in the Red Orchestra/Rising-Storm games feel. I like the fact I can mess with ironsights even if It's almost never useful to do, that said I think there are better ways to do things than RS2 does them.

I'm a total noob with only five hours in the game but I get the concepts behind SL's, commanders, fire supports and spawning. I figure the best way to learn is by doing and I've been doing alright so far. I at least place tunnels and marks, and try to stay alive/near objectives as GI SL.

not super useful if you're gi but as vc you get personal tunnel of sorts.

but getting people to join your squad is easy. the upside to most SLs sucking is that most people will consider joining your squad if you type "join my squad for good spawns" in team chat.

also as a reminder to those who wont be SL themselves you can check the rank of the SL before you join the squad. needless to say if a rank 1 is SL you might want to consider joining another squad.

could you be any more of an obvious troll? arma 2 knows how to do long distance combat properly, it's trash in every red orchestra game besides Ostfront 41-45 and the games are entirely centered around it to the point where most engagements, the other player model isn't even rendered it's so far away.

yeah that's what i thought when i bought the game, happy to use a flamethrower or katana or thompson, but then i spent most of my playtime getting sniped by people that are literally invisible, across the entire map. game was still about camping and long distance sniping, they just put CQB weapons in there to make people think the sniping was removed.

They need a wire detonation just like the wire trap the japs have. Someone please correct me but I've always thought Claymores were either command detonated or set like a trap with a wire.

If none of that can change you need to be able to detonate them without taking the detonator out manually, it takes way too long.

On the upside, I checked the kill distance on them in the firing range and holy shit it will instagib someone from 40 feet away like it should.
