No lie OP, I agree. The entire game has been so fucking slow so far and I'm about 20 hours in and just got Elanore as a party member. The characters are your very typical anime character, the graphics are LITERALLY PS2 graphics, the story is VERYVERYVERY boring, the world is incredibly linear and empty and many systems in the game are pointless or worthless.

For me at the it was around the 30 hour mark.
Suddenly all characters got more likeable, even those who I couldn't stand in the first 20 hours like Eizen for being a boring fuck.
Tales games often rely on the character interaction more than the story and the character interaction actually gets better at that point.
Everything else stays the same and the plot itself doesn't get any more interesting, so take from that what you want.

This is the biggest mistake that could ever have been done by the writers, instead of giving us a vilain protagonist with a good motivation to fight against good (to help deconstruct the trope of the simple typical vilain) we instead get a vilain protagonist with an even bigger evil to fight.

I won't even get into how Arthur's objective is one of the most tired dead horses in writing tropes ("let's make the world peaceful by making everyone into automaton" really needs to rot in the pits of hell) but the entire basis of the story switches from good versus evil with us cheering for evil to "ohohoh we're the bad guys but we're gona save the world !!".

This is so badly done that some dialogue makes no sense at all when it is said.
Case in point the moment when Rokurou wishes the apple gave bad luck as YOU are the bad guys By this point into the story it makes no sense at all you are not the bad guys you're the obviously good guys fighting against a mind-wiping, genocidal, crazy god.

I would say another flaw is simply how repetitive it gets.
There's so little variety in enemies, and what variety is there is mostly superficial when half the flying enemies have the same exact attacks / behavior etc. While the variety in attacks and combos is massive, as expected in Tales games, for most enemies the best strategy is generally repeating the same 4-5 attack combo string over and over again until dead, occasionally switching to a healing spell if playing as someone with that. There's also almost zero challenge with roamer enemies once you get the hang of the game, and with healing spells + food and way more money than you'll ever put to good use it's rare that you'll ever be roaming around the fields below 90% party health, let alone at low health. But the problem is, if you just skip the roamers you'll be horribly underleveled for the next boss and will be in for an over 10 minute fight with something that can 1-2 hit you due to how much health they can have (when underleveled).

This I feel is Berseria's (and most Tales of games) biggest issue. The best solution for Tales I feel would be to have enemies in the world that don't respawn every time you leave the area, less of them per area, make them more challenging, and have them grant a lot more xp. Then just throw in a few challenge arenas and some giant open fields people can go to any time they want to fuck around and experiment with combat.

Personally, I've always loved JRPGs but never been a huge Tales fan. I liked Phantasia back in the day. I enjoyed Vesperia. That was pretty much it until Berseria came out. IMO it's one of the best Tales games easily, and I enjoyed it.

I didn't mind the cast of Berseria. All of them could be used in battle and not be dead weight. Magilou is the best. What I really hate about the game is the weapon system. Every single weapon either feels generic or is some extremely stupid thing that only raises a single stat that the charatcer does not even need. Upgrading them is also super tedious. You can't even keep them in a new game plus.
