Resident Evil 7 isn't really a scary game. Being chased around in the house while getting keys to open stuff is more of an annoyance, there's really no "fear of the unknown" element to it.

You just kinda understand what you're up against when pitted in a small place against a human/zombie with a weapon, there's no creepy mystery aspect to it.
>>
I just wish Ethan would run faster than a light jog, it makes being chased infuriating as Jack always catches up.
>>
>>377855263
It's the weakest of the main series.
>>
Any and all fear disappears once you realize that it is, in the end, just a linear corridor runner with scripted oogabooga scenes.

it's made worse by the fact that the game lacks replay value altogether, and has shitty bosses and "puzzles".

>>377855413
One of the many limitations of VR. Gotta keep movement slow and FOV narrow to avoid motion sickness.
>>
>>377856114
I think what you touched is also the cornerstone of why VR will not work for games.

It seems clear that games need to be made specifically to VR for it to work well. So supporting old games that people would think they'd work well in VR like Amnesia, STALKER and so on would not be as good as people imagine.

So it doesn't work as a peripheral but more of a platform that requires content for itself only, and having a small userbase means it's too risky to develop exclusively for VR.

RE7 feels a lot like a mixture of the Amnesia/Outlast type of stealth-horror but with Condemned's "makeshift" combat of melee + low ammo guns. The problem is that Condemned felt way more creepy given it wasn't exactly explained why all those bums are out to get you, it felt really grounded exploring streets and buildings wondering when thee next bizarre shit is gonna come at you, enemies blending with mannequins and shit was well done to create tension and the uncertainty of what you were up against.

Outlast had its issues with the dumb jumpscares QTE from those wheelchair things and the occasional guy who jumps at you when you open doors and shit, also the press button + hide in closed shit was too predictable and ruined the horror.

Amnesia had a good atmosphere because often you didn't know what was going on, where enemies were patrolling the place.

To make a scary game you need a certain amount of uncertainty, knowing too much about the environment and enemies leads to thinking you're safe, even if you have a madman chasing you in a house. Condemned had houses where enemies would attack you, but often you wouldn't stay long to make the environment familiar to you, while RE7 ends boiling down to "rush to open that door with the thing I got now: the game". Showing too much makes shit not scary and you see Jack too much and know too much how he works.

>>377855413
also not being able to jump whenever you wanted, being an automatic thing you do in designated spots sucked dick

>>
>>377859839
yes, not knowing what you're up against is the cornerstone of psychological horror, knowing too much about how enemies behave and the surroundings eventually makes shit not scary at all

Predictability ruins horror. This is why Dead Space games are awful for any horror intent, they're just too fucking predictable with the monster encounters, always coming from the same type of spots like vents, or the ones that pretend to be dead to jump at you that you can see coming from a mile away.

Outlast suffered of this too, every time you solved something and the room had a closet for you to hide in, you knew something was coming so you hid. Shit just became a routine and became boring. RE7 suffers of this, being chased around the house by one guy wasn't executed that well.

I'd not say RE7 is genuinely scary game in the horror aspect, but it certainly does a splendid job of always keeping the sense of pressure and rush on you.

That said, I can't be seriously the only one who was tense as hell in the second floor of the old house, wandering all those kid rooms in the dark was honest to God unsettling, to the point I felt relieved by the presence of the molded that spawn after you get the D arm.

AND ON THAT NOTE. What the fuck do the toy axe and shotgun do?
>>

Toy Axe can be used to get a Stabilizer out in the backyard via a hidden shadow puzzle by the entrance to Lucas' party. Toy Shotgun can be used to get the regular shotgun from the main hall.

It's not very scary.

But it's still atmospheric. It's repellent, and a little creepy. I didn't want to be in the house, near the bayou. I especially didn't want to be in the old house. The environments were grotesque and the premise was grotesque. The Bakers are an ugly, bizarre bunch, even without the infection. The house is in shambles and everything is nigger-rigged even in the flashback DLC. The lighting direction also contributed to the atmosphere significantly, it was done extremely well.

Also, random sounds play all the fucking time. If you played with headphones you know what I'm talking about. Random wood creaks, window shutters flapping, rustling, scraping, etc. behind, below, above you. All the time. There's also several instances where shit jumps in your face, which is completely unforeseeable, so the entire time I was kind of on edge. I never panicked or felt very stressed but I was definitely alert and on edge.

>>
>>377870579
Explain how having to unlock a difficulty and no bonus mode are flaws. You're really grasping at straws.
>>
>>377870985
Even RE6 had Mercs and Agent Hunt on release. There is no reason that VII shouldn't have a bonus mode.

The difficulty unlock is much less of an issue, but still present. REmake let you play on hard from the very beginning.
>>
>>377871143
>previous games had these things
Ok? Still don't see how those are flaws.
>>
>>377871379
Bonus modes offer a change of pace and sometimes offer a better overall experience than the main game (as in RE6's case, imo).

A game focused on horror, as you VII fags love to claim, should have hard mode unlocked at the start.
>>
>>377871608
To offer the maximum amount of tension, I mean.
>>
>>377871608
Madhouse would be terrible as a first playthrough. It speeds up Jack's animations making some scenes goofy and it fucks with pacing a bit, because it assumes the player's already gone through the game once.
>>
>>377871608
Oh, so you're just a RE6 fag. Bonus modes certainly didn't make it less of a shit game.

What a terrible idea. Ethan already runs like a middle-aged smoker.
>>
>>377867396
These are issues, but it doesn't make the game shit. And a few of them are close to being nitpicky.
>>
>>377872306
So they don't matter at all and thus their absence is not a flaw. Good to know!
>>
>>377872571
I'll give you the Madhouse one being "close to nitpicky, but the others are valid.
>>
When's Not A Hero?
>>
>>377872664
There is enemy variety and it doesn't feel very lacking in that department since the game is short. And while most enemies are of the same blob substance, they do have unique animations and attack styles, and they're detailed if you look at them closely.
>>
>>377872576
Never said that, you delusional cuck.

Re-read the top half of >>377871608 Along with complaints that the game has little replayability, proves that a bonus mode at launch would've done nothing but improve the game and its initial sales.
>>
People who say VII is the best game in the series have probably never played another Resi game outside of the demo for 5 and maybe Resi2 when they were a kid. then, they go on to say 'Well, REmake and 4 were the better games' to sound like they fit in, then proceed to praise VII, or just say 'The only good one was 4' because they get all their opinions from Yahtzee Crowshaw.
If you actually played every main Resi game, which means 0-VII, CVX and REmake, you wouldn't say Resi VII is the best game, or Resi 4 is the best game unless you're a nostalgiatard.
0 is arguably the worst in the mainline series, but I'd say the HD Remaster is better than VII for adding an extra mode, making the game look beautiful, being longer than 4 hours, and being only $20, usually on sale for $10-$15
1 and REmake are usually seen as the best game in the series by nostalgiatards, people who never played them or the minority of people who played them and actually enjoyed them. 1 is kinda trashy by today's standards, but it still holds up as a survival horror title, while REmake takes everything from about 4-6 games of survival horror and experimentation, and puts it all into the first game, and it turned out pretty good.
RE2 and RE3 are probably the best in both the series, RE2 for being the perfect combination of cheesy action and survival horror, and RE3 for being a nice side story to 2 that turned into a really long game that evolved the mechanics and progressed the story, and being balls to the walls hard when trying to 100% it. Also, RE2 had 3 extra modes, 1 having 4 different ways to play, and 2 different campaigns, LeonA and ClaireB.
RE CVX is a step back in terms of mechanics and looks really funny, but it's still a fun survival horror game. If I had to rank the survival horror games, it'd go 3=2>REmake>CVX>1>>>>>>VII
Also, 4 is a weakest of both worlds. It has the weakest survival horror elements combined with the weakest action elements and is just RE2 but worse

RE5 takes what RE4 had, rips it off with better gun mechanics, then does its own thing after the second chapter, and instead of burning out like I was lead to believe, I had a good time, and before you bring up boulder punching, the series had jumped the shark long before then with Umbrella dropping near-immortal gray men into cities filled with zombies.
RE6 is RE5 but better, and admittedly, every story except Chris and Piers/Jake and Sherry is weak as fuck, and I only like Jake's because it give me a DMC vibe, especially with that Ada epilogue. The gunplay is the best in the series, people found tripping to be an issue, but I only found that it ruined gameplay in the plane section of Leon's campaign, and the Mercs is at its best here, though I'd rather play 5 for the looks and the character variety on offer over there.
There's also Revelations, which are alright, albeit a bit bland, and the PS2 exclusive spinoffs are alright, would be better if I could finally play Outbreak with some online, but who gives a shit.
There's also ORC and UC, and while ORC is unbearably awful, I found an ironic enjoyment in UC, it's actually kinda fun to sit down and play it.
Then we get to VII. It dumps all the characters we've had and have been playing around with for 20 years, has very few references to the original games other than an Outbreak cocktease, a guy I didn't give a shit about from REv1 and a picture from the first game.
The gameplay in VII is responsive, but it feels clunky. I get they were going for that, but that just highlights a real issue I have with the game, which is how it got praised for being a bold move by Capcom, despite the first person horror scene being more popular than ever, and then releasing a game that looks like that other game that got cancelled and sticking a recognizable brand name on it... that's not a bold move. A real bold move would be releasing a game like REmake, with fixed cameras and tight controls, but Capcom

Also, no costumes for anybody, no extra game modes, all that shit that would've been in the base game if this was RE2 is tightly secured behind paywalls, with a third one coming, and before you say 'Not a Hero is free', that's an essential part of this new story from what we can assume, as it probably explains what Chris is doing, how Umbrella is alive and what happened to Lucas as that was a cocktease at the end of the game.
>>377873457
I said they weren't because I, despite like REmake, find 2 and 3 to be better survival horror titles. REmake is close though.
Also, 4 just isn't as good as any of the other games. Maybe it's because I avoided it till November of last year when I got it for PS4, and played it after every other game in the series. I just don't find it as enjoyable as the rest of the mainline series. That, and it offers nothing storywise, it's literally 'Leon does some shit, also Las Plagas is a thing, the end'.

Explained above

Mad because bad

Zoe didnt help you in nothing gives you a false cure and shitty tips

Mia saves you ass in the boat and since the beginning she know she fucked up and tried to warn you to abandon her and stuff

and better yet if you save Mia you actually dont see Zoe dying soo even for zoefags Mia is the best choice

top kek zoefags are hilarious

Visually, Molded are boring. We've seen generic goop monsters before. As far as their behavior, you said yourself that it's something we've seen before.

This wouldn't be such a big deal if there were more unique enemies in the game. Instead, we just have some other varieties of the same shit, insects, and bosses.

It's not 2014 anymore. Stop it.

I will say that I really liked Marguerite as a boss. Jack was meme-tier and Eveline was absolute garbage.

They really need to just abandon the entire concept of a super-virus turning people into monsters. It's just not scary. There's nothing unknown about it, and it's the unknown that is truly terrifying. There's no subtly, no mystery, nothing. It's just a bunch of people got turned into monsters by some chemicals a bunch of mad scientists created. WOOOOOOOOO

A fresh reboot with the series being taken to a super-natural turn, along with the complete gassing of side-kicks, is what this series desperately needs.

It's cool here though because now the game is first person, with new characters, a refreshing atmosphere that beats the hell out of 5's and 6's and with good graphics and superb lighting. Needless to say, in light of this new system and quality, I found the enemies far more enjoyable to fight than the enemies in 5, 6, or Revelations 1 and 2, which all felt too derivative of 4 to me.

What Resident Evil is?

A new camera perspective doesn't change those facts. Also, the graphics are ass on consoles.
>>
>>377875328

And yet you cry about inane shit like my use of old memes...face it kid choosing zoe is the obvious bad anding and your choose poorly
>>
>>377875479
The camera perspective affects atmosphere a lot.

>Also, the graphics are ass on consoles.

Stop the presses.
>>
>>377875439
The difference is that RE4 had good action at least. It's pretty obvious they want RE7 to be more about horror than any other RE game, yet it failed to be that. There's nothing else to it.
>>
>>377875395
thanks.

and thanks for show you opinions are shit anyways
>>
>>377855263
Pretty much why I didn't buy the game. Is there a little more to it than that? Yes. Was it a unique take on resident evil. Yes. But it's not much deeper than how op put it.
>>
>>377875562
>affects atmosphere
We're talking about enemies, not atmosphere.

>durr, graphics are always shit on consoles xD
Kill yourself, my man.

Why the fuck are you talking about graphics on consoles like it matters? Nigger the PC version exists. Christ.

what did they mean by this?
>>
>>377875620
More like they want RE7 being about about the ``Horror´´ of the first Three games and they did it
>>
>>377875620

I agree that RE7 still isn't scary, though I'm not the best metric for that. In any case, it feels like they at least tried to make it more of a horror game than ever before.

Ever since this fucking walking simlator fad began I always wanted a game like this. Exploring locations with a handgun while adminstering ammo and items.

This game is a joy to play.
>>
>>377868469

Why RE2 and 3 so low? But REmake is the best in the series, yep
>>
>>377875765
Way to dodge my pointing out your "moving the goalposts".

Not everyone wants to spend over $400 on a gaming machine that they'll have to maintain regularly. Not to mention having to deal with Steam. Stay mad, cuck.
>>
>>377874914
You are fucking retarded. You just said that resident evil needs to not be resident evil because I'm bored with the plot. I really can't express how retarded you are, without making up words. You're a fruggbrubble. That's pretty much fish with downs. That's what you are.

What they need to do is make a game that ties everything together and finishes the story then go back to making side stories. That way we have a legitimate ending.
>>
>people here are still talking about vii
>vendetta comes out in a few weeks
Who's seeing it in theaters here? I just need some Chris on Leon action with Beccy-chan
