I rarely buy games with so little coverage since they tend to be hit or miss, usually the latter most of the time but holy shit this game is good.

The game is quite difficult though and doesn't seem to let up. I'm 10 hours in at the moment and only just fought the first boss (Though I tend to take my time with every game I play since I look for secrets and dear lord is this game filled to the brim with secrets).

I'm surprised you even had it on your wishlist though, I try to keep my eye out for games like this and would have missed it if some guy didn't mention it a few days ago on here.

Seems like a fun game to watch someone suffer through, but it looks like LPs of it are non-existent. I'd say just from looking at it that it deserves more attention.

No it's not. It's not superior to anything.
The main character looks like a fucking bobblehead. Stabbing with weapon looks to consist of two animation stages, fucking nothing, and extended knife/other bladed object in hand pointed ahead. Sometimes there seems to be whole 1 inbetween frame, so at least there's something.
There are platforms that are just two pixel high white lines on top of each other.

And that whole pixelated, but with more modern lightning thing, looks to invoke a lot of Lone Survivor.
And while I'm not a fan of how that game looked, even it was miles better than this trash.

Literally, unironically, and 100% seriously, my personal favorite game of all time is a very unknown metroidvania called An Untitled Story.
Not a single metroidvania comes even close, and in my personal experience, not even a single other game (of any genre). Avoid spoilers and try to get to the download link without looking at pictures. I'll help: mattmakesgames.com/games/AnUntitledStory.zip The world and "story" was built so that it hit all the right notes in me, I was curious and immersed like a child. Literally masterpiece game and highly recommended, and not only to metroidvania fans.

NOTE:
Play it on masterful difficulty despite the warning at start; it's about megaman hard while all the easier difficulties make every platforming section and bosses trivial because you can just tank spikes. Oh and use fullscreen from pause menu as soon as you can

If you like a game, you're more likely to connect with people that also like that game and you're more likely to convince people to try it if you're not a total cunt at all times.

If you just want to flame people for having opinions, just go to /b/ or /pol/ or /int/ or something.

I've finished La-Mulana and i can certainly say that it's one of the most atrocious platforming and combat experiences i ever had in the entire genre. 90% of secondary weapons are garbage, there's almost no reason to use anything than axe for vast majority of the game, boss design is utterly mediocre aside from maybe a "surprise motherfucker" moment with Palenque and annoyingly strict control scheme makes traversing the levels into a massive chore that ain't even hard, just mind-numbingly dull.

It's probably one of a few metroidvanias where i've stopped looking forward new upgrades and powerups because all of them feel extremely underwhelming which seriously hurts the feeling of progression i like in games of this genre so much.

The only really good things going on for it is world design and puzzles but honestly puzzles don't belong to this genre at all, especially when they devolve to "find something on low-poly background of the area" like with half of lategame puzzles.

Except there's every point to making another one, as whether or not HK's artstyle is "awful" is purely subjective, and since La-Mulana's style is quite different from Marrow's, it would make sense to compare Marrow and HK if you want to get your actual point across.
Also, you realize that HK's style isn't entirely in the characters, right? The environments are actually very pretty and detailed.

The remake is pretty good, if you're more into the puzzle/exploration aspect then give the original a try, it takes a bit of fiddling on modern Windows but I'd say it's worth it since I prefer the original music and the puzzles are more difficult for folks who like that

Tried the game. Surpisingly platforming wasn't as shitty as I expected, but it was still nothing to write hope about, just basic passable shit.
But the game seriously hurt my eyes, everything is dark mass and it takes some squinting to see what's ahead.

Didn't really see what is so hardcore about it, other than the annoyance of not having a map, and for some reason ability to check health is limited to once per area? section? every now and then anyways.

The game's reputation for being hard mostly comes from the obtuse puzzles it throws at you, it's the kind of game where you can easily spend hours trying to figure out what you need to do to get some specific thing unless you have a guide on hand but the upswing to that is that the game is careful to ensure that there's always something else you can go do instead to advance forward in a different area if you get stuck on one thing

I got five guardians in before I had to refer to guides in bits and pieces (I'd usually give myself an hour of figuring something out between them).

Some of those puzzles are just obtuse as fuck. If the game had a better mapping/note system, sure, maybe it'd be more convenient vs. having to keep a pen & pencil handy incase that one normal stone text actually meant something 15 hours in.
