Does anyone else find pirated games are less enjoyable?

It feels like the more choice I have the less I enjoy things. Is it just me?

No? Why the fuck would I enjoy a game less because I didn't pay for it?
>>

Not just you, lots of faggots suffer from post purchase rationalization.

Pragmatism is dead.

Tiny woman is retarded, arguments can obviously be made for anti-piracy but "well if everything is free then why would people bother making things?" is fucking stupid. A group of modders is making the entirety of mainland Morrowind and they aren't getting paid a cent.
>>
>>377886454
not sure, that kinda deep and philosophical
>>

I enjoy them more, especially if theyre not so good because i didnt pay for them

Both of their arguments are really dumb.

Look, if people didn't have to make a living to eat then getting stuff for free would be totally okay. But workers need to be compensated for their time, otherwise they cannot live, because we have limited resources on this planet. We are not post-scarcity yet.
>>
>>377886242
Not pirated games, PC games. It's hard to get immersed in a videogame when you're hunched over a screen less than a metre from your face.
>>
>>377886739
Even given that, current copyright laws are fucking retarded, and 99% of what people pirate wouldn't even be piracy if the laws were sane because shit would be in the public domain already
>>
The more things you get for free or almost free, the faster you will get bored.

Find any stream with someone who just got one of those everdrive things on it with all the games for the system.

They will never play a game on that cartridge long enough to actually finish a game.

Never.

Same thing happens when you download a rompack with all the games for a system. You start a game thinking, "oh man I havent played this in years" and the first time you die in game or get a game over, you switch games and this repeats til you get bored enough to just stop playing things entirely.

The more options you have, the faster you get bored hoping a new selection in the options you have grabs your attention, only for it to not grab your attention and it becomes a cycle.
>>
>>377886843
Like what?
>>
>>377886843
This. But apparently a big publisher buying a long abandoned franchise just to sit on it makes it illegal to download. This has nothing to do with morality anymore.
>>
>>377886242
The only games I really pirate are old ones no one's turning a profit off anymore. Stuff like Age of Wonders or Planescape: Torment. I wouldn't have bought Age of Wonders III if I hadn't played the other games via piracy.

>We aren't post-scarcity
We are essentially not post-scarcity by (profit-driven) choice. Only thing we need nowadays is silicon and even now we're finding a way to replace that.
>>
>>377887061

Everyone does this when they pirate literally thousands of games in one chunk.
>>
>>377887172
But that's wrong, you fucking retard.
>>
>>377886242
If you pay money for a game it has value, you will put far more effort into trying to like it and seeing past any small issues it may have.

If you download a game for free or it's f2p, you'll quit playing if a blade of grass is the wrong way round.
>>
I've been pirating everything since mid-90s. I think nothing of it, I just get my free stuff whenever I want.
>>
>>377887363
>you will put far more effort into trying to like it and seeing past any small issues it may have.
Which really isn't a good thing. Just look at all those people desperately defending mediocre games on around here
>>
I just realized Jesus was the first to prove the Banach–Tarski paradox.
>>
>>377886242
Yes, but not because they're pirated, but the opposite: If I pirated a game, it's likely because I wasn't terribly interested with it to begin with, unlike a game that I bought and played right away.

I don't really pirate brand new stuff.
>>
>>377887363
Maybe if you're a retard. When I buy games I expect them to work pretty damn well. Barely any game does that now a days. Feels pretty great when I pirate a game only to find out it runs like shit.
>>
>>377886339
He said he don't know what to play because there are too many to pirate you idiot
>>
>>377886612
That's not how companies work though. Companies make products for the sole purpose of getting money. They may be doing it with their heart or it's something they've always wanted to make, but at the end of the day they're doing it to make money.
>>
>>377887986
Investors do it solely for money
Developers do it because they like their work and also need to make a living
Developers are helpless without Investors and have to pander to them via sale goals
>>
>>377886843
>99% of what people pirate wouldn't even be piracy if the laws were sane because shit would be in the public domain already
Ah, yes, people downloading music, movies, and games that literally just released should be able to do so legally. As, you know, that is 99% of what people are downloading.
>>
>>377886761
Yeah because sitting so close to the screen that it makes up almost all your fov is less immersive.

Nope, mostly because I stopped playing new games altogether after getting fucked over too many times by shallow lackluster titles made to cash in on the ignorant, standardless, and tasteless masses.

I don't wanna sound like a faggot hipster but I've completely left mainstream gaming behind and only really play romhacks and indie shit now. Mostly only because they cater to my tastes. It's unfortunate that I gotta wade through a sea of pretentious hipster and (nowadays) sjw shit to find good games, but at least within the indie/romhacking crowd I can find stuff I actually fucking LIKE.

Yes. It's a well-documented phenomena in consumer behavior called the paradox of choice. Generally, when a consumer is offered many things to choose between, they end up less happy with whatever they choose than if they got fewer choices. While you'd expect more choices to make it easier to find the one thing that would make you more happy, it turns out we adjust our expectations based on the choices we're given, and every time we pick one thing out of many, our pick comes with the regret of all the things we couldn't pick.

This is why growing up with limited pocket money is a blessing in disguise. I think most of us remember owning a few crappy games that we ended up enjoying anyway because it was all we had until we could afford a new game. Now that we have nearly infinite choice, we start to question whether GOTY candidates are worth our time.

Also, it's not exclusive to pirates. Just look at how people discuss their Steam libraries.

>>
OP is right.

As a kid, you went to the store and bought 1 game and spend weeks or months on it.

Now, you have almost all games available for free on your fingertips with emulators and piracy. You can also easily download shit through Steam through digital purchases.

This has killed the innocence and purity of the childhood poorfag.

The less of something you have, the more you cherish it.

Now with the internet culture and being online 24/7, people are impatient and not willing to put in much time in a game anymore. It's all about instant gratification and moving on to a new game constantly, or playing an autistic multiplayer game every day.

Basically the magic is gone.

Here's what you can do OP: Turn off the internet.
Dedicate yourself to completing 1 game at a time.

That's a serious exaggeration but a lot of scarcity of basic needs is driven more by social/political factors than some technological limitation.
We can produce enough food to feed everyone on the planet but getting it to the people who need it is another matter. Obesity is considered an epidemic in some places and food goes bad on shelves and even gets thrown out before it's bad to make way for fresh stock while elsewhere and sometimes in the same area others starve and the main driver of modern slavery is illegal fishing.

We could probably feed, house and provide basic education and medical care(besides certain limited transplants) to everyone on the planet if there was a united will to make it happen but there's too much money and power and bullshit wrapped up in the whole thing. It's not going to change anytime soon and may even get worse.
