Reminder to worship the Endless.

Can we please have another good ES thread? Last thread was great and the only time I've ever seen Endless discussed on /v/.

Endless Legend welcome also.
>>
How does it compare to the first one? I found the first to be lacking complexity and options.
>>
Got ES1 for 1 yurop the other week.
Played 25 hours so far and have yet to finish a match.

AI are a bunch of cheating fucks.
>>
>>377897797
>How does it compare to the first one?
I can't comment on the intricacies of the metagame since I just play on low difficulty for the power trip but in my opinion it does all the things ES1 did well and does them again, with some extra shiny added on.

So more of the same, but better.
>>377897840
>AI are a bunch of cheating fucks.
This is true.
>>
>>377897918
Do you have any tips on how to cheese the AI in ES1?
Want to win a game already.
>>
>>377898304
>Do you have any tips on how to cheese the AI in ES1
Shit, uh...I haven't played ES1 since sinking into Endless Legend.

What I do remember working frighteningly well is the self-repair module. Rush that in research, build a big tanky ship with lots of HP (healing 10% of 10K HP per turn is much better than 10% of 6K that has higher defense) and the steamroll should begin. At least that's how I remember
>>
How good is endless legend compared to civ5? Which DLCs should I buy?
>>
>>377898502
>How good is endless legend compared to civ5?
Having played both, I liked EL a lot more. It's more visually appealing and feels more "alive". I'm not exactly sure how to clarify that; maybe there's more evidence of TLC from the devs? Maybe it's just in my head.

The DLCs are all good but I have them all and it really starts to feel like feature creep once you have them all together. If you have to get them, pick one or two that appeal to you.
>>
>>377898402
Neat, I'll try that.
>>
>>377898664
Good luck anon. If you're on Steam maybe we could band forces together for an AI beatdown. But, as I said, I don't know that much about strategy and mostly just like flattening the AI.
>>
>>377897658
on my current map cravers colonized half the galaxy and then stopped.
Will i be fucked if i crush them? are their planets getting sucked dry like in ES1 while times goes by?

Fuck yeah, time for another Endless thread.

You are planning the demise of your local Unfallen or Vodyani, aren't you /v/?

Voydani are the coolest faction imo. Amplitude's factions have always been really neat about being unique both in terms of jaw-dropping designs and varied playstyle.

tips for getting gud in Endless Legend?
>>
>>377898402
Unless the AI vastly outnumbers you in a battle, they will always attack your first 3 ships.
Build 2-3 high hp/armoured ships (Don't bother with too many weapon specific defenses) for a fleet with maybe some repair modules.
The rest of the fleet should be small glass cannons that use long-range kinetic weaponry.

I was easily mopping the floor of several 3k-4k point AI fleets with 1 or 2 of my 1500-2000 point fleets
>>
>>377897840
>Played 25 hours so far and have yet to finish a match.
Welcome to 4x where the game acknowledges you have won 2/3rds of the way in, but will not accede like that one guy on lan parties that spends the entire 2 hours of a max players Age of Empires 2 game hiding town centers and laughs like a retard when call him a stalling faggot.
>>
>>377901835

>>
>>377900441

>>

Def get the one that adds spies n sheit.

Guardians too if you like super units.

Others if you like what they add.
>>
>>377899712
That's because by endgame you have already won and it's just the process of getting the victory, which are the least interesting portions of the game because the AI is never a challenge anyway.

Unfallen are so fucking good. You can speed up their vine spreading by stacking multiple vineships in a single fleet. And then colonize whatever planets you want instantly, which grow up obscenely fast because of their food generation.
>>
>>377899848

I got a panic attack when new races immigrating and fast research meant my empire's dominant party was scientists and pacifists, until I realized it only impacts what laws you pass.

Not like in Stellaris where it starts preventing you from declaring War n sheit.
>>
>>377900316
I'm at war with the Vodyani right now. Didnt plan to but those fucks started sucking my population up. As a member of the most beautiful and perfect race I just couldnt stand to see my fellow amazing Horatio fall to such common filth.

The unfallen the tree people bug out the vodyani. If you anchor a vodyani ark in a system with that guardian buff thing from the unfallen the ark bugs the fuck out and wont achor or unanchor and its just fucking stuck there.

They released this shit way too early. On top of everything if you're playing on a large map, its one thing to have lag a hundred turns or so in, its a completely different thing for it to freeze up.

Apparently they are suggesting to not play with pirates because the AI is doing some weird shit when it has a lot of pirates around.

Once again, wait until its cheaper because they released it too early.

I say this as someone who bought it during early access and i'm feeling pretty burned right now.

Dunno about guides, but abusing luxury resources is a solid strategy.

Basically, you can "burn" them for bonuses like --double-- resource production for 10 turns I think.

Rush market tech so you can buy them for dust.

By turn 50 you'll be an era ahead in research with a full empire plan, renown to spare, and 10x the dust prod they have n sheit.

>>
>>377902051
That's true, I'm wondering if it would be better off if the actual victory conditions were a bit easier then. Like instead of 60% of habitable planets for a federation victory in Stellaris, why not just make it so you only need over 50%? Or instead of needing to be influential over everyone in Civilization 5's cultural victory, maybe you can just ignore that one faggot country that is just stacking culture. I understand all this shit for multiplayer, but for single player it's just tedious. They're too stupid to actually get victories. This genre is usually played single player, and yet the AI is never good enough in any of the games to justify the single player experience. It's not too far off just turning bots on in an FPS.
>>
>>377903380
I think the problem is these games are usually balanced with a multiplayer perspective.

Give a player victory for having 51% of the galaxy would kind of be a dick move to the guy with 49% victory who might still easily win the game depending on circumstances (for example, if he focused more on research so now he has a much more developed fleet than the other guy despite being slightly smaller). You want victory to be clear enough that it can't be reasonably contested, but at the same time that means that in almost all cases, especially in singleplayer, you already know that you've won the game long before the game actually grants you the win.

Just don't neglect your military and you'll be fine.

The AI cheats but they always go hostile and they can't win a fight against a hero-led army to save their lives, even with a tech advantage. So you can grind them down and eventually eke out a big territory advantage.

Vodyani have a hard early game.
Don't waste essence getting pop. Get out another leecher ship if you have more than one civ to leech off and get another ark as fast as possible.
AI can't do shit against arks early game and what you want is defenses for your leeches and as many leeches as you can get.
Also deck one of your arks out with essence modules.

You want an army of leeches and arks early game until you can ramp up production and have the right technology.

>>
>>377909382
Yes. Easiest way to take planets is siege them first to drain them of manpower (there's also early unlockable siege modules to speed it up). You should fit invasion ships with Manpower modules.

Manpower filling is handled on empire level, and you can increase this with food and left tech quadrant that unlocks buildings that give additional manpower per food. Military window (the one where you design ships) also has soldier upgrades (that apply on empire level) and you can change how big % of your armies are soldiers / tanks / planes.
>>
>>377909359
Can you even do the tutorial if it's not your first game? I bought it when it first went into early access and sort of played it sparingly on and off since then. I really wish there was any real resource for information about this game, a lot of stuff is vague and not too explained, like exactly how trading companies work. You get the vague idea of what you need to do but the specifics of which company creates routes to which subsidiary is very esoteric.

On another note, god damn has it improved since then.

This game punishes you badly if you rush colonizations, siding this and the fact that Cravens permanently fuck up systems is goddamn stupid
>>
>>377912086
>From what I've seen the AI always chooses conscription.
Conscription is by far the best tactic. It'll turn a definitive loss into a stall at the cost of 1 population.

Even if you might lose the system eventually there will be no population left for it to be of much value.
>>
>>377912143
That's the entire point of the cravers. They're playing a race against time, and if they stop colonizing or conquering they're dead.
>>
What's this game? I've been trying to give new games and genres a go lately. Can you sell me on it?
>>
>>377912269
It's a space 4X game

have you played Civilization? It's pretty similar
>>
>>377911406
How the hell do you manage to get the Ecologist approval in 4 systems as them? Shit seems almost impossible if you don't manage to get some Horatios or one of the smaller factions to fill a system.
>>
>>377912143
>>377912201
Do you eventually just give up on old systems to deal with overcolonization? Seein how when they're depleted they're not of that much value anymore.

What's the point of building a system up anyways?
>>
>>377912201
So, in theory, can i let them kill all the other factions and the once we're left 1vs1 turtle in my systems until they run out?
>>
>>377912269
You get to watch Space Muzzie ships explode.
>>
>>377912269
I personally suggest starting with Civilization, I started with Civ5. The reason is that it feels like the game throws a bunch of shit at you that doesn't make sense at first, but there's some familiarity with Civilization. You know who the French are, you know that a tank is going to be more powerful than a guy with a sword, etc. Once you get used to that, then the more fantasy and sci-fi ones are easier I believe.

Can someone give me an update on Endless Legend? I haven't played in over a year but I somehow have Shifters and Tempest in my library, I must have bought them during some sale between the last time I played and now. I really want to like this game but i'm on the fence. I'm currently playing cravers and without thinking about anything or using any sort of a strategy i'm just wiping the floor with everyone. Spam ships and consume planets.

How do the population bonuses actually work? For example, if a horatio has +2 to food production does that mean that every system produces two more food per horatio?
>>
Anyone got terraforming map? Or is there somewhere in the game where you can check? Wondering where to put Obelisk of Remembrance since it gets boosts from Temperate planets.

>>377912369
Even with minor factions and spamming farms it's difficult. Fastest way to do it is to change to dictatorship, choose Ecologist party, then do propaganda (dictatorship exclusive system improvement) to 4 systems, then once the quest is complete change back to not shit government type.
>>

I was talking about outposts, they grow based on planet resource output. Click the system you just settled. Normal factions can spend Dust to double food or Influence to increase outpost migration, whereas Riftborn get the option of spending Titanium or Hyperium to get Industry boosts that increases outpost growth.

I really want to like this game and it seems like it's improved on a lot of the dumb shit about the first game (the battle tactics screen gives me wood) but it's seriously unstable and quirky in a bad way. Using the steam overlay while the turn is ticking over is a CTD (okay, sure whatever). Clicking on the diplomacy tab is a CTD (!). The behavior of various popups at turn start is just bizarre -- random events come before imminent battle notifications, but if you click on the battle notification, before you can start the battle it's gonna let you know if you have any technologies or constructions completing this turn! What were they doing during Early Access if not ironing this kind of crap out?

Listen cockstain, if you can stop time and move in different directions. You do not have to be on the same position you are in the image. They can go behind into the background of the image and shoot at them which would lead the bullets to be coming towards the front of the image.

This is what i meant by moving around, the bullets are coming from different directions because the riftborn moved, you're only tracing the bullets from the current positions ignoring that theres a past to the image as well.

In another one of these images the same guy's drawn two humans with vertical crossbow guns and they're both holding the underside of their crossbow gun like it's a normal gun, but the bowstring goes behind where their hand is, making it impossible to actually shoot

So either the artist is retarded or the gun's don't actually use the bowstring (and the artist is again retarded for coming up with the shitty design that makes using the sights impossible)

seriously their artist is good at general composition and design, but when it comes to meshing with real life he doesn't know what he's doing. It's like when steampunk fags throw gears on everything even though the gears don't do shit. This guy designs crap that doesn't make sense but looks cool.

Why did EL never get a big modding scene going? Is it harder to make mods for EL than Civ? I would imagine not, as it's a Unity game but I don't know anything about the technology.

Or is it the devs and their insistence that playing with mods, even purely visual ones, should disable achievements? If you want to help change the mind of the devs, vote here

Her ingame ability is that she prevents your cities from going into negative food. Sounds like a decent ability? Think again, literally any city won't ever suffer starvation once you build up your tech & infrastructure a bit. Problem is, her ability doesn't even help you in the beginning because you have to level her up to max before you can utilise the ability... by which time it is literally useless!

Echoes of Auriga: it gives you more songs and items for your heroes with shiny effects but no special stats. Not really worth it, unless you want more music.

For one, it's resources. All those features cost money to implement and very few TBS games can afford it. Civilization could but it upholds Sid Meier's game design theory.

Now, said design theory is a well known fact. Just as too many ingredients spoil the food, too many mechanics make for shitty games.
Compare Starcraft, a well-done but barebones game that had almost no features to speak of to some of the extremely niche and hardly known RTS games made not a year later which had 3D terrain, true line of sight, bullet simulation, time of day, weather effects, deep tech trees, unit creation (make your own units from parts), build order templates, AI managed economy,... and sold like shit.

Even Endless Legend has got to that point, as per anon's at the beginning of the thread.
It's nice to get more feaetures when you've played the original game to death but having to do a depth first search on a wikipedia to just be able to name all the mechanics you need to play the game results in rather shitty and unpopular games.

Normal is pretty easy in Endless games.

It's fun enough and allows you to learn the ropes. Though you should keep in mind that Endless games are built in a way that is generally set up to provide a bunch of factions that, if played correctly, roll face with their orientation (i.e. endless exploitation and expansion for Cravers).
At that point, you just take them online or pick other factions/random (and possibly unfavorable) conditions on start.

Stellaris is like Elder Scrolls. It's a shitty game, but it allows you to pretend you're actually playing a decent game by making up shit as you go because the game does not have anything for you to do.

I agree, on the other hand stellaris does politics, government, and diplomacy MUCH better

And both games fail completely at combat

The main point of focus for future endless space 2 development/expansion should be (politics, AI, and diplomacy), hands down. Do a good system there with intelligent AI and you will have salvaged the trainwreck the game otherwise is at the moment.

After that's ironed out, I'd shift to working on the combat system.

After those two major areas are done, they should shift to story-oriented expansions full of quests and events and otherwise general fixes and quality of life improvements to make the game flow and work better.

I really hope they flesh out the political stuff more; iirc it was the last thing they were working on prior to release so that's probably why it's so bad

Vaulters, along with the help of the Concrete Endless plus that robot from DotE repair that crashed Hissho ship and make it for the stars as Auriga freezes up completely.

Vaulters we don't know about yet (even if the UE can elect Mezari family into power, confirming they were human castaways), but the Concrete Endless continues his quest to make the space an interesting place.

Stellaris' politics and government systems suck (mods help), but ES2 doesn't even hold a fucking candle; ES2 is more reminscent of the completely shitty and retarded systems used in civ, whereas Stellaris is pulling inspiration from paradox's EU games. How about you get a fucking clue instead of vomiting shit opinions?

Like I said before, Stellaris' politics and diplomacy suck, but ES2 sucks even more. You can't have ever played the games to think they're even comparable. ES2 doesn't even seem to have any kind of casus belli mechanic, the different factions behave erratically at worst and extremely simplified at best. There isn't even a gameplay system to allow for wars to be anything but "win everything/lose everything" - there is no such thing as a vassal, minor factions act like free system expansions or income rather than a force to drive political/diplomatic gameplay or fight over, and nobody in the game gives a fuck what anyone else's culture or general political system is like.

ES2 might as well be a copy-paste of civilization's diplomacy/politics. Taking one of the worst games in the genre and copying one of the worst things in it is just stupid beyond belief.

Stick to shoveling gargantuan cocks up your nostrils m8

Endless Space set up some of the mechanics that made it into Endless Legend.
Conversly, Endless Space 2 is a pretty string merger of the two games.

The battles are back to ES1 style with slightly more input on the player's part. They added minor factions and their outposts much like in EL, though you can outright integrate them into your empire instead of pacifying them for a bonus.
Quest chains are in, as are all the kinds of quests added in EL expansions like cooperative quests and such.
The tech tree is not interconnected, again more like EL than ES1, but the techs are gated in levels instead of eras. Wonders and achievements are in as well for all of these levels (again, same as EL's eras).
The interface and resources will be strongly familiar to you, albeit there is no eating up special resources to get instant happiness or building extractors.
Among additions of the game are branching quest lines, where you can choose from a number of options that give you different bonuses and even transform your empire.
You don't assign population between various productions, but you must keep an eye on the composition of your population as different folk do different things for your system.
And so on...

In general, a lot of stuff should feel really familiar to you (the game is closer to EL than to original ES), but there is also a good number of differences and improvements.

The Vaulters, who descended from those very prisoners managed to build a ship, and were the only ones who managed to escape before a magneto-gravitational cataclysm froze the whole planet, a disaster that killed everyone else, including the Allayi, the planet's original native race.
>>
>>377939914

Are you saying all the other playable species are all some form of aliens?
>>
>>377940134
>Are you saying all the other playable species are all some form of aliens?
Yes, absolutely. Auriga used to be laboratory planet for the Concrete Endless before the Virtual Endless fucked it up.
>>
>>377940134
The entire planet was used as a laboratory by the Endless. Dungeon of the Endless involves escape pods from a prison ship crash landing on Auriga and subsequently releasing all the Endless' abandoned experiments trapped underground. The various factions in Endless Legend are either descended from those experiments or others that also crashed there at some point.
>>
>>377940134
Many years later, the prison transport ship Success was traveling through Auriga's star system when it came under attack and was destroyed. A handful of prisoners escaped aboard the emergency pod LB Stephanie and crash landed on Auriga, deep within an underground Endless facility. To survive, the prisoners fought their way through the facility.

After generations, the descendants of the original prisoners had forgotten how their ancestors arrived on Auriga. They finally emerged on Auriga's recovered surface, forming eight distinct factions. As they began to populate Auriga, they soon discovered that the planet's seasons were incredibly long and harsh, leading them to realize that Auriga was dying. Over the next thousand years, the factions would fight to dominate Auriga and find a way to save themselves before the planet became uninhabitable.
>>
>>377936983
Endless Space: Terrible game; shallow, indie, basically fotm on release and immediately forgotten

Endless Legend: Indie devs actually improved on what they learned, did everything better, added new gameplay mechanics the 4x genre hasn't ever seen before. Breaking new ground and basically the best 4x game out there at the moment.

Endless Space 2: Rehash of Endless Space 1 with virtually none of the lessons learned in Endless Legends. It's like they just completely forgot about the good game they made previously and copied their piece of shit shallow trash game because reasons. Oh and it got released extra early because the devs were retards who signed up with sega and sega just sees them as disposable indie devs who'll release a game for a quick buck and then disappear.

So it's like endless space 1 got released before being finished and none of the good ideas in endless legends brought along. That's endless space 2 in a nutshell. What a colossal failure.

I enjoy playing the Morgawr far too much, the flavour is really nice and catspawing a single Minor faction army and then rampaging through an enemies territory while turning all of their villages hostile is fun. Absolute naval superiority is great too.

As Vodyani, is there any limit to how much a leeched minor faction can provide? Or can I just park an Ark to a nearby system and have it constantly produce more leechers?

Traitor's Reach was a mistake

Is there somewhere I can get a run down of the lore from the start? I've never really paid attention but now I'm pretty interested

>from the start
everything basically starts with the endless and then you take things from there

Is ship combat still a fucking card game?
>>
>>377955202
Cards matter less and you only pick one per battle.
>>
>>377951323
If you leech too much, population can die off because it decreases food, and you wont be able too leech there anymore.
>>
>>377955202
There's only one tactic card you choose at the start of battle. They also removed cards hard countering each other. Your choice of one card matters more though, because in addition to bonus for the duration of battle the card also decides your range orientation of different flotillas (basically fleets are now assigned to flanks that try to fire on opposite flanks > then remaining opponents). Weapon and defense modules also got an overhaul.

Is the combat still Rock Paper Scissors:The card game?
>>
>>377954965
they're not hard to understand and endless space is probably the easiest

the ui is ass though and makes it way more confusing than it actually is; the first endless space game had much cleaner ui than this junk.

Anyways just listen to the tutorial guy even though it's a pain in the ass to read it and then struggle through this shit like everyone else does. The thing that separates your casuals from your actual gamers are the actual gamers enjoy the learning process itself and don't just trash a game the moment it stops holding their hand
>>
>>377955202
yes

it's better than it was in the first game, but not by much

The bigger issue is the politics and diplomacy being unfinished because sega forced them to release the game while they were still working on it
>>
>>377956159
Yeah, I played the first endless space.

It's shit like shipbuilding, understanding diplomacy, knowing what to research, how to optimize output of your systems, etc.

All my matches in ES1 (and the few I've tried of ES2) are just me just picking whatever I think I need most on the tech tree while building literally every improvement to my systems.

Also, I never build ships until I have an assload of military tech, at which point I just make a fleet stacked of the most well-armed and armored ships I could possibly make.

>they do less damage than the basic titanium ones
Am I missing something, or are they supposed to be a side-grade?

You rarely have economy strong enough to arm all of your large fleets with strategic resource weapons.
>>
>>377958171
I'm talking about the strategic resource weapons. I meant I was using titanium but the adamantan weapons do less damage.
>>
About to start endless legend, any tips?

How does diplomacy work in Endless Space 1? I've tried a few games just to get used to the game, and yet I've never been able to communicate with the other player except to war with them

the base numbers on the modules are just the base, ship size and hull upgrades change the damage when you equip.
It confused me at first as well and then you equip it and the number goes much higher depending on the ship class.

Sunless Skies closed alpha next month, friend

I think that's what it was. I compared the two base numbers and it was more sensible.
