I had the opposite experience, I finished Witcher 3 like a year ago but I never went back for the DLC since my old PC (built it to play Witcher 2 no less) could barely run the game at medium settings 30fps, so I just held off until I could buy a decent PC that'd run it in 4k at 60 FPS, now that the 1080ti is out I figured now was the time. So bought all the DLC, loaded up Witcher 3, started a new save by importing my old Witcher 2 data again and immediately felt how dated this game is now.

BotW was the last open world game I played before jumping back into Witcher 3 and holy shit does Witcher 3 pale in comparison. Everything from the way the game opens, to the controls, to just how static the world feels hits you like a sack of bricks from the get go. Getalt moves like a sack of shit. BotW was so open and freeing, you could climb anything, glide anywhere, the controls were fast and responsive, the combat was fun and open to experimentation. It's kinda amazing just how much BotW does right that Witcher 3 doesn't even come close to in just the open world exploration side of things. And it's all the little things that BotW does well that really makes it feel so good to play.

So despite the fact that I'm playing this in 4k, on the highest settings, and getting 60 FPS it feels less smooth than a game that would frequently dip into the teens on my Wii U. It really goes to show Nintendo are still the masters of game design.

One thing W3 has over BotW is the horse though, Roach feels useful in a way the horses in BotW never did. I think they might have given you the paraglider too early for them to really have any purpose in that game.

The other thing that Witcher 3 does wrong is the level restricted weapons, I go off into a high level area with strong monsters in BotW and I come out with powerful weapons as a reward, in Witcher 3 though, you fight strong enemies and find powerful weapons you can't use them until 20 hours later when you hit that level and by that time they're useless because you've already got the Witcher equipment which is invariably the best equipment for any given level. That more than anything for me kills the exploration in Witcher 3. Yeah you can kill enemies that are "too strong for you" but the game punishes you for doing it when it should reward you.

I have a g-sync 144hz-180hz monitor and The Witcher 3 stutters like mad on unlocked framerates. The Witcher 3 is very bad with g-sync. (GTX 1080)

I am not even sure how to fix this. I have maximum prerendered frames already at 1 and have tried adjusting the allocation of cores via processes and it won't fix the microstutters. Not sure what else I tried.

I don't think The Witcher 3 looks too amazing in these screenshots, but anyone who has played it knows that it looks gorgeous. It's certainly not the best looking game on PC, but it is pretty and if we're comparing it to the new Zelda then it's a done deal. The new Zelda looks like fun, but it also looks like garbage graphically. I'm not big about graphics, hell, the original NieR is one of my favorite games and that looks like trash. The new Zelda is just another example of consoles keeping games from reaching their true potential, the game would be miles better if it was developed for PC.
