Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.

Literally a god tier video game that only gets better as it goes along, with the three best levels being in the second half of the game. If this game got a proper bugfix it would literally be up there with System Shock and VtMB as one of the greatest immersive sims of all time.

The gun mechanics where great too, more games need to drop the use of reticules and HUDs and have more weapon sway and manually checking of ammunition. The guns in this game where so fun and well implemented.

why does lovecraft look like adam sandler

There are lot of writers that wrote cosmic horror stories. Though they were all inspired by lovecraft.

Spielberg and the dude who did The Kin in Yellow comes to mind.

Quake is good.

Also one of the designers made the Call of Cthulhu tabletop so that's bonus points.

Probably only bloodborne. Was never into cosmic horror, mainly because I think its still never been done well outside of comics.
>>
>>377948463
No, because that's fucking retarded and cuts out all the cool stuff.
>hey so, guys, look at this game, it has all these super powerful beings beyond human comprehension, and it's an action RPG/FPS/whatever!
>ah, that's cool, i'm guessing they're like the big bosses of the game, right?
>nah, you just fight their avatars and minions.
the problem is that games that do make you fight otherworldly gods beyond human comprehension sadly makes them well within human comprehension without giving much reason as to why you're able to fight them. like bloodborne, you shouldn't have been able to fight half the bosses in that game as a lowly hunter, but you do, and all of them are basically slightly more disgusting variants of your typical RPG monster.
>>
>>377949049
But the twist of Bloodborne is that you were (becoming) a great one. See Demon's Souls.
>>
>>377950082
You could've spoiled that, you know.
>>
>>377950478
No he didn't need to. The game's been out for about 4 years now.

>>377950082
I get that, but even by the time you meet something like Ebrietas you shouldn't be able to kill her. You don't fully become the Great One until you beat Moon Presence, or maybe when you beat Gehrman period.

>With the three best levels being the second half of the game

Sorry buddy, but the first part of the game is actually the best. After that the devs got lazy and turned it into a generic FPS.

>DCotE
>generic FPS
>devs got lazy

Literally kill yourself, especually for calling the devs lazy. The devs tried fucking hard to make this game and Bethesda fucked them over and ruined everything. You are so wrong on so many levels. Just because a game has a gun doesn't make it a generic FPS.

>no reticule/crosshair at all
>no HUD elements at all
>have to manually check rounds in your mag
>low ammo counts
>weapon sway/deadzone like in Red Orchestra 2 adds to the atmosphere with your gun not being locked to centre screen and instead moving where your gun points it

Also how the fuck is stealth infiltrating an occult hideout or escaping a prison cell typical FPS levels? The only levels that were FPS like where the 2 levels immediatly after getting a gun. The fish factory including the car chase, which is the worst level and the only bad level in the game. Then the refinery. And even then, Refinery was more like a Doom level with a very maze likle structure, where the main objective is finding your way through the maze. Rather than a shooter. There was only a handful of enemies in it even. Then after that you lose guns again, then find some then lose them again multiple times.

The first half of the game is great, but it's also literally a fucking walking simulator. Imagine Gone Home or Dear Esther but with actually good atmospere and effort put into it. That's the first part of DCotE. I don't know why you guys defend it. It's a good part, and it's okay because the later part justifies it as being an extended buildup. But if the whole game was the opening where you don't have any weapons, the game wouldn't be nearly as good. It would just be another walking sim, albiet a fairly spooky one. The game is better for having weapons and I am not wrong that the best 3 levels in the game are the last ones where you have guns in the Air Filled Tunnels, the Reef and the Occult Hideout.

The PC port was done in like a week by one guy who was a friend of the dev team IIRC. Read this image to find out, the development of this game was so fucked over by Bethesda. The devs truly tried and got fucked in the ass multiple times. It's been a while since I last read this >>377952185 image but IIRC they did the PC port on their own dime without Bethesda's knowledge even.

Just play the OG Xbox version. The PC version even with fixes has a lot of issues.

>>377951750

>one bad level means the game comes to a halt

Are you another one of the poor cuckolds who dropped the game at the fish factory? You know that level takes like max 20 minutes to finish right and that the game gets really good after that again. Fish factory isn't even bad, it's just not as good as any other level in the game.

I can't believe /v/ hates walking sims so much, but then when an actual good walking sims comes out, but turns into a horror shooter like FEAR/Stalker half way through /v/ shits itself in rage and claims guns ruined it and they wanted a walking sim the entire time.

>I get that, but even by the time you meet something like Ebrietas you shouldn't be able to kill her

At that point in the game you're not a regular human. You used Eldritch blood echoes (which came from celestial beings such as Ebrietas) to make yourself inhumanly stronger, faster, more resilient, etc. Even your weapons are reinforiced with inhuman blood (blood gems), and the fact that you're part of the dream means you are technically immortal and get as many tries to kill something as you need.

Add to that that you recieved enough insight to start growing eyes inside and not go mad.
>>
>>377952415
FOR THE LAST TIME. The PC version does NOT have any technical issues. It has compatibility issues. I beat the game twice on WinXP without any issues.

I played it for the third time on Win7 using the same hardware. It was a nightmare. The scripts were broken, the ship level gave me a BSOD. I had to download a save game file to skip to the next level.
>>
>>377952956

So if I play it on WinXP and play it in 1920x1080 and 60fps. I wont get issues like the reef, I wont have walk speed issues at the end because of walk speed tied to framerate? I wont have moving a certain item in the hotel chase sequel crash the game?

Does this game play in a virual machine well?
>>
>>377950796
I believe somewhere in game they even reference the fact that Great Ones dont truly "die" anyways and are just merely fucked off to the next mere plane of existence. Many people who are supposedly "dead" are actually in fact still alive just in another dreamworld.
>>
>>377953162
virtual machine? nope. it should work fine on XP though. I know it's stupid but the game was made with older operating systems in mind. even most popular/updated games like Half-Life have tons of compatibility issues (scripted sequences are out of sync, timing errors (it didn't have an input/out system like hl2), etc.).

I fear that we'll need a windows emulator to run older games properly some day.

We probably will. I still use W7 and installing that on my new rig I bought a few weeks back was a nightmare. I have some spare HDD's laying around that I could put XP on, but I am wondering if it will even install with the new mobo's now. I had to download workarounds even for 7 to install now.

Would it be possible to go around to my brothers place who still has an old PC. Take his HDD out, put my spare in, install Win XP on that, then come over and hook it up to my new one and have it boot up with Win XP?

Equally inferior and perhaps even more so is the Australian black stock, which differs widely from the real negro. In dealing with these two black races, there is only one sound attitude for any other race (be it white, Indian, Malay, Polynesian, or Mongolian) to take and that is to prevent admixture as completely and determinedly as it can be prevented, through the establishment of a colour line and the rigid forcing of all mixed offspring below that line."

Why would I say something rude to someones face though? I am not a neo nazi faggot. I am just a realist. Don't relax yourself around minorities, and don't trust them not to rob you, but no reason to be rude to someones face either. I try to give everyone a chance and treat them equally, give minorities a chance to prove themselves.
