I bought it 'cause a couple people I knew were playing it - we played it for a few months, then moved on to Rainbow Six: Siege and other games. It's alright. I can't imagine solo queuing, though- I would fucking hate the game, too.

It's not a bad game overall, but it's pretty mechanically simple and the meta mostly revolved around ults, from what I remember. Probably my biggest issue with the game is the dearth of new content - they've added, what? Two new heroes? Three maps? In a year?

Titanfall 2 got multiple new game modes, like five or six new maps, and plenty of other content in half the time.

The problem is that community-run servers do not allow the company total agency over the "experience" system, which in turn drives their loot drop system, which is carefully tuned to keep people playing while also buying loot boxes, making the company more money.

Matchmaking allows Blizzard to tie player performance to in-game loot, making sure that people are always playing the game the way Blizzard wants, regardless of how shitty the actual end user experience is.

I fell for this game.

I got sucked into the marketing in a time when TF2 was getting boring for me and my friends. We thought this game would be the refreshing breeze we needed.

At first, it was. From levels 1 - 150 we had a blast. Balanced matches, awesome POTGs, fun times by all.

Then came Ana. I shit you not, as soon as the new characters started coming out, something changed with this game. It became a drag. Matches ended 95% of the time in losses. People got angry. Some quit.

I wish I could drop down back to Level 1, I wish I could delete Ana, Sombra, and Orisa from the game. I wish I could go back to May 2016 Overwatch.

Either that or I wish I could get my $60 back.

It's not "cazualized and safe", you still have to think of the damage penalty, you just get to do it viably and more often.
That's why in Quake you'll see a player rocket jump maybe 5 times per round to reach high ground, while in TF2 they'll rocket jump 20-30 times per round.

Quake rocket jumps are in straight lines and not anywhere near as viable as TF2 rocket/sticky jumps.

I get annoyed with the almost immediate split up, endless solo run into the meat grinder but the best I can do is force my presence on any other competent team mate. Sometimes that's enough.
I'm also willing to admit that I'm always improving. If you die, there is room for improvement. It would seem to me that you could always think about the game in a different way. In that you don't have to pause 20 ft in front of the enemy & try to waggle jump your way to victory.
One person changing the outcome is outlandish but I'd argue that it's doable. Especially as Zarya, Ana, or most any good dps.

What I mean is there's not really any outlet for "advanced play" to work towards. If you're landing your heals on Ana, what else can you really do? You can't make them come out faster. You can't throw the grenade in a way that its effect gets boosted in any way. Everything you can do is so artificially limited. Once you learn the basics of your character and what they are good/not good against, timings of when to ult, when to start being fearful of enemy ults, etc its just going through the motions and hoping that your team does it better than them. You can't outplay nano visor as a solo player. You can't outplay your hard counter as a solo player because of the restricted movement speed and ability cooldowns, etc (unless your opponent fucked up big time, which again isn't something you can control).

I understand what you mean by "getting better"; we can all grind up the skill to perform a little bit better. But does it really amount to much of anything in this game? You get like an extra 1-2% chance to win? Big deal. I just feel like its not very rewarding to grind to be solo skilled in this game.
