That man has a Guinness World Record and will be remembered by many.

What will you be remembered for, OP?

>>
>>377981231
This. For me, "holding the game" isn't the issue. I purchased something that I intend to hold on to for the rest of my life. If my console or memory decides to shit out after the online services goes down, I have no way of playing my games again. It's future-proofing, the physical aspect is just a bonus.
>>
>>377981808
sounds like someone is shit at games in general and couldn't beat his lil sister in mario kart!

Physical allows you to resell games you don't like. Digital just sits there as a constant reminder of how you wasted your money. I don't mean GameStop either. Set up an Amazon sellers account and you can make back at least half of what you paid.
>>
>>377982024

use external harddrives :^)
>>
>>377982242
exactly, many games I want to play that I cant because I lost the physical copy and they refuse to re-release or, ironically, digital it. Many gems were lost that I'd love to play today.

I've thought about this a lot, since this gets brought up a lot.
If steam ever actually shuts down, the uproar will be absolutely fucking enormous. I don't think, even in the state they're currently in, Valve would just leave everyone without their games.

Millions of people have poured billions of dollars into their video game collections. If Valve was a company as small as, say, Desura, then this would be a different story - but Steam is too big to fall without consequence at this point. If Steam dies, (as of 2015) over 125 million people would lose billions of dollars of games. Hundreds upon hundreds of developers depend upon Steam for distribution and their livelihood. It's an ecosystem that's pretty much become inextricable from PC gaming as a whole.

If Steam dies, either Valve will release a tool that authenticates Steamworks games automatically after providing users with a set period of time to download their games before the service dies forever, or someone else will keep it running. There's pretty much no alternative solution other than crippling one of the legs of the video game industry.

Also, for 99% of PC games released today, there's literally no alternative other than piracy.

>>377985450
I don't think steam will die soon as it makes so much money from royalties and a bunch of other shit. Hell, if they needed a boost in funds they could honestly release a half assed sequel and make a bajillion dollars.

I do. I like to buy high capacity flash drives and put my games all on there. It's like I'm using a mini cartridge!

I'm thinking about 3D printing some cute little things to fit over the flashdrives so they're nicer looking.
>>
>>377985886
There's also that. I don't think Valve is ever in danger of actually going bankrupt. Even if they ran into dire financial straits, their main priority would be keeping Steam online - which is a contradictory statement in and of itself, because Steam makes them literal millions of dollars a year.

PC gaming itself would have to die for Steam to die.

Don't complain when your entire Saturn collection slowly gets destroyed over the next 10 years then.

>>
>>377990552
My laser disc collection still works and some are from the late 70's/very early 80's. I'm sure his or any saturn collection will be fine for longer than 10 fucking years.
>>
>>377980779
Well, I'm not like OP so I'm not addicted to games. I only buy like 8-10 a year at most so I like to have physical copies
>>
>>377991525
They fucked up the way the manufactured the Saturn discs, making them more likely to develop disc rot. Also applies to Dreamcast, but that can play unsigned discs, so if ur game fucks up, you can download and burn a new one. It happens on PS1 discs too, but not nearly as often.
>>
>>377991790
I guess time will tell, but I honestly believe if a game is in its case away from sunlight and such you probably won't see disc rot and most likely the cd/dvd will outlast your lifetime.

I was for physical 100% then I noticed how nice it is to launch a game without inserting a disc. I spent over $300 buying games during the 360 BC sale last week and I may sell off my physical collection after backing up the discs in case MS pulls some shit years from now but I LOVE what they are doing with backwards compat.
>>
>>377992062
It has to do with the actual data layer and the front prints both being very cheap and very thin. As well as tiny bits of oxygen being in that layer. Sunlight definitely aids the development, but they will all rot in the end and its popping up more and more frequently. Sega literally did zero quality control.
>>
>>377992274
You have a nice collection anon, don't be silly and/or lazy.
